eBay warning

The e-mail spoof is running around again. My wife just got hit by it (she didn't fall for it.)

A very well done e-mail comes in looking like an official ebay letter. I mean the thing is really good. It is a security letter asking you to click here to verify the security of your account (or some such nonsense.) It is a spoof and very well done.

No reputable company will ever ask for your password via an e-mail or directed web page.

Thought I would send up a warning on this.

I just want to say that I am impressed with eBay. I forwarded them the spoof and they replied yesterday with a generic letter. OK that is usual.

I got another follow up letter today that was not a generic letter. They are looking into the letter etc. I was just impressed that they responded back a second time with the specifics of my letter.

Not bad - nice to see customer service.

I got this alleged "eBay" e-mail a couple of months ago....

The e-mail stated they will delete my account because I have not bid on anyting recently and I have to "click here and enter my user ID and Password to reactivate my status".

Well I clicked on the link and the web address and even the site looked to be authentic and like eBay's sign in screen. I did not log in, but I decided to write eBay a y letter not to close my acct instead  .

So I e-mailed eBay asking them why they were deleting my account.... They Said "Uh... were not" so I forwarded the e-mail I got, to them... and to their fraud department... and the guy who set this up was busted.
