If they do change/remove/replace any of the AAs at the Haunted Mansion, it should be the Bride in the attic. Change her back to the way she was: Face not visible, just her eyes. Now that always scared the crap outta me.

Can we please get rid of the pop up zombies in the grave yard scene? Those things just scream carnival haunted house.

I think this has huge potential if it is done as an UPDATE. The story (or ingenious lack thereof in Mansion's case) is great. I remember as a kid thinking that things were different each time I rode it, that they had changed little things and made them better (or just different). I think to do that subtly while still maintaining the full effect and appearance of the attraction would be very successful. I will be interested to see how IASW turns out. If it's good, I think there is hope. Actually, everything they are supposedly doing at IASW sounds perfect for Mansion (except of course the facade rebuild). Completely update and improve the sound system; repaint everything; replace outdated AA technology (like the bride, pop-up ghosts, etc.); and tweak little details like the portraits or door details on the corridor of doors, etc. If they want to do major work, it needs to be done on scenes that are not considered classic or integral. The hallway with the Spiders, beginning of the attic, parts of the graveyard could be completely redone with a new version of the theme and people would respond favorably (I think anyway).

I don't know if a new theme is necessarily a positive. I understand that IASW is getting the "original" or a facimile of the original, but to overhaul "Grim, Grinning Ghosts"....no thank you. The version that pops directly in my head is sung by Barenaked Ladies....totally frightening!

I am interested in the "rehab" of the classics. Yes, there are some portions that need never be changed, but an update on AAs are fine. Don't they already do that with the Auctioneer in PotC? And wasn't PotC suppose to get a rehab as well - complete with a larger ship battle (and no tie-in to the movie)?

Aww those are my fave. part of the ride! It's always fun when they pop out when you're not expecting it! They always give us a great laugh...

I'm all for putting new technoology into the rides! :) The Haunted Mansion here really needs it, it's starting to show its age.

But if they really wanna make me happy, they can take out the "please exit the car by stepping out to your left" message that comes on at unload... it isn't even a themed voice, it just kills the mood!

I'm with ya there. The ride is in my top 2, but those things are so cheesy. You can hear the mechanism that makes them pop up whirring or hissing or what have you as you go by. Always pulls me out a little bit.

This has been in the planning stages for years and actually begun this year with a Small World at WDW. When I worked at WDW 2 years ago I had the opportunity to talk to Al Weiss the president of WDW. He spoke about the plan of updating the classic atractions with new technology. Some attractions would be getting far more of an update then others depending on there condition and how much of an improvement they can make. He said they have been wanting to do this for years but it took them a while to decide how to update the rides without people freaking out. From what he said , although this was 2 years ago and could have changed order by now, Small World was first, then Pirates, then Haunted Mansion, and then the Jungle Cruise. Each ride was given a one year time line, however each ride might not actually take a year to complete. Disney knows changing classic rides is a very touchy subject to a lot of people, but they feel these rides have gone way to long without major updates. So look for a lot of changes in the years to come.

This sounds like the original Disneyland plans for the 50th, where they were going to give huge updates to these five classic attractions. Or at least, that's how I remember them.

As for HM, the only thing I would like to see is more effects (and updated effects overall). The meat of the attraction is just fine, so just enhance it with some new and improved effects, new and improved AAs, and a few background touch-ups. There's just no reason to change this classic attraction too much.

On a side note he also said that this is a very big reason why many new rides such as Tower of Terror and Mission Space will be frequently updated every few years. They feel if they are continuosly changed they will not run into the same problems years down the road and have protesters in front of Tower of terror protesting an update 30 years from now when it reaches classic status.

I agree changing rides might screw some stuff up. But in the motto of HORIZINS "If we can dream it, We can build it"Read the new HM book to see some ideas.

I'd like for the Haunted Mansion to be enhanced, but not redone. I'd love for the mechanisms to be redone so you don't hear them, like with the pop-up ghosts.

There are two things i really want to see though. The first would be the replacement of the new bride with the old bride. I don't really like the new bride, it just doesn't feel right, i like the old bride where you couldn't see her face and you could see her red heart beating under her bride's dress. The second would be the return on the hatbox ghost. He looked awesome and i'm sure with the current technology that it could be pulled off.

anything else i think would be good would be just refurbishing the whole ride, make it look brand spankin new. Anywho, thats just my opinon. heh

Oh yea, and no eddie murphy! suggesting that as a joke would even be too far, as far as i am considered, he is the one who ruined the Haunted Mansion movie.
