Epcot at capacity on NYE?

Did Epcot reach any sort of capacity on NYE?

Anyone know..?

A few websites say that guests at MGM were being told that Epcot was at capacity by managers.

I know that when I was hanging out around the front gates, the "in" flow of guests past SSE on both sides sorta suddenly stopped at one point (and there wasn't anyone really outside the gates).

I'm assuming the parking lot was full? That's about when the monorail was blocked by Guest Relations too (for MK resort guests only).

So did the parking lot fill up and stop the flow? Or did the park start phasing? Or was it both at different times? Or did no such thing happen?

The parking lot was completely full. When I got there around 4pm they were actually double parking guests in the imagine lot, meaning that they were filling empty parking spaces as guests that were there in the morning were leaving. It was quite a sight. They ultimately just said screw it and closed the lot off shortly thereafter.

As far as the park itself, all of the managers I talked to while I was camping out for the NYE Illuminations said that the park never actually physically hit capacity that they knew of. However, according to them, it was BY FAR the most attended of the parks that day, so Epcot still has bragging rights. :)

Do you know the names of all the Epcot lots? (bottom three, and top 4)? Other than NYE, it seems they rarely use the lots on the 'right-hand' side (the second tram loop) so it's good to hear they actually filled them all (and even were parking on the grass!).

Wonder is the farthest lot, it doesn't extend as far south as the other lots - so it doesn't go up to front entrance really. It's extra long though.

Imagine is the first lot to be parked every morning, it's sort of near the kennels. Behind Imagine is Explore.

Amaze, Create, Discover, and Journey as the other main 4 lots that are commonly used.

The parking lot was definitely not full when GR was blocking the monorail entrance. We pulled up at noon and they were parking everyone in Wonder/Journey/Discover (sorry if I got the lot placements wrong, I'm going by basas's map).....Amaze/Create/Imagine/Explore were completely empty (except for the handicap parking). We were in Wonder and they actually had us park along the tram line (which was nice because we didn't have to go searching for the car when we got back to it at 12:30am  ). When we got to the ticket counter about 15 minutes later GR was already there blocking the monorail entrance.

So is that right in terms of names/order filled?

Imagine is where you put Discover. It's by the kennel. They don't use the tram. It parks for people arriving early for things like tours and Princess Breakfasts. They can use the walking path. See the little path?

That's right next to Amaze. Directly behind it should be Explore. They repaved Explore last month in preperation for the crowds coming for Christmas and such.

I'm not exactly sure of the locations of Create, Discover, and Journey, but they fill up the final 3 spaces in the main 4 lots. Those which are on the main tram route along with Amaze (correct in spot 2).

Oh.. and about parking order.

99% of the time they just park Imagine first then start parking the main 4 lots and do everything in their power to avoid having to go outside of those lots.

Anything outside of those lots means they have to run the tram to the second corridor and they hate doing that.

Imagine does not get filled, it just runs until a certain time period and then they switch over. On rare occasions it will be used to its full extent if needed, but thats jsut because they expect high crowds.

On extremely busy days like NYE (or back when Epcot first opened) Wonders is actually parked first. (this prevented traffic from having to cross the incoming line of cars) then Imagine and Explore then Amaze's column and then the final section.

Ah..ok...so the map is probably completely wrong. LOL. Oh well...the point is, it's a huge lot!

To answer your original question mousermerf, Epcot did go to Phase 3 briefly during the day, about an hour. The park holds about to 80,000 guests at capacity. MGM reached Phase 2, MK as we all no Phase 1, and DAK actually reached Phase 2 for a while as well.

I was in epcot on 12/31 the park never reached capacity although it was the most crowded I've ever seen it I've been there about 50 times just never over christmas or easter weeks. At 11 am test track was distributing fast pass returns for 12-1 am by 11:30 am they were gone for the day and soarin was almost the same schedule both had waits in excess of 240 minutes. It was definitely an experience ONE I'LL NEVER DO AGAIN.
