Trip Report englanddg's Getting a bit Enthusiastic Escapade...

So glad you got to do the Behind the Seeds tour. It's my favorite, and I've been on it at least 5 times, in the past 7 years or so. It's reasonably priced, reasonably timed (doesn't take up a half a day--only about an hour), and you learn so much behind the scenes. It's always a highlight for me.

I have thoroughly enjoyed your report. So glad to see you both have such a good time, especially while waiting for my trip to begin. Just a few hours now! I really do need to go to Universal after 20 years of Disney trips. It does look very fun. I better wait until my son comes with us again though or he might not speak to me for awhile, since he always wanted to go for a day. :-/ Love the Behind the Seeds pics and info.

You can see how enthralled the kiddo was by the tour. She left me!!!

We ended up at the bananas. And, learned something.

The top part is the female. Those make bananas. The center part is hermaphroditic, and merely flowers. And the botttom part is male, and is often used for banana flavoring.

Then we saw a large squash.

And this nearly 20 year old date palm (which, we have all seen!)

The cacao tree (which is pronounced cocoa, we were told)

We also saw this tree, which appearantly only grows leaves two months out of the year...so as we saw leaves on it, I felt it important to share what they look like!

Tour done, we checked Test Track. Still an hour+ wait, and booked solid on FP. I asked if she wanted to do Figgy again, but she said no...because she was ready to move onto the second half of the day!

So, We said goodbye to Epcot!

French Fries.

She has been thinking about these French fries ever since we picked them up on Sunday. This time she got the salad (which actually did have tomatoes and cucumber chunks in it this time, so yeah, a salad) and the Siracha ketchup on the side.

I was quite fine with this plan because I wanted to walk over the Harambe from there and grab a seat and try the curry sausages!

But...no dice!

Closed? On a Saturday!? How strange.

Well, she munched on her fries, contentedly, whilst I walked Africa looking for food. I wanted something with grilled meat, but all I could find was some sandwich shop.

Nooooo!!!

I did, however, find this nice singing group. They were fun to watch.

Kiddo, the line for Pandora is still 90+ minutes...can we go try that restaurant I wanted to try?

“Sure!”

Tiffins!

I had eyeballed this Sunday, and I am a bit of a foodie...so, having one really nice meal is something I appreciate. We normally satiate my “fine dine” with Jikos, which we both enjoy. But this place is new?

I thought very hard about the sustainable fish (looked like bass? The neighboring table got it), and the steak, and the shrimp and grits.

But, I love a good fresh ramen. So, Pork Ramen it was!

The kiddo ordered the Falafal and the mixed bread appetizer, and we decided to share everything.

52849A80-930E-412D-BB73-EF8AC4212698.jpeg

Nice chopsticks! They remind me of the bone ones I have at home!

98ECAB02-2018-4BD0-B08F-61A6F17E63CC.jpeg

The Ramen was excellent, most of the veg, great. The broth was...a bit bland. And, the baby bok choi looks great halved and wilted like that, but really needed to be cut up more (which I did). I love Bok Choi, but you shouldn’t have to bite into it like an apple. ;)

But the pork.

Oh my was the pork amazing. I wish they had given us twice the amount. The kid had some of the ramen and veg, but MOST of the pork.

We joked that if we ever came back and this was still on the menu, we would just as for an order of pork with a side of pork!

2A981EF5-3276-44E8-B123-B9D24CD0683E.jpeg

The bread sampler was interesting. Worth a try, but nothing was really spectacular. The Na’an bread and babaganoush was my favorite, and the kid liked the Foccacia, plain.

Then the Falafal. Prior to Sunday, the kid didn’t know what that was, but she tried some of mine that day and decided she wanted to try it again.

And, it was great...except, they put the sauce under it. So, we didn’t see the sauce until we had well and truly dig into the dish!

It would have been better with the sauce for dipping...

Time for dessert!

6E0C57E1-A0DD-465D-8E27-D100DCE83E73.jpeg

We decided on the trio.

And, I got some Press Pot coffee.

F0CC5147-8429-48B5-B068-96A052AFF2BC.jpeg

The coffee was amazing. I really want to know what blend they used!

