Earl of Sandwich

So... Have any of you eaten there yet?

I was at Downtown Disney about a month ago and got lunch there. I heard it was already quite popular since it opened a couple weeks prior. It was busy when I went but the wait wasn't too bad. I had the Hawaiian BBQ sandwich, which is BBQ ham, swiss cheese and thin pineapple slices on their special bread and then toasted. OMG... absolutely AWESOME sandwich! I was amazed at how good it was and pretty much devoured it (and made a mess of my hands from the BBQ sauce.. LOL!). It even came wrapped in gold foil and was "sealed" shut, which I thought really added to the presentation. And the price is great.. it's the equavilent of going to McDonald's (maybe $1 more), but you get MUCH better quality food.

I'm going back to Downtown Disney in about a week and a half for a concert at House of Blues and I'm definitely going to have lunch at Earl of Sandwich again.

I totally agree with you. We ate there last week on our vacation and thought the sandwiches were great. The prices also seemed very reasonable for Disney property. It's a great addition to the Marketplace!

Four of us ate there last Sunday for lunch. While the food was great, the service wasn't very good.

First, the place seems rather confusing in that you place your sandwhich order at one place (and the sign is hanging so high that we saw most people would miss that and move on), order a salad at another, and pay at another. The salad is made right there where you order it, which is nice, so you take it with you. Then you pay, and wait for your number to be called when your sandwich is ready.

In our case, we had two people sharing a salad, and two others sharing a sandwhich. Since it took fifteen minutes for the sandwich, the people with the salad were long done by the time the sandwich arrived. Other folks waiting for a sandwich were milling around by the counter, and this mini-mob spilled over into the eating area, making the whole place seem crowded when, in fact, this was an off time. I can't imagine what it's like when there's a meal time rush!

I don't know if it always takes so long to get the sandwich made. We saw several people whose sandwich order was wrong, so that slowed things down as their sandwiches were remade. Perhaps those mistakes won't be so frequent as the staff learns more, but after being open for several weeks now I would have thought those sort of bugs would have been worked out by now.

We decided we'd give it another try in the future, but for now we prefer Wolfgang Puck's Express.

During peak lunch time (like today at noon), the line reaches near the door because there isn't enough of a queue. Seating is also very limited.

There were many people having to eat out on the benches by the fountain because there isn't enough seating.

Do they still have those awesome cookies like the place that used to be there had? I heard they were supposed to keep them there.

Well, common sense should've told the people with the salad to wait until the others got their sandwich so they could all eat together. At least that's what I always do when I order something that arrives before everything else. Just common courtesy to wait until everyone has their food before eating.

Or maybe that's just me...

Kinda surprised 2 people shared a sandwich because they're not huge like a footlong that I can remember. Or are their big versions & small versions? I honestly can't remember except that my Hawaiian BBQ was awesome and I wanted another as soon as I was done eating.

Since the place is popular and it's only been open a little over a month, given time the employees will know the "ropes" more and things should go more smoothly. I didn't see any real problems when I was there last month except that it was lunchtime and it was busy as a result.

If the guests were from the UK I can understand them sharing a sandwich! Your portions are HUGE compared to ours! Americans must think we eat like mice!

Can't wait to try Earl Of Sandwich on my next trip

BTW The cookies are still about, they are in Goofys Candy Store

We went only a couple of days after it opened. This is a great place to eat! I had the Hawaiian BBQ sandwich. Sure could go for one now. Maybe it would help me get over the frozen snow-like substance that is currently falling from the sky.:(
