I guess Disney can play it off both ways the for New York street.
They can say its supposed to be a movie set thus showing the back of the building with the steel bars or also play it off that they are going for the "realism" of an actual street in NYC due to the fact that there are alot of demolished and old buildings with nothing but the steel beams left

Oh, I see what you mean. That's terrible! I know they rehabbing it, but that's just bad show.

god forbid they rehab something........I wish they would just let everything fade away....you know....to prevent the bad show of a rehab

The former Earth Station has been that way for years....ever since AT&T dropped the sponsorship
Thats sad - I hope they find a sponsor or do something positive with SSE - and do not let it decline into nothing

The streets of America are if rough shape. With the Osborne Lights going up so early (starting late July) now you have all of the steel light supporting structures all around. Also you have constuction walls in a few locations. I would hope that the New York Cityscape is that way just for the lights preperation and installation.

As already stated it is like that so the buildings can be rehabbed and repainted. The same thing happened to the Empire State Building a few months ago. Trust me rehabs are a good thing.

Yeah, I was there the last week of August and that part of the cityscape was down already then. I do appreciate the rehabs and they have to be done.

Very true.

Problem around here is some complain about the rehabs and then complain because of some chipped paint. Some complain there's not a gift shop and then complain there are gift shops everywhere. It's quite ludicrous, don't you think?

Does Disney sell Spaceship Earth t-shirts?

I looked in EPCOT for one, but didn't see it. I have lots of Disney T-shirts, and now I am trying to get them for my favorite rides. Alas, you can't find them for any of the older rides in EPCOT.

I would really like a T Shirt with the original logo for Spaceship Earth.

It really is time for SSE to get a major rehab. It's so depressing exiting epcot's "main" attraction and seeing the entire post show area dead. I love this ride but it needs to feel alive again like the newer pavillions. Get a sponser, new omnimover, new AA's, new effects, and total redo of the future. O did I mention a new sound system but make sure they keep the original soundtrack.

Pumbas Nakasak

Heading for the great escape.
Surely its expert themeing from Disney what you now see is a sky scrappper under construction.

As for SSE, all that empty space and a pin "tent" a hundred yards away, some outside the box thinking required.

It could be a new land "The Underworld"

I don't agree that it needs a major overhaul. The ride, all the way up to the 1950s era, teaches timeless historical facts about communication in the history of man. What the ride is missing is an overview of the PC/Internet era (70s, 80s, 90s) and a compelling story at the end. Otherwise, though, the ride accomplishes what it needs to.

But, yes, the post show obviously needs MAJOR work, and it really is depressing to see nothing in there.

If it doesn't get a major refurb, then it will continue to degrade over time. By refurb, I simply mean it needs a small world style refurb, new sound, lighting, audio, etc. In doing so, they can also alter the ending and update that sequence. They would have to wait until the spring to do this, because the holiday season needs the capacity of SE.

I am continually surprised, though, to see how well the AA and such has held up on this ride. But I wouldn't be opposed to this kind of rehad if it was the only option to gutting the ride completely.

So long as Rome still burns, of course. :)

I found a great Spaceship Earth t-shirt in 2000 for the "millenium" celebration, but didn't see one in 2002 when I was there. That's a shame. Considering it is the focal point of the Park, and the other Parks have t-shirts with pictures of their focal points (ie. Cinderella's Castle, Tree of Life...though I can't say I've seen one of The Great Movie Ride), you'd think there would always be at least one design.
Heck, I'd love a Spaceship Earth shop (I live for buying merchandise with that wonderful orb on it!)...but absolutely no walkie talkies. They are irritating (okay, their users are) as no one seems to know how to NOT talk on them during an attraction and/or turn them off. I'm actually all for banning them at the Parks, or like smokers, give them special "walkie talkie zones."