DE5EC777-5D88-4B6A-B6E7-794C56F70442.jpeg

The dessert had three parts. A Ganesh. Neither the kid or I liked this very much. It was too dense. It tasted almost like eating raw baking chocolate, frankly. The frothy cream helped a lot, as did the raspberry sauce. But, the proportions were just a bit off for my taste, and the kid agreed.

The second part was a Passion Fruit Tapioca.

8ACD24AA-66EB-473D-8D41-7225F1F712B7.jpeg

This...was like a big bowl of marmalade.

It was tasty, I suppose, but missed texture. If you really want to experience this for yourself, just get some decent quality marmalade, stir it briskly until soft, and then top with whipped cream.

They obviously tried to do a bit more with it, as it had some spherification. But...still...it was marmalade, basically.

In the small serving it was ok, but I can’t imagine anything larger than what we had. Or eating it all myself had the kiddo not taken a bit more than half.

But, the last item, the whipped cheesecake, was amazing! Too bad I didn’t get very much of it, because the kiddo took the lions share!

FA765966-197C-4B47-BDC8-C6DA8FB557C9.jpeg

This one is pretty easy to make, too. So, I may play around with a copycat when I get home.

Fully sated, our Waitress presented us with a “drawing by Joe Rhode, the Imagineers who desi...”

And embarrassingly, my kid cut her off to whisper to me...

“Isn’t he the guy with the funny earring?”

Yes, we know who Joe is. Thank you!

And, before you blame me as a Parks fan, poisoning the well, Disney did this to themselves by having him on a video on the ME, so i has to explain him and his earring to the kiddo earlier in the week as a result!

And then it dawned on me, as I looked that artwork, that those beautiful paintings and observational sketchbooks in the entrance...

They were the work of Joe!

Wow.

Even if you don’t eat here, you should stop by and look at the artwork.

Just, wow.

Well, after that, a quick trek across the bridge to Pandora!

And we were final queued. And, I timed it. 50 minutes!

B37DAE97-B91B-4EBA-B14F-122C851197E5.jpeg

We were sitting there waiting the last anxious minutes and we heard that glorious call...

“Party of two?! Need a party of two!?”

This is an old thing I learned coming with my Grandfather. He and I were often a party of two. In fact, one of the goofy things I have recommended to families that ask me about trip ideas is that they split off for a few hours into parties of two.

Not only do you get this little “perk”, it is easier to get around and just do things in general.

But, to each there own. To me, this is the way to do it!

Anyway, off we went!

The ride was even more impressive the second time.

I was able to sit back and lean into the ride, and look around. I wasn’t so interested in what they were doing (that much was obvious, this is Soarin on steroids, with a static theatre / load with “shields”. The wind, water and smell effects come from your dragon (which is why they tell you to keep your hands on the bars)...none of the mechanical logistics are impressive at all, really.

But, the SHOW is.

I don’t even like Avatar, but this ride is just gorgeous. I am glad the kid insisted we do it once more.

And, it was time to head off.

And headed off.

I admit, I was in the “doom and gloom” crowd about Pandora, but now having seen it, I am impressed.

The boat ride is disappointing. They could use a few more unique food things back there. Especially unique snacks.

And, I would love to see the place at night (which we never got to).

But, for a new land, it is really fun. The anchor attraction is one of the best Disney has done in recent years, and the land itself is breathtakingly beautiful.

As a comparison of the art, at Kong, which is impressive, you can tell the “hazing” they did to give the cliffs depth...at Pandora, they did it, and you can’t tell. You walk up it in the queue, and are close to it, and you still can’t tell...to me, that is Disney Imagineering showing off what they can do, and I hope they keep at it!

But, before we left, the kiddo had one more mission for us.

But, we had places to be, and this one was more me.

See, I love Peter Pan, and I really wanted to do it. My aim was to hit it during the fireworks, but we also wanted to hit splash one last time.

Had the Lyft not left us in Timbuktu, we would have made this plan (hit both during fireworks), but that didn’t happen.

So we booked it down the “secret way” during shows.

