Enlightenment Please: What is a Lifestyler?

The "fan" community doesn't like him because he tends (tends...well, DOES) focus only on the positives, and never the negatives. He's about as informative as the Disney Resort TV Channel. I won't get more into that, as it could get really complex, quickly...

Aye. Lou was the one swinging Olaf-shaped pom-poms when it was announced Maelstrom was going to be closing. He then completely dismissed any questions of theming and proceeded to lecture us about how Disney wasn't supposed to be a "museum", despite the fact that's EXACTLY what World Showcase is bloody hell supposed to be.

Don't get me wrong...I'm far from a "Fan"...

Yea, I'm good. I got a good 300 instagram follows, I don't need more. I don't do video. No one wants to see my ugly face.
And Disney wouldn't get on board with an angry guy who swears too much, drinks too much, and fights too much.

Good the kids these days are making a living, too bad it seems to be a here today, gone tomorrow field.

Ever heard of WDWKingdomcast? You sound just like what we are looking for.

They call their fans "non pixie snorting fans"... That's not really me. I quite enjoy a little bit of the fluff disney gives us. But, I am pretty uncensored and don't mind putting my thoughts out on the general public. After reading the bio of wdw kingdomcast, they seem a bit more keyboard commando than me...but far comparison otherwise!

Who's being scammed though?

I don't see it as a scam, per se (at least, not when the bloggers/lifestylers are up-front about the freebies they were given), but I also don't see much of what they write or publicize as valuable information. It's in their best interest to make every visit and every Disney amenity sound perfect and to downplay any negative aspects of their visits, so that Disney will keep giving them things. Their perspective and expectations will never be balanced or unbiased, nor will they be in line with those of "real people" like you or I, who pay for Disney trips with their own hard-earned money. Essentially, these people are paid advertising agents for Disney, masquerading as humble, ordinary bloggers, and passing off shrill, pro-Disney spin as their own opinion.

I find one of the dead giveaways that someone is such a "lifestyler" is that they tend to characterize every single cost-extra Disney offering, from tours to VIP guides to Memorymaker to the Wishes Dessert Party to refillable mugs to Pirate's League, as "absolute must-dos." Harmless enough if the reader is informed and sees the advertising for what it is, but for a novice planning their first trip, it has the potential to be very misleading.

Technically, no one, I suppose. But I think of it as a scam when they post nothing but positive statements about everything Disney is doing and in return they get all sorts of free things. It's so stupidly simple that I wish I could lie to myself each day and sleep soundly at night if I were to do the same.

Lifestylers are people you complain about when you hang out on Disney message boards all day long.

Lol, guilty! I work from home and have the computer up so it breaks up the monotony of the day.

I'm just complaining about the type of Lifestyler that has an overinflated ego, travels with posse's and has an entitlement complex all because of their follower counts based on meaningless selfie posts via IG and the like - not those who turned their love of Disney into a meaningful career by providing valued information, goods or services.

1. "Consumers" of their published content. People know that the Disney Parks Blog and other official Disney media are going to be absolutely pro-Disney so they seek the opinions of third parties. These "independent" bloggers and such write reviews with the veneer of objectivity and impartiality when, in reality, they're just as likely to spin the "company line" as the official outlets are.

2. The Walt Disney Company. It's essentially a form of extortion. "Disney, you better keep me happy because I have 250,000 Instagram followers and I can influence them like the sheep they are. What does it take to keep me happy? Meal coupons and free admission to MNSSHP would be a nice start."

See above. There's a difference between a career and extortion. Kingdom Konsultants, the administrators of this site, the folks behind The Unofficial Guide and others have used their love of Disney to make money. Threatening Disney with bad press if you don't get what you want doesn't feel quite as legitimate to me.

I never knew they were there to complain about until now. Looking back on ig, it's obvious I'm following a couple. I also didn't know the "other side" of some lifestylers, being mean and acting "entitled". if it helps them sleep at night, whatever. I'm just kinda blown away some people seem to make it their driving force in life, but, then, love is a powerful and dangerous drug. And I think we all Love disney. I just think how we feel disney should reciprocate that love back to each of us is different...I guess.
I've never received any thing free except a popcorn box. I was overly excited. Dropped my wallet, dropped my money...I think the young girl was just trying to get rid of me and said, "oh, the popcorn is on me"...I felt like i had won the lotto...

Imagine that. People on WDWMagic complaining about and hating on people who go to the parks and post their positive views and opinions on something that they genuinely love. How dare they not hate every announcement or decision made?

And Disney supposedly giving them free stuff? How dare they accept....free stuff....from Disney? I mean, I'm sure that most of us would simply say "no thank you, I'd rather pay for that". Right? RIGHT?

And yet all of those positive views and opinions could be based on the freebies, instead of being objective and unbiased....

If you really enjoy the brand and the experience and you are meaningfully connecting it to your life (such as professionally, career track-wise like running a site like this, a travel agent or working for the company), then all the more power to you! That is following your passion/dream - few people get to live their passion.

Now... If you're spending Mommy & Daddy's $ "living" in the parks when you should be working or in college and instead living in their basement blogging to get "free stuff," by posting drivel - such as (examples I've seen floating around WDW FB groups and IG):

- Endless selfies around WDW. :banghead:

- Your 1,000th stalker-qualifying visit to (insert WDW character-hottie here). Seriously, you must be creeping out "the friends" by now. o_O

- Your 1-millionth "kooky n quirky" pose of the Trolley cast (I followed an IG WDW photog account recently because I wanted to see the Dapper Day fashions - those Trolley pics ate up my IG newsfeed!).

- The "hidden Mickey-poo" that someone left in the toilet in the new NFL bathroom. Ewww. :grumpy:

That's not providing a service to anyone and it's sad that you want to be a celebrity because of it.
The numbers just are not there for it to be a profitable enterprise for all but a few. It's more the people who change careers, take less pay and move to Orlando solely to be near Walt Disney World. It's the fan "dream" that the lifestyle blogs tend to encourage but is not really a wise choice. Like actual other addictions, Walt Disney World is being used as a high, an "escape," that will burn out.

Sure....they absolutely could be. Or they absolutely could not be. Who knows? I have a better one. Who cares? I can tell you right now that I am absolutely as far removed from the "getting something free from Disney" spectrum of fandom as there is. I pay for every last thing. However, I also have an almost completely positive view on the company, the parks, and what have you. Anything I post about Disney is almost always very positive. I'm sure that many more like me do exist, who simply like things because.....they like things.

Then you sound like a stand-up fellow, but, sadly, not everyone is. People being pro-Disney on social media seems perfectly reasonable to me. The problems arise from being pro-Disney on social media coupled with the exploitation of your* status on social media to manipulate Disney into treating you in a way outside of the scope of the experience that can or should be reasonably experienced by the average guest.

*That's a general "your," not you, @WV_Jayola, specifically.
