Electrical Water Pageant

does anyone have the history on this bad boy, I know Ive seen it in the early 90's and my Dad watched it in the 70's so has it been around since day 1?

I am not sure if it ran from day 1 but it has definitely been running since the early 70s. The original version used Barqoue Hoedown which was later used in the MSEP.

I love the EWP and try to see it atleast once per trip. From either the GF or Poly dock are good veiwing locations.

I think this is the longest running show they have. I seem to catch it about every 5 years or so, I don't think it has changed much but it is a cute way to pass time on the beach. It started well before any of the night time spectaculars they have today. I don't know if it has been there since opening but I believe it was there well before Epcot.

to somewhat quote to best of memory bob jani a former disney exec, it was created as entertainment for guests & to do something in the then pitch black horizon of wdw. the concept led to msep, which if anyone has seen early pics of the floats were flat like those on the water 35 years later. the same music was the inspiration for msep.

When I went to WDW as a kid, we were playing on the beach at the Poly at dusk our very first night there. All of a sudden, as night fell, this totally unexpected little water pagent started. (It was our first trip and we had no idea it was a scheduled event.) Us kids just squealed with delight over it -- synthesized music and all. We thought it was just such a cool thing for WDW to do for a hotel!

I remember that experience with a smile to this day -- so we make a point of seeing it with our own kids now at least once a trip. :)

I also remember it as a kid staying at Ft. Wilderness. It was a pretty big deal back then. I'm thrilled that it's still around. Nothing betten than a fond childhood memory.

Its just one of those things that I hope they never update. Itoo agree that the poly is the bect viewing location. The boat dock at FWC has the closest viewing location.

How about from the water as "best viewing location?" Has anyone done that from one of the cruises or something? I'd like to know before our trip.

Are you able to go to one of the MK resorts to watch this even if you're not staying there? I mean, can you get down to the water without resort ID?

We stayed at the Contemporary Hotel and we took a stroll one night to watch the pageant by the docks near the pool after dinning at the Concourse Steakhouse. I don't think you would have any problems going through the lobby to get to the docks.

Not sure about how the wishes cruies work exactly but while we were waiting for EWP the boat that goes from FWC to Cont was approaching and had to wait out in Bay Lake during the show. They got a great view. As soon as that was over we boarded the boat for MK and watched Wishes on the way over with the grand Finalie as we were docking.

ELP was originally flat and not parade floats? I have never seen pictures of a flat ELP. Anyone have some? Martin?

Can anyone tell me about the electrical water pageant, what its like and where is best to watch it from?:)

To me, it's one of the best kept secrets in all of WDW.

And yes the beach at polynesian is the best place to see it. And you can actually see it from certain areas of MK.

Worth the watching at least once in your life.

Enjoy.

We were on the launch from the MK to the Poly one evening and had to wait for the EWP to pass a certain point before the boat would go any further. It was pretty neat seeing it from the launch.

We stayed in the south garden wing of the Contemporary once, and I thought that was an excellent place to watch it from. We stepped outside when we heard it, and it seemed like it was very close to us. I didn't even know about it in advance, so it was a great surprise.

Whenever i see it, i see about ten people go "What is That?'', and then they usually walk away. It is not a draw at all and is not mentioned anywhere on WDW property, but it never misses a night. Th shows first showing was October 14th, 1971. It disappeared for about four months in the early 90's, and returned looking fresh and new with the addition of King Triton.
