Effect of Brexit on WDW attendance?

Well, I'm from Belgium and last year I booked my 2016 Disneyworld holiday through UK Disney Travel company (they have great packages). At that time 1 Pound was equal to 1,45 euro... If I would book the same package today for next year, 1 pound would cost me 1,23 euro. So at this moment it's very interesting for me. At this rate it would save me about 600 pounds.

I think any global economic slowdown would have consequences. Whether this triggers one or if this is just short-term instability, who knows.

But when the American markets take a dump and people's 401k's get slammed, it's going to impact people's decisions to head to the gator-infested swamps of Florida.

In spite of the news today... My 401 went up, substantially. I guess it depends on your risk level. That's with an over 600 point loss in the market.

When you're the leader, you don't have to follow.
Considering us Brits have been going regardless of the exchange rates in the past I cant see that much difference. Might just mean people will buy less from the outlets as you can get the same back in the UK for the same cost.
We are going this year and will still be going next year regardless... there isn't a MK in the UK....
Just ask Canadians - we've been coming for years.

When the dollar is at or close to par, we eat a little better, rent a better car, buy a few more souvenirs.
And when it's at 77 cents, we cut back.

I do think this will have an impact for next year - the ever popular UK free dining package for the following year can be booked until November, and I just can't see many people booking a huge Disney holiday between now and then with the uncertainty that has been created.

We don't know what will happen - we don't know if jobs are safe. People will be saving, not spending on dream holidays. :(

Brexit will have no impact whatsoever it's just the weak value of the pound which is a bit of a shame. We have already booked for next August, the impact is reduced somewhat in that we only have flights left to buy which will be in GBP, car hire (which will be in USD so that will be more expensive) and then tips/souvenirs as we have bought the DDP. I am sure the pound will recover before then so long as it is above $1.4-£1 I will be reasonably happy although it wasn't that long ago I got over $2-£1 on one trip which was great!

I dont think it will have a huge impact, the pound-dollar has been a bit unhealthy for a few months now but seems to have recovered after the initial shock. I think there were fears that the UK-EU relationship will sever overnight whereas in reality it wont for another 2-4years, I think as contingencies are negotiated thinks will strengthen even futher (there might even be acomplete collapse of the EU and a reversion back to the original trading community of the 50's.

In regards to WDW, hopefully they will realize that instead of catering foreigners, they will need to take care of the local populace first so they aren't effected by what is happening in the UK and in Brazil.

As to my opinion on what went on with Brexit, I think the saying United we stand, divided we fall will come in play here soon as there will be no reason for countries to play nice with each other in Europe. If Scotland and Northern Ireland pull out of the UK, I definitely think attendance will fall even more so for Disney.

It's not going to be a good summer for WDW, that's for sure:
1. Terrorist attack
2. Alligator attack
3. Brexit. Drop in value of Pound
4. Drop in Brazillian tourism (not as well versed on their economic situation. Been reading that on this forum)

I think things will be fine in the long run. Yes people here in the uk are all in a bit of shock and the media is panicking but once we adjust to our new reality things will be fine - we Brits just need to have more of a great big beautiful tomorrow mentally and look to our new international future.

What will be more interesting is the impact on DLP - if it ends up more difficult for Brits to travel to Europe then DLP will take a hit, WDW may see a blip bit in the long run and people may spend less but our relationship with the us hasn't changed like it has with France

I'm not quite as optimistic (it depends on how you define long-run, and long-run for who), but I appreciate you (and others) saying so. I'm curious how DLP will be impacted, as well, i.e. will UKers opt for DLP or other tourist locations closer to home.

Couldn't the drop in Brazilian visitors also be attributed to that little sporting event they are hosting in a month?

Unless markets continue to panic and go down like they did Friday, this should have no impact.

If markets do keep falling, people will have less money to spend on Disney.

I personally think Friday was an overreaction as this decision seems political for the most part.

Stocks lost quite a bit of value Friday, hurting portfolios.
