You can't have Indiana Jones and not have snakes.

Going back to the video released yesterday, I was intrigued by this:

Screen Shot 2024-04-06 at 12.23.14 AM.png

Playing around with that carving I got this:

1.jpg

Hard to make out, but the middle looked serpentine. Googling "Mayan serpent relief carving" I discovered the "Vision Serpent"

Here is the relief now at the British Museum next to the Disney carving for comparison:

The perspective is off, but all the major features line up, so I'd say it's a match.

If you want super-early merch, Walmart has already beat Disney to it:
Not sure how or even if this will make it into the ride, but it's another link to animals, history, and culture that this very flexible I.P. can bring to Animal Kingdom.

Great find. I could easily see this being worked into it as well as “The ancestor or god who was being contacted was depicted as emerging from the serpent's mouth. The vision serpent thus came to be the method in which ancestors or gods manifested themselves to the Maya.”

Indy would hate that. Because “why’d it have to be snakes?!”

Take the Bengal Barbecue menu from DL, copy it, and then put it across from Indy

Surely the food will be drawing from the proud tradition of the "Tropical Americas?" No reason there should be southeast asian flavors shoe-horned into a latin american land....

True but I've been saying I think DCA is a boat ride, suspended Coco ride and indoor coaster away from feeling like a legitimate full day park. Sounds like we may be getting 2 of the 3. Yensid is now teasing a Coco ride for DCA on the Encanto/ Indy DAK thread.

I specifically say indoor coaster because I think DCA needs more immersive themed indoor experiences. You can only take it so far outdoors. Besides, as much as I want to see a Hagrids style coaster at DLR, RSR kind of has the outdoor sprawling thrill ride covered for DCA. Anyway, I suppose whatever they have planned for the Avengers ride can substitute for the indoor coaster. Or you know, they could just give us an Avengers themed Cosmic Rewind.

The "suspended" element of Coco is your own invention right? I'm not familiar with any insider based rumors for a Coco dark ride besides the "Soarin 2.0" concept that would (hopefully) not be a fit for DCA. I've always imagined a Mystic Manor type trackless experience through the mansion and eventually Land of the Dead.

Fully on board with the other additions you've mentioned

Yea that’s my own. No insider has said that’s coming but one teased a Coco ride coming to DCA. Hopefully not being shoehorned into Soarin.

Through which Mansion? De La Cruz’s? It’s not really featured much in the movie. I think a Coco ride needs to be in the air flying over Santa Cecilia, through a portal at the cemetery and into the land of the dead/ the different locales from the movie. I guess the imagineers agree although I don’t think a Soarin ride Is the move. I see Coco working like a charming FL style dark ride. The Pan D ticket in Shanghai is what I wish they’d do.

Why is the height requirement for Dinosaur 6 inches less than Indy (46 inches) when they have the same ride system with more or less the same motion? 6 inches is a lot. California v. Florida thing? All the other similar attractions seem comparable though.

Do we expect the height requirement to stay the same after the retheme? I imagine it will stay the same but if it were to go up that would eat into some of the extra capacity created by the Tropical Americas project.

Indy is more violent. CTX had a higher height requirement in 1998 until the motion was toned down when it became Dinosaur. I think it was actually 48” in 1998 but I’m not 100% on that.

Image of the temple mock-up. No forbidden eye. No crystal skull. There is something at the top though. Looks like a beast with a huge open mouth... and ears.

But in the concept art it's red. Seems odd.

Googling "Myan Red Temple" led to this:

Looks the same. It's called Rosalila Temple:

The beast is apparently a Jaguar.

This seems a clear inspiration. Disney has taken it and elongated it. I'd say the beast in the Disney version looks different. More like a snake or crocodile... or dinosaur. But in case they are going with Jaguars:

Either way, if this is the design, I love it. It is very distinct looking.

Would this mean a jaguar exhibit at AK? That would be incredible.

I wonder if, given the Indy connection, they’d have a snake exhibit? They could absolutely display some anacondas.

That would positively excite some guests while simultaneously turning others off.
shudders🫣the thought alone petrifies me lol........but it is a good connection to Indy's story,,,,just please no.

No doubt somewhere there has to be exhibit space with signage "INDY, I KNOW YOU ARE AFRAID, BUT YOU SHOULDN'T BE BECAUSE MOST SNAKES ARE NOT EVEN VENOMOUS..." with facts about Snakes.

Maybe that is the joke with the attraction. Indy has always had a hatred for them and has had some encounters.

This one, is the ultimate mythical level in a temple of snakes.

They need to either lean into it or not at all. Because that is part of the issue with Indy. He is the antithesis of conversation of animals.

I just don’t see either Encanto and Indie fitting into AK. Indie is already in HS. Encanto or Indiana doesn’t have enough animals in there stories to offer a proper fit in a park themed around animals. Disney is now trying to make the main theme about lands just to include there IP . Indiana Jones attraction is just about using an attraction they already have constructed and tweaking it so they can do it on the cheap.

Animals are such a small part of the story in Encanto that it really doesn't make sense in the park. Ditto for Indy. Dinosaurs make perfect sense in the park and the Dinoland area should just be given TLC, not erased.

Besides, IIRC, Indy was considered when the park opened initially and they chose to go with Dinosaur instead. So I'm not understanding the logic in this switch, considering Indy is a dated IP and the last movie didn't do well anyway.

Definitely this. It is no secret that is the mandate. Execs have admitted it.

Let's just hope it can be creatively well done the best it can be without any budget cutting that we are not even to the phase of yet.
