EPCOT 9/3 - A tale of inebriants

Pumbas Nakasak

Heading for the great escape.
I was in epcot last week and was amazed at the amount of drinking going on by adults. It seemed like every country in the world showcase had some type of counter to purchase beers and shots. Is it really necessary?I don't get walking around in the middle of the day in a theme park with your kids and a beer bottle or wine glass in your hand.I like to drink,it just doesnt seem appropriate to be doing it this way.just my opinion.

No it isnt, but then neither are theme parks.

Of course, nothing says that each of them bought every drink--maybe they took turns (or just waited until one of them couldn't make it to the counter, which would explain the bench).

Agreed that Disney officials should have stepped in sooner though--those people were a danger to themselves (you know, that whole dehydration thing) and others, if they were already that beligerant. Hope you didn't let it overshadow the rest of your trip!

Friday night - First Pineappple Float - yummy:slurp:

Saturday afternoon - As I entered the LaL graveyard, they came up behind be again. My personal parinoia kicked in and I was certain that this was all an elaborate plot to rob me (yea, I know I'm a freak:o ). I doubled back behind a headstone and got in behind them. They headed for the tram and I headed on foot to Amaze - walking rapidily and looking over my shoulder.

First off, congrats on getting a Dole Whip Float....you've now taken a step into a bigger and better world.

Secondly, don't ever forget that just because your paranoid doesn't mean that they're not after you.....;)

my 2 cents....

Being a police officer, I deal with drunks ALL the time. From the inmature college kid, to the gal who smells like wine so bad its in her skin, I'm a little desensitized to just a little profanity, no matter how loud its yelled.

Was it wrong? Sure, especially if there was children around.

If it happened to me, would I snitch? No, I have better things to worry about than a couple of harmless drunks.

Just my perspective, but I've seen much worse.

Its a sad fact that some people just can't hold their ale - its even sadder when they have to share that inability with all around them.

Well said.

To the OP, you did the right thing. Don't doubt that even for a second. Think of the innocent children who hear that, then go home and when asked what they saw at WDW they reply "Some bad a** m*****-f*****s were there!" Not the type of memory you want your kids to have. :ROFLOL:

Drunks are a part of WDW, it seems. My brother-in-law and his family got jammed onto a really packed bus at DTD with a bunch of beligerent drunks. In all the crowding, the bus driver asked that all children be seated so he and his wife were trying to shift so their 2 kids were sitting and some nearby children had a seat. The b-i-l slightly bumped into one of them who turned around and started swearing loudly at him. The b-i-l very calmly stated that all that wasn't necessary, apologized, and let the guy know that his behavior was a bit out of line with all the children present. Then the guy proceeds to get on his cell phone and aparently call a group of friends at the hotel saying very loudly "Yeah, you guys need to meet me at the bus stop. We have a problem that's going to get dealt with when I get off this bus" insinuating that he's going to start a fist fight. My niece and nephew are freaking out and crying. The b-i-l did the right thing in getting off the bus at a resort different than where they were staying and avoiding further confrontation because his children were present. All this transpired at the front of the bus where the bus driver couldn't have possibly missed any of it yet did nothing. I felt bad for them. I wish my b-i-l had had the presence of mind to get the bus drivers name. That could've been a really ugly situation getting much worse really fast. You know?

Or, coulda been a situation like I was in about a year ago when we were out on the town with friends and the hubby had had enough so I started getting him to give me sips of his drink so he wouldn't drink it. I was sippin and sneaking little pours onto the sidewalk where he couldn't see trying to empty his cup of really really strong Crown & Coke before he could drink it. Well, I ended up more than a little tipsy but at least I still halfway had my wits about me and could function. LOL!

I just returned from a short trip, and this thread has me wanting to share something, too.

I was standing outside Casey's in the Magic Kingdom, when two families behind me bumped into each other. They were all Hey! How ya doin, etc., and everything was fine (I thought it kinda cool to be able to bump into friends from back home), and then one father asked the other, "How's it going?"

"Ah, same old s***", the other loudly announced.

Several other guests immediately shot disapproving glances at the language.

I ain't no prude, but there's a time and a place for everything. Just wish people would remember to use a little more decorum in public places.

Same old excretia dosent have the same ring.

lol it sure doesn't...I might be alone here, but that particular statement wouldnt offend me. I think there's a difference between shouting obsenities and casual swearing, but I guess "where do you draw the line?"

"Foul" language is a weird subject because it doesn't really mean anything when you think about it, they are just words someone made up. In the context of the "same old ****" statement, I don't see the harm. It's not the same as shouting obsenities while attacking someone verbally. In that case it's not so much the obsenities but the intent behind them that is offensive. On the other hand, people are entitiled to a sense of "decency" in public places and certainly it should be expected to a certain degree at a Disney park, so it's a tough argument I suppose.

Just my 2 cents :animwink:

I guess you and I are the only ones who share the unpopular opinion. I guess I just could not be bothered finding a CM to tattle because someone got drunk and did some swearing. Not that I would have been thrilled to be around people like this, I just would have gone in another direction to avoid them or spent a little more time in the shops so that they would have been long gone by the time I left. If these people had become violent towards me or something then I most likely would have gone for assistance.

Given rap lyrics who actually is going to be shocked?

I prefer the term "industrial language", besides nothing wrong with a few old Anglo Saxon terms:animwink:
