So yesterday I visited MK with my family including my mother in law. It was her first trip to Disney. God bless her heart, she is very sweet, but on the REALLY hefty side. Long story short I was tasked with pushing her in a wheel chair up the LONG ramp at the end of a twelve hour MK day. Needless to say I am recommending that workout to Seal Team Six. Does anyone know why Disney hasn't invested in an elevator like the one they have in Epcot?

A guess, cost. The area at the MK station would require a lot of earth moving to find an appropriate spot to construct an elevator or a lot of fancy bridge work. Might be interesting to see what response you get from an inquiry e-mail to WDW.

Looks like it will be near-impossible to put one at the MK station

If there's anywhere that needs an elevator, it would be the TTC stations. If they were able to install an elevator at the Contemporary monorail station 20 or so years after it opened, I don't see how difficult it would be to install one at those stations.

Because it's not really necessary.

Putting an elevator at the Epcot side of the TTC would be a good idea however.

I did, but you can't take it out of the park. So they let you borrow a loaner chair to get to the monorail.
Next time (if there is a next time) rent from an off property company that will deliver it to your resort, you keep it the length of your stay and can go anywhere with it, then they pick it up checkout day. A LOT cheaper than renting daily in the parks. I did this when I broke my ankle right before our trip.

I have always heard that any kind of major modification to the TTC or MK monorail stations would require them to additionally make the stations ADA compliant, as they are not right now. The ramps going up to the platforms are too steep and lack the required level breaks. Making these ramps ADA compliant would require pushing them out into the front entrance area which in turn would likeley mean they would have to rework the traffic patterns in that area. I would imagine this could evolve into a large project as different things would have to be moved around.

Try waiting for 20 wheelchairs or scooters at an elevator during heavy crowds, you may want that ramp. Think of the Land pavillion.

Is there not somewhere they could add something like this?

Not to GF and the Poly. The resort launch cannot accommodate wheelchairs or ECVs. Only the large boat that goes to Fort Wilderness can. As well, no boat to the Contemporary.

You can ask the captain of the launch to radio a cruiser and they will break route and pickup a wheelchair or ECV from GF, Poly, or Contemporary.
