I am waiting to see what the "SIEMENS bringing ingenuity to future of SpaceShip Earth" sign i nthe old Earth Station ends up leading to.

Everytime I go in there, I say to myself "When are they finally going to take down the network tree?" It's still there and plainly visible from the doors leading toward Art of Disney.

This may sound a little silly, or just like wishful thinking...

But mousesurplus.com is selling a series of WDW 2000 signs.

Typically, they get stuff when Disney "moves on" from a particular project, for example they have old Contemporary room decor as it's being redone. With older items, it seems to correlate to when Disney begin taking steps to a new project meaning the old stuff really is useless to them - i think these signs would be a case-in-point.

If they're ditching stuff from Epcot's last celebration, the 2000 Millenium celebration, then perhaps they're starting work in the 25th anniversary?

If I recall correctly, Disney Auctions was selling those sign as early as late 2002/early 2003. The bidding started at $100. I seem to remember some signs, especially the MK ones with the 2000 logo going for over $500. I did bid on some of the EPCOT ones, but alas, I was outbid.

The stuff I have not seen yet, is any of the 100YOM signs or banners up for sale.

Hopefully it`s the beginning of a second phase / this decades re-invention. WoL must be on the list after TLS, but surely after that it`s Energy and hopefully Imagination.

I agree, Marni. Epcot is NOT finished yet, but the final leg is coming up. HCOE was announced when WDW was in a time of attendance lag. It needed the influx of people, and attractions do a great job of that. Right now, the parks are all back up, especially Epcot. However, as with any event, it starts to lag off. This will likely start to just show toward the end of 2007 with 2008 being the time when numbers may subside (of course, this may not happen drastically, but there will be some reduction just by statistics). Therefore, why not take an incredibly important date historically to WDW - its second gate and the first second gate/non-MK park in the world, and use it as an announcement date. Will we get a year/year-and-a-half celebration for Epcot, very doubtful. But, to say Epcot's 25th will not mark a fairly major event for WDW just doesn't carry as much water to me. Just because nothing has started yet doesn't mean nothing is in the works. What a great way to take those that come after the end of the HCOE in Oct. 2007, celebrate the anniversary for the park, and "oh, by the way, look at what we are giving ourselves for our birthday!" Come back next year/year after and see it completed. Drum up interest off the coat tails of your last campaign, and ride the buzz right into when the slump may happen. It just makes marketing sense, IMHO.

If I recall correctly, there wasn't a darn thing for Epcot's 20th anniversary (and the 15th coincided with the World's 25th).

I think the individual parks' anniversaries are less marketable and worthy of celebration to Disney execs.

Just a thought because that argument pops up. This is also the first time any non resort-starting park has had a 25th. Only DL and WDW's MK are older, and they both opened the resort as a whole. Epcot was the first venture into a non-MK park, so its silver may be different. Granted, history has shown no major celebrations for individual parks, but that may not apply.

No. They did release a 20th Anniversary pin.

I know because I have one.

But the problem there was that the 20th anniversary fell during the 100 years of magic celebration.

The 20th of WDW was a bigger celebration than the 25th.

Really. I don't remember that. The only thing I have from the 20th is a T-shirt. I just figured with as big as the 25th seemed that it must have been bigger than the 20th.

HISTA -> Meet the Robinsons - No Facts here, not even a rumor

The other day someone posted a link to the Meet the Robinsons Trailer at http://disney.go.com/disneypictures/index.html. The story is about a kid that invents something(Time machine?). The villian is taking credit for the invention in front of a long conference room table, at the other end of the table is a huge sign with a lightbulb in a red circle. It reminds me of the Inventor of the Year signage from HISTA. There are also other refernces to Disney parks, such as Todayland, complete with space mountain. This would be a great tie in to Disneylands HISTA and I don't see any reason why it couldn't be a new film or attraction somewhere within the Imagination Pavilion.

The 25th had nothing new for the most part...a castle cake, a new Illuminations (which was changed very quickly), the west side of Downtown Disney, and the Wide World of Sports.

Test Track was due open, but delayed until 1999.

Regardless, the MK had OVER 17 million visitors that year....an all-time high.

The parks needed nothing new...the economy was in full swing, and the parks had been majorly expanded from 1991-1995....so it was a "sit back and take advantage of what we did the last few years" celebration. The Remeber The Magic theme was a tagline to tug on peoples heartstrings and get them to the MK...people got pins with the year of their first visit....

The 20th, on the otherhand, was during the early 90's recession, and the "Surpise Celebration" focused on 20 new attractions at WDW. It was before the "Disney Decade" but took advantage of the phase 2 (capacity improvements) at MGM

You may remember the commercials.....they went something like this

1.....2.....3..4..567891011-12!.....13.....141516171819....20!!

They were both pretty big celebrations from what I remember as a kid and from what I've seen on videos.

I expect some mention of Epcot's 25. I don't think anyone is saying that it has to be a big celebration with nationwide publicity. Just some mentions of it at the resort. It would be surprising if that doesn't happen.

Well I would say it will be a little more than that

Epcot is a much bigger deal than MGM in the minds of most people. And the 25th anniversery is a much bigger deal than a 15th.

Just some signage and some mentions on maps and resort TV and stuff along those lines. Of course, I could be wrong.

yeah, wow. That wasn't even close to the right application of that word (have hence changed it for you, peter11435). Sorry. My brain is on empty. Guess that's what you get when you try to write on here after outlining all day for Constitutional Law! :hammer:
