Elio (Pixar - June 2025)

Eh, they are referring to movies from 1964 and 1997 about an event that occurred in 1912. I don't think anyone is making light of what's currently happening.

I hadn't even thought of that, to be honest. But I was watching the news today and my gosh, what a saga that is down there now.

And just to get this off my chest... I find it fairly distasteful to do that sort of "sightseeing" of the Titanic. It's tacky and disrespectful of the dead, and I'm not sure how anyone would think otherwise. I can't imagine thinking that sort of tourism was okay, even if it was safe.

If we're going down the Breathed rabbit hole (and yes, ditto the Mars/Moms comments), I would rather have seen a space movie based on . . .

The release date for Elio has shifted more than a year to June 13, 2025.

And Live Action Moana is schedule for just two weeks later. Look for one of them to move before long...

This makes sense to me. They’ve rebuilt goodwill with Elemental, now they release a sequel that people should come out to see:

More good will. And hopefully people turn out for Elio after.

Yeah, if Pixar has two hits in a row, it would position Elio to be in a better position for box office success in 2025.

Pixar has released a teaser trailer for Elio.

So this movie has been massively retooled. I don’t know if America Ferrera’s character even exists anymore. Elio’s motivations and personality are different. The abduction motivation is completely different (he’s trying to contact aliens and be abducted). They’ve even updated his look.

It’s super interesting that this teaser exists on the web.

I think it looks better than the 2024 version of the story. Which wasn’t gelling, obviously.

And yet, they somehow kept the matricide.... joke.

Disney needs this to be a hit. The Parks need this to be a hit.

It still suffers from the sci fi problem. There’s a terrible track record there. But it looks much more appealing to me than strange world was. It’s also more playful and a bit fantasy leaning. It looks fun as opposed to a frightened little boy that the teaser trailer of yore pitches, not so self serious.

I think this is the upcoming animated feature I'm most interested in.

Very curious to see an updated trailer. Perhaps I am among the few who felt this way, but I actually though the first trailer seemed pretty good!

Pixar seems to have updated details for the movie and you are right, America Ferrera isn't mentioned:

For centuries, people have called out to the universe looking for answers—in Disney and Pixar’s all- new feature film “Elio,” the universe calls back! The cosmic misadventure introduces Elio, a space fanatic with an active imagination and a huge alien obsession. So, when he’s beamed up to the Communiverse, an interplanetary organization with representatives from galaxies far and wide, Elio’s all in for the epic undertaking. Mistakenly identified as Earth’s ambassador to the rest of the universe, Elio must form new bonds with eccentric alien lifeforms, navigate a crisis of intergalactic proportions, and somehow discover who and where he is truly meant to be.

Directed by Madeline Sharafian (“Burrow” Sparkshort), Domee Shi (“Bao” short, “Turning Red”), and Adrian Molina (screenwriter and co-director of “Coco”), and produced by Mary Alice Drumm (associate producer of “Coco”), the film features the voices of Zoë Saldaña as Aunt Olga, Jameela Jamil as Ambassador Questa, Brad Garrett as Lord Grigon, and Yonas Kibreab as the title character. “Elio” releases in theaters June 13, 2025.

Yeah. The look of the movie is definitely not appealing to me. Hopefully the story is better.

Agreed. I really would like to see Pixar have a hit on their hands with this original story, but it just feels off to me. I'm not really inspired to want to see it and it just feels like it will not do well.

Be happy to be proven wrong.

It still has the ugly big eyes/big teeth character look for Turning Red, Luca and others. I'm not a fan of that character design. However, all the really matters is the story and I'm glad they are retooling it. It was suppose to be released last spring.
