OK...listening to this song, "Cleaning Out my Closet", I was wondering, how does Eminem get off with writing this song? How is this allowed to play on the radio?!

This is not protected speech under the first ammendment!

This is slander! How can he talk about his parents this way!?

Eminem is very talented, . I enjoy his music very much, if he wants to sing about his parents that way, then let him. Do you know the history of his family? His Mom was a drug addict. I have no problems with anything he says.

Has she ever sued him?

Personally, I think his music is hilarious....I mean he even states that he is not serious about half of the crap he says anyway.

I think it is a good way to push the freedom of speech futher :) GO EMINEM!:sohappy:

I personally don't care for it, but my 2 girls love it and so does my husband (the metal head). I just can't get into his music. (not my style) Now give me Aerosmith, Guns and Roses, Poison, The Stones, Ozzy,(old) VanHalen, Motley Crue, Bon Jovi, etc....

I think Eminen is a very talented, damaged, angry man. I don't know anything about his family other than what's been reported in the media (and who knows how accurate THAT is), but it seems obvious that he wasn't raised by the Waltons. The music industry is all about making money, and they don't care whose feelings are hurt, or lives are destroyed, in the process. If the kids are willing to buy into all that anger and hurt, record companies are only too happy to take their money. This is in no way a rant against Eminem, because, as I said, he's a talented and charismatic man. It's just too bad that so much of what he produces is so full of hate, and it's even worse to know that hate sells.

His Mom has sued him, his ex-wife, and a few other people lol. I think his music is just his way of taking out his anger against people, it's a lot better than going out and shooting somebody don't you think??

I think he is a good father also, I respect people like him, Kid Rock, and Jon Davis because even though they cuss and do whatever, they still really love their kids and spend time with them.

He also writes all his own music, with a little help from Dre, which I think is great considering all of the hits he has had.

I've always liked Eminem for his "assaults" on censorship and basically pushing the envelope like nobody else has. Although lately, I've just been getting tired of him in general. In my book he's been around too long and his whole thing is getting old.

I'll like him forever as long as he keeps on attacking pop stars.

Yes, it’s just too bad that his biggest audience is an incredibly impressionable one and that he knows that they are and completely doesn’t care. In all honesty, I doubt his biggest audience has a true understanding of what freedom of speech really means. I know a lot of young people who don’t understand it’s limitations (lord knows we run into young ones on this forum that think they have the right to say whatever they want to whomever they want and then get really, really angry when people push back).

As Eminem would say “All women are _________” I guess that makes you one, too… Just joking. Do you respect me for saying that and does saying that I’m just joking make it ok? How would you feel if your father said that to you?... How about your boyfriend/husband?... Or some day your son?

For what it’s worth, hate propaganda is not protected under the first amendment and our good friend walks a pretty fine line when it comes to that. The phrase “just kidding” may get him past censors for the time being but I feel true pity for a society that views that as a good thing. There are still people today that consider what the Nazis did to be art. Does that somehow justify it and make it acceptable to the people that lived through it? You may think I’m blowing this totally out of proportion. Sure, he’s just talking about his life and what happened to him and so on. Yep, he had it rough. So did someone else:

I challenge you to follow the link and look for similarities both in personal histories and in beliefs and attitudes.

People like Eminem like to try ducking the responsibility that comes with their ability to be heard but any time you influence people, you bare some of the responsibility for their actions. History has taught us this. Sure, there is a difference and I’m not saying that Eminem is planning world domination with a race of bleached hair, “wife beater” wearing young white guys or anything but the Nazi movement did not start with the planned extermination of a race either. What he fuels may not lead to World War III but there is a little quote that some people may be familiar with that comes from a book written early in the last century: “So this is how the world ends, not with a bang but a whimper.

Laugh all you want now but one day years from now you’ll hear something on the radio that you can in no way relate to and you’ll be amazed that people ever had a problem with Eminem. You’ll think it’s horrible and you’ll not believe that anybody could find it entertaining – sort of like the way some adults today look back on groups like 2 Live Crew…. They were just raunchy, they never alienated social groups or simulated murder on their albums… Perhaps one day we’ll get to listen to some real snuff audio from whoever comes along to replace the new guy in the spot light. Just imagine the video for that song! I can hardly wait!

Eminem is a dirt bag, I really had no problem with him before this year's VMA's, I just hated his music with a passion.

Then he acts like a big man and threatens Moby.......I was yelling at my TV, what an AHOLE......he's a big man, calling someone names and threatening to beat down moby in front of America, highlight of my night was when the crowd started booing his a$$ off the stage.....no room for thugs in my world, I wish there was some way he could go bankrupt and lose all his money......and his stupid movie better tank!!!

The IRS has been the undoing of many of the rich and pompous. Let's hope his accountant is an idiot.

I just hope I don't live long enough to hear his stuff as elevator music.

So true, MrPromey, that with success and popularity come a certain responsibility. Eminem sells hate and anger, and impressionable kids buy (literally) right into that. I think you're right, too, about long-range consequences.
