Ellen's voice is back in the ride... but her animatronic is probably gone for good.

This latest cheap cop-out at Universe of Energy is not Imagineering's fault. They can only do what they are given the money to do. The money WDI gets comes from the local executive team responsible for the property. Thus, DCA got a 1 Billion Dollar Extreme Makeover because Team Disney Anaheim executives built a business case for it and lobbied Burbank for that cash.

Team Disney Orlando doesn't want to spend the money, and the TDO building is apparently led by senior executives who either don't care or don't even know what state most of their property is in. I would bet two churros that most senior execs in Orlando haven't ridden Energy in years, if not a decade or more. It's up to them to fund the projects they want to fund, and build a business case to present to Burbank for bigger project budgets like helping Epcot out of its miserable slump it's in. Those Orlando execs would argue back "Hey, we're doing the Frozen ride in Norway! And we repainted Future World last year. And we are building a third Soarin' theater. We're spending money on Epcot! And Avatarland too!"

It's not Imagineering's fault that Energy looks like it does. It's the fault of the people who work in this building...

Team Disney Orlando - Hi George! (Not attached to a theme park, but plenty of parking)

How often do you think the execs in this building actually schedule time to get in their company cars, drive over to a WDW theme park, schlep through the heat and humidity and crowds, and go on an old ride like Universe of Energy??? I would bet that very, very rarely ever happens.

Bingo! ;)
WDI came up with M:S. That was all on WDI. I am not convinced a replacement for UOE would fit FW. The first theme to TT was terrible. Fitzy's Imagination was an abomination.

Remember what Horizons taught us: "if you can drink it, then you should do it!"

:joyfull:

or, like some morons at Japan's sake tasting area: "If you can drink it, then you should shoot it". Sake is not for shots! Even the kind CM's attempt to tell guests "It's meant for sipping", not downing like some frat boy

At the Edible Product Community Of Tasting the only thing that matters to guests and management is food and beverage.

Rides? Who cares when you got a Tequila bar waiting for you! And if you're still bored you can always drop $200 on a wine and dine tour.

Remember what Horizons taught us: "if you can drink it, then you should do it!"

And I remember what Excess taught me...

We are more to blame than anyone at Disney is.

If by "we" being to blame means the guests, then I totally disagree. We are paying customers and the company should be earning our business. If we are not going in increasing measure to Epcot if means we are not given reason to. If you mean we are to blame because we keep going, I would say "maybe". My guess is the hoards of one time visitors are keeping numbers high vs repeat customers.

So I got to put my arm chair imagineering comment in as someone posted awhile back about turning it into a time travel pavilion, and OMG, a Dr. Who ride through time and space. It could still keep a scientific and some what edu-tainment bend to it, the franchise spans multiple generations, has world wide appeal, and is already merchandised in the UK pavilion, so they can sell stuff too. Just my 2 cents, now someone call BBC and make it so.

There's a much more obvious solution if we're going to replace Ellen and Bill Nye...

"Let's see. Giant star in the sky, oxygen rich atmosphere, giant ***ticle monsters. Yeah we're good; let's keep this party going!"

This sounds like a perfect fit! Don't even need to swap out the dinos!

I like UoE the way it is in its current format...it clearly needs refurb though and I'd happily take that or a bit more of an update so long as the ride itself and the dinorama are left intact!

Went on this ride this past week to show my friend who hadn't been to WDW. I fell asleep after the dinosaurs, and that's saying something, because I'm not one for naps.

In my opinion, the removal of the Ellen AA and the snake creature can't detract from the ride any more than its dated nature already does. I mean really, people in the preshow by me chuckled when they saw Ellen's phone.

I love this idea and concept. So much. And it makes perfect sense. The unfortunate part is that Disney doesn't own Dr. Who, and I doubt BBC would ever be willing to part with it.

Has Disney ever really tackled time travel tales within already existing properties?

And yet they sure are selling quite a bit in the UK Pavilion...

I knew there was Dr. Who merch in the UK pavilion, but that doesn't mean they can up and theme a ride in the park with it. For example, in the Japan pavilion they have a plethora of Domo-kun items. I remember one was even dressed as Batman, which DC Comics theme park rights in North America are held by Six Flags. By that same token, I've also seen merchandise from the Voltron, Robotech, Gundam, Astro Boy and a bunch of other Japanese animation franchises, but the theme park rights to all those things are another matter.

I don't think Dr. Who has a wide audience

Dr. Who is more than 50 years old and has a massively global fanbase. It didn't get where it is on tea and biscuits alone. Within sci-fi, it's not on the level of Star Wars and Star Trek, but it's probably comfortably in 3rd place, if the aforementioned two are #1 and #2.

It's probably because Christopher Eccleston was rubbish compared to David Tennant. When Matt Smith came along, I stopped watching.
That may not be everyones opinion, I know, but could be the reason why.
