You know the EPCOT Center symbol, the one that looks like an atom or a flower with a globe in the middle? What does that stand for? I seem to remember reading somewhere a long while back that it had something to do with unity and other good stuffs. I was just wondering if anyone had a definitive answer.

Hmmmmmmmmm My guess is that each ring represents the symbols for the other pavilions....imagination, land, motion, energy..... all UNITED. So that makes sense. Just a guess :)

Hmmm...actually, there were more opening day pavilions than rings in the original EPCOT logo. There are five interlocking rings, though there were six opening-day pavilions (Spaceship Earth, Universe of Energy, World of Motion, Journey into Imagination, The Land, and Communicore). Unless, of course, the grid section in the middle of the EPCOT logo is meant to represent Spaceship Earth, whose logo incorporates that design.

Actually, Journey wasn't an opening pavilion.

Er.. Journey was. The pavilion (Imageworks & Magic Eye Theatre) opened Oct 1st. The ride itself opened the following March (blame the ride system!)

There's probably at least a weak link to the Olympic symbol (the continents linked together in peace, unity, and all that crizznap) as well.

I'll look through my vintage EPCOT stuff to see if I can find a more truth-based answer than any of my wild-#$* guesses.

Logo, Epcot
The logo symbolizes unity, fellowship and harmony around the world. The five outer rings are linked to form the shape of a flower - a celebration of life. The heart of the logo represents the Earth embraced by a star symbolizing hope - the hope that with imagination, commitment and dedication we can create a better tomorrow.

This was taken from the Facts section on this website.

The original pavillions were SE, Communicore, UOE, World of Motion, The Land, and Imagination.
