Enchanted Tiki Room

Any chance they will boot the new management and bring back the original program at the Enchanted Tiki Room? I just spent a week down at WDW and the "New Management" show is insufferable.

I saw the old show out at Disneyland about 7 years ago and loved it. I also saw it in 1977 at the MK.

Here's to going back to the classic. I would go to it every trip if it came back.

No, you don't understand ... we can't build or update an attraction anymore unless it stars a film character and/or mocks a previously beloved attraction.

I believe there were plans to refurbish it for the 40th, but they probably got cut. One would have to taake into consideration if the original show would be as loved by the Florida crowd as the Anaheim crowd. Regardless, in my opinion the old show blasted the current incarnation out of the water. Krack is most likely right...they don't generally build new attractions wiithout some sort of tie-in these days.

But TDO could care less about the Florida crowd. They want to appease the tourists - not the locals.

I know that I'm in the minority here, but I found The Enchanted Tiki Room as insufferable as a child. The WDW update wouldn't have been too bad if it had been a short run and a bridge to a new, modern Tiki Room. Unfortunately, it's been under new management for more than a decade. It reminds me of those rug stores that are perpetually going out of business, but stay in business for years.:p

Or the furniture stores that are ALWAYS having a sale.

It amazes me that consistently the Disneyland Tiki Room which has essentially a shortened version of the original show is always pulling in full or nearly full shows... I believe their Tiki Room is open from park opening up until park closing (has not been the case at WDW for ever!)... they even sell merchandise for the attraction....

Meanwhile here at WDW, a majority our fans clamor for the return of the show that Disneyland enjoys each and everyday.... seems like the Imagineers at WDW recognized this if as the poster abose stated that there were scuttled plans for the 40th. Its a shame too.. what a positively AWESOME component of the Memories campaign this would have been...

They still will hopefully do this... I suppose if they truly wanted to they could still greenlight this and have it open before Oct 1, 2011.....giving Jose Back His Show, and returning this attraction to "Under Walt's Management"....

So TDOs perception of the Tourists is that they are mindless drones who are stupid and prefer dumbed down/watered down attractions and shows? Awesome.... of course wasnt Disneyland kind of in a state in the past where TDA was sort of treating their Locals the same way? Only now TDA has more or less embraced their Locals and the result is that Disneyland Resort is a rising star once again in terms of Disney Quality, etc.... If what I read is correct, this only happened after the Locals started to band together to give themselves a voice.

I know the arguement is that there are a lot more Non-Locals visiting WDW, but I counter that arguement that there a lot more local visitors to WDW than there are to DLR...its just that we get squeezed out by the tourists numbers here. ALSO in a sense any of you who visits WDW once or twice a year or more should also want to unite...because what is good for the Locals is good for ALL.. After all isnt making WDW the Best it can be what we all want???

SADLY Universal and the other parks in the Orlando area have apparently researched the "Locals problem" that DLR had back in the 1990s....and have placed a lot of focus on the Florida Locals which in turn is starting to chip away at WDW's number..... granted it isnt major yet, but then again remember the mosquito concept: one will not really bother you, but enough of them can bring down the mightiest of Beasts....

If WDW's TDO fails to change their ways to be more like TDA current or Tokyo Disney's approach....then as they say in the Pirates : There be Rough Waters Ahead.

In my opinion? Yes. Just look at what they've done to Future World.

Awesome.... of course wasnt Disneyland kind of in a state in the past where TDA was sort of treating their Locals the same way? Well ... I think it was more of a situation where they, simultaneously, (1) stopped emphasizing maintenance and upkeep, and (2) chased vacationers. In other words, it wasn't that they said "screw the locals" - instead they were desperately trying to turn the Disneyland Resort into a multi-day travel destination for the west coast. That's why you got a second park and the Grand Californian Hotel. They did it on the cheap and the vacationers didn't come in numbers that they had expected/hoped, so they began listening to the ever louder maintenance complaints that were coming from the local annual passholders.

I know the arguement is that there are a lot more Non-Locals visiting WDW, but I counter that arguement that there a lot more local visitors to WDW than there are to DLR...its just that we get squeezed out by the tourists numbers here.

Judging by the annual attendance numbers, I'm not sure that's correct. Might be, but I bet it's really close.

I can't comment on Universal Orlando, but Universal California does a great job catering to locals. I'm not sure why, but they are constantly offering discounts. Their Citywalk is also far more popular than Anaheim's Downtown Disney, for a lot of reasons, but the biggest ones probably being location and variety of venues.

I am one of the few who actually like the new show. Personally i would not like the old show to come back but a newer one.

I don't get all the hatred of the new Tiki Room. I think it's just fine.

I guess it's personal opinion like everything else. It's one of those things you always hear people talking online about "raping my childhood".
You know:
"Freaking George Lucas, Jar Jar Binks raped my childhood."
"Indiana Jones and the Crystal Skull was so horrible, it felt like it raped my childhood"
Etc...

Well:
-- I quite like the prequils (as a massive Star Wars fan)
-- Han shot first and not the other way around, but I can still watch the special editions of SW and have fun
-- I enjoyed Indy 4,
-- I can enjoy the Transformers / GI Joe / (place your other remakes of saturday morning cartoon movies) for what they are, mindless fun entertainment

But the closest thing for me that I would ever consider even using that terribly cliche phrase on is that moment that the "New Management" cuts into the original Tiki Room song and takes over an attraction that to me was for some reason the most magical of them all as a child.

Iago and Zazu may not have raped my childhood, but I'd consider pressing charges for assult...

would you be fine with spray painting the mona lisa too? this is what they did to it.

That's a little over the top isn't it.

Now I will agree that the original version is better but even I will admit that I enjoyed the change when "Under New Managment" first came out. With all this said, I would enjoy seeing the orginal version brought back but more than anything else the Tiki Room is in need of a little TLC. If nothing else, shut it down and give it the necessary refurb and bring the sparle backs to Jose.

My first trip to WDW was in 1975 - I was 10 years old. We loved just about everything with one exception - the Tiki Room which we all thought was a bit cheesy and kind of strange. That said, the original show was much better than the updated version. It had charm. The new version is cynical and a bit harsh which is not what I'm looking for at WDW. I also think its inconsistent with the overall tone of MK. Worse yet, it isn't a very good show, although the animatronic that comes up out of the center fountain is pretty cool. I would love to see an updated Tiki Room but not a return to the old show. I think the fondness people hold for the old show is more pervasive in Anaheim.

I have to admit that I like both versions. I wouldn't mind a return of the original or a new version combining both just so long as stitch is not included.

The Epcot Manifesto
As Walt said let's keep moving forward. Meaning let WDI come up with something new without a movie character please.

As much as it pains me to say it, I'd rather have them raze the entire building and start from scratch than keep the current show. Drastic yes, I'd prefer an updated version of the original show (update the AA characters, etc), but if they are not going to give me a version of the original, I think I'd prefer Stitch's Tiki-Tastic Adventure to the New Management.

And with that being said, I know in 25 days (well, 26, since MK will be on day 2 of my trip), I'll be there, sitting in the audience, like the I am, just hoping that it's not as bad as I remember it. And it will be as bad as I remember it. And I will be sad. Happens every trip. :brick:

If memory serves me correctly nothing from the original show has really been removed so I don't understand why they couldn't just add the original show back as a program and run it during Extra Magic Hours for the fans of the original.