After this, the fireworks were over, and Peter Pan was back up over an hour.

It took me all day but in between chores I'm all caught up!

Looks like the kiddo is having a great time being in control of the planning, great dad move!! Kudos to her for wearing that robe for two days at UNI, it was making me hot just looking at the pictures.

It's been a great report, it sounds like you're having lots of fun. Maybe you should stay over here with us pixie dusters and stay away from the rumors and news thread. We're glass half full kind of people

Liked your photos and commentary about Tiffins--looks like a good restaurant!

Was surprised that your DD wasn't enjoying the parking lot tram--I always thought those were a blast. (Haven't ridden on one for many years. I used to stay off-site, and would rent a car; but I only stay on-site now, and don't rent a car anymore.) I think if her first visits to the parks had been via car & then the tram to the front gates, her opinion might have been different. To me, it was just a part of the buildup to arriving at the parks--more fun ahead! :)

Yes - the Seeds Tour! That looks really cool and definitely like something I need to try next time I make it there … our last trip a few weeks ago was the first time we ever ate at Garden Grille and we loved that. We actually spent quite a bit of time at the Land Pavilion this time -- it was nice. But who know when we will be back - we are not DVC, unfortunately, Plus, we are doing a Very Merrytime Cruise in 2019 (one on the less expensive weeks) and my son has his sights set on DisneyLAND for his HS graduation present. So we have a lot of saving up to do just for those trips.

But it looks like your last full day was pretty successful - hitting three parks and some new experiences to boot! As far as TT in EPCOT is concerned, have you ever thought of trying it single rider? My son discovered that trick the last time we were there, and it works pretty well -- even for a family of four! Sometimes you get in the same car, sometimes in the next car, but any way you dice it, its a good way to just get on the ride and check the box, so to speak. I don't think that we ever waited more than 15 minutes for single rider experience.

Also, as to the construction over at Universal -- was that over in/near Hogsmeade? That may be the new HP-themed family coaster that is meant to replace the Dragon Challenge which they took down last year (or early this year? I cannot remember what my son was telling me). He carries far superior coaster knowledge than I do … :)

Could be. Dragon Challenge was still running on our trip though. Kiddo declined doing it.

Good idea about Single Rider. I did mention it to the kid repeatedly, but was rejected.

Next trip I may push a little harder using your example that we may end up in the same, or near the same, car anyway. And, we would still get to experience the queue together! I hadn’t thought about it that way!

Thanks!

One Little Spark...

Day 9 - And now it’s time, to say good bye, to all our company.

One last walk around Hourglass.

One last coffee.

Even the Ducks came over to say goodbye.

I picked up a Bounty Platter and the kid and I shared it. No grapes today...they were out.

This actually happened several times during our stay. She likes the larger cups, not the little snack baggies. But, she did have her grapes and bacon, as we had two snack baggies left over in the room.

We had done most of our packing Saturday morning, so only last minute stuff was left for today. The kid had a lot!

Our boarding pass was hanging on our door, but they only had printed the kids boarding pass, as she had the earlier flight, so that was the one I registered with Disney.

This won’t work, because she is flying alone...so, we have to do it all over again at the airport anyway.

I...don’t remember them printing out tickets like this and putting them on the door. I love the concept of the resort airline check in and bag services, but I am not fond of the idea of them placing actual boarding passes on people’s front doors.

They should put it in the room, if they want to do that service.

I work with and design systems that deal with PII (Personally Identifiable Information), and am sensitive to that sort of thing, I suppose.

Then something rather sad came through our phone as we were walking to the Lobby.

In waves you could hear everyone at Pop getting notified by that terrifying buzz. Pinellas County though...so St Petersburg. Quite a ways away.

I hope things turn out well.

So, we said goodbye to Pop.

And on the way out, spied the Dream again. The kiddo said she wants to do another cruise. Maybe I can find a good deal on a 4 day or something. We have done the Fantasy twice. I would like to see one of the other ships.

Soon we were waiting. I went to snag us some drinks for the trip, and she watched the bags.

And, about 10 minutes later, our ride was pulling up!

And we began our journey back to the “real world”.
