I'm sick of the new Disney tactic of putting all of their movies' extras - the making-of stuff and so on - only on the Blu-Ray versions of their movies. I don't have a Blu-Ray player and don't know if I ever will. So the only version of "Wreck-It-Ralph" I can get for my DVD player is the basic DVD with no extras, not even the short "Paperman". Iger, you are a greedy . And STUPID. I would have bought the DVD if it had cool extras like the Pinocchio one did. But now, forget it. No Magenta money for you!

End of vent. Thanks for reading.

Yeah it sucks even if you have a Blu Ray player because the blu rays are double the price! It's sneaky and it's annoying. But they're all going to jump on the bandwaggon soon and be doing the same, so I'd go and get yourself a cheap blu ray player. I could get one in the UK for about £60 now. Save some pennies!

I'm much more annoyed they don't carry over existing bonus features from past DVD/Laserdisc releases onto newer ones (Saludos Amigos/Three Caballeros, Alice in Wonderland, Hunchback and Tarzan are all good examples). Giving customers who pay more for Blu-ray additional content is not an issue IMO. Were some annoyed that their VHS tapes didn't have commentary tracks, galleries or 5.1 audio? perhaps, but they weren't paying 2-3 times the price for laserdiscs.

Collectors (who typically go for the higher end formats, and care for bonus content and presentation), have largely moved on to Blu-ray as have a growing portion of the typical family audience who buys these movies. If 90+% of DVDs are just used as electronic babysitters than I don't see the point in complaining about a lack of extra content anymore on them. It's not like Blu-ray players cost several hundred dollars either at this point.

...Paperman is on the DVD. I know this because I have the basic DVD and have seen it using the DVD. The blue ray players are going down in price, though. My trick: On the day of the release, Target always sells the blue rays for cheaper. Usually, a normally $30 blue ray will be about $20. I did this with Brave to get the blue ray. Wreck-it Ralph my mother just decided to get the DVD for some reason, even though my dad told her to get blue ray. Oh well.

Paperman is on the DVD. Listed as a special feature according to the Amazon listing.

DVD is slowly dying out, like all media tech that has been supplanted by something better.

Like others said, the Blu ray tech is much cheaper these days. If you have an HD TV, and don't have Blu ray you are missing out.

The problem is that Disney's blu rays never come down in price. You can get plenty of good blu ray movies for $15 or less, but Disney movies are always insanely expensive.

I thought that the DVD/Blu Ray+digital download were only, $25. The regular DVD was $20. I would buy the multi format and cover the bases for the future. Also the DVD only of Wreck it Ralph does have the Paperman short, looks like nothing else. I see their multi format packs as a good deal in helping you build/transition your library for the future while still enjoying your current tech.

I bought myself a Sony 3D Blu Ray player for $80 this past Christmas despite not having a TV that can show 1080p let alone 3D. Just got a good deal and decided to plan ahead.

camelcamelcamel is your friend. It watches Amazon prices for you and tells you when they go down. I have an extension for Chrome that pops up in the address bar whenever I'm at an Amazon product page; if I click on it, it will show me a graph of the Amazon price, the 3rd party new price and the 3rd party used price, as well as a text representation of the highest and lowest prices. You can set it up to e-mail you when the price drops below a certain level. You don't even need an account. In about ten seconds after I read your post, I found that the 2-disc Wreck-It Ralph Bly-ray combo pack was 17.99 on 3/30.

The first week any new movie is released on Blu-ray, you can find them at about $17-19.99 at Walmart or Target. After than they'll go up to about $25-$30 so you gotta catch them that first week they're released.

I tried to fight off the Blu-ray disks as long as I could but I had an HD televesion already and when you see the difference in clarity and resolution...it's a world of difference. I can hardly get myself to watch a normal DVD anymore even when formatted to 1080p...and yes blu-ray players can be found on the cheap now.

That's because Disney wants you to get into their coupon/rewards program, which offers deals during the first week of release.

Although the quantity in discount value and number of coupons has dropped substantially.

It's a shame. I hate having to pay more for the blu-ray version

Blu ray is the wave of the future, until the next technology comes out. Unfortunately I don't see anything changing, more and more companies are going this route to get everyone on the blu ray bandwagon.

With an HD TV, Blu ray has far superior picture and sound. Thus, higher cost to produce the disks, leads to higher cost for the consumer.

FWIW, a Blu-ray disc holds a llooott more information than a DVD. As for why they don't give you multiple DVDs then? Not sure. Additional cost? Blu-ray came out later? Incentive to buy into Blu-ray? Profit? All of the above?

I think a DVD can hold something like four hours of video at its quality level, so there's room enough for special features. A lot of the multiple disc sets back in the day were because people value a "2-disc set" more than one disc jammed with features.
