Maybe Disney execs will read the paper and decide to go ahead and shut down/redo the Backlot Tour....

One can only hope......

Well they are not simply closing them and keeping them closed, after all the Simpsons are opening where BTTF was next year and there are rumors that the Hollywood Dream Coaster from Universal Japan could be on its way into the earthquake building.

We definitely would have heard more than just a few random rumors regarding Hollywood Dream Coaster making it's way into USF.

The article mentions what is replacing earthquake.

Here...

I'll read it for you...

"Another early Universal Studios ride has closed so that it may be transformed into a new attraction.

"Earthquake - The Big One," a train ride through a collapsing San Francisco, allowing riders to see how Hollywood used to handle some big special effects, has closed. It will be replaced within weeks by a newly-themed attraction, called "Disaster!"

According to Universal Orlando resort, the ride, located in the San Francisco section of the theme park, should repen by the December rush, with more of an interactive experience and no specific movie tie in. The new ride's full name will be "Disaster! A Major Motion Picture Ride ... Starring You."

The ride originally was based on the 1974 disaster movie, Earthquake!, starring Charlton Heston. Unlike many of the other movies that Universal rides are based on, such as Jaws, Terminator 2: 3D or the other recently closed ride, Back to the Future: The Ride, so many visitors to Universal might never relate to the movie tie in.

Back to the Future is being replaced with a ride themed on the animated TV show, The Simpsons, slated to open next spring."

It looks like they're getting rid of alot of things that were there when we went in 2004. We plan to go back this April on our next WDW trip, but I wonder if it will even be worth it. My wife wants to do Universal again, and we both want to try out "The Mummy". But if they go and shut down that one, then we may scrap Univeral in favor of Busch Gardens.

Uhh ... they aren't going to close an E-ticket that opened only 3 years ago. :hammer:

The ride portion isn't getting much of a change (if at all). The majority of the change is coming in the pre-show portions. This portion of the attraction was handed over to the Entertainment department for a major revamp. I've always enjoyed the ride portion, just never liked the preshows. I'm very interested in what comes out of this, and I hope to be down there around Christmas again so this would be great.

I wish they would close it down for good, and put something WAY better in there. Out of all the movies Universal owns, there's a good one out there somewhere.
