Dwarfs Roller Coaster Speed

Like the DLP Casey Jr. attraction YouTubed above, the concept art shows this as a ground coaster. In a sense Big Thunder Mountain is also a ground coaster, but it has lift hills disguised as real mountains. The draw of BTM is not so much the speed or thrills as the themed environment you experience as you travel. I'd be happy with a Dwarves coaster that has wide range of speeds to let you slow and experience your surrounding and then race you through the 'dangerous' places. Remember, thrills are not just physical, but also perceptual.

Snow White Cottage

I've seen somewhere on here the Snow White cottage would be the exit for the ride, but is that confirmed? Is it possible that it could also be a Snow White M&G?

More Than likely.

Lee posted the track layout on another thread, and it shows an exit by the cottage. Unfortunately, this may also be a gift shop.

On a separate note, between Barnstormer and BTM is a perfectly fine ride to get some thrills in for everyone. That's faster than Space Mountain, I do believe. Nothing to complain about here, unless you were expecting something to match BTM, and I don't think anyone was.

Wow i always thought space was faster, i guess it just feels that way to me because of the darkness and not being able to see things pass by to give a reference to.

Well Big Thunder has a top speed of around 30mph and Barnstormer has a top speed of 20mph so i guess we can expect roughly 25mph?

You know what, looking it up, Space's max is 28 mph. So it might end up a tad faster than this is.

I'm not sure how often Space is at that speed because it doesn't have banked turns, but the same can probably be said for this and its show scenes, I'm guessing.

But, yes, Space seems faster than it is because of the blackness.

Raven, do you know how long the track is in comparison to say... BTM?

I posted this already in another thread, but here's some info about track lengths. These are my best estimates based off of scaled plans. I know the numbers are in the ballpark (and are definitely proportionate to one another). I would certainly appreciate any insider info, as I'm just working with what's publicly available. Here's the original post:

When I scale the plans in CAD, I'm getting the following lengths:

Little Mermaid
Track: ~660 ft
Standby Queue: ~1200'
Fastpass Queue: ~400'

Seven Dwarfs' Mine Train:
Track: ~2050 ft
Standby Queue: ~870'
Fastpass Queue: ~370'

These lengths are approximate, as the scale might be somewhat off. I triple-checked the scale using scaled aerials and Google Earth's ruler tool, but those are crude methods for doing that (though I know I'm close). Too bad the leaked blueprints didn't include a graphic scale.

Anyways, just for reference, Barnstormer's track length is 780' and BTMRR's track length is 2780'. So for Dwarf's Mine, we're looking at something in between (which is what the insider's have been telling us for months).

Here's a diagram for what I was measuring. Light orange is standby, dark orange is fastpass, red is combined queues and load, purple is unload and exit.

Also, for those of you who are wondering, I got the LM track layout from a photo of the layout in the DCA Blue Sky Cellar. The Dwarfs' Mine layout is from Lee. I overlaid and redrew both layouts on the leaked blueprints to calculate the track lengths.

I'm sure I'm not the only person to respond to this (having not yet read the thread) but. . .

Since when? That's not the point or purpose of Fantasyland. Disney World should appeal to all ages, Fantasyland included, and that is the intention.

Tell me: what land will you find the Matterhorn in when you go to Disneyland? What land will you find the Haunted Mansion in when you go to Tokyo? How much of a "kiddy" attraction was 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea?

This has little to do with my feelings on the Dwarfs coaster. It just has to do with the idea that Fantasyland "should be all about the kiddies" is very, very, very wrong. It's not a kids land, it's a land in a theme park dreamed up by a man who wanted a place where he and his two daughters could have fun together, instead of himself just watching. The theme of that land happens to work pretty well with rides that are more in tune with young'ns than some other areas of the park, but that does not mean Fantasyland needs a narrow view as the "kids land" of the park.

Yes, I stand corrected - you are absolutely correct. I love IASW and Pooh probably as much as son does. I was saying that intending to mean that the ride should be accessible to young children as well (with a height limit close to what Barnstormer has give or take a couple of inches and not what Space Mountain has). I realize this limits the "thrill" factor, but from what I am gathering, it is the themeing that will give this expansion the "wow" factor once it is completed.

If this thing is exactlly like casey jones train, I will be done with Disney. I seriously will quit coming to disney and not renew my annual pass. This thing better blow people away and have a wow factor, because listen I work at Universal (I know i feel like a spy) and all people talk about is the forbidden journey and this and that. From kids to adults. I mean it really sends them home talking about it. That's what disney use to do. All I can say is that the more and more I hear about Potter the more excited I get and start thinking Disney will up there game. I guess we will have to wait and see.

When will Disney realize that Walt Disney World isnt just for little kids anymore? I would take a Hollywood studios expansion over this anyway

This post wins the thread.

Unfortunately Disney does not understand the "teen" demo. Ah who cares they'll be at Universal anyway spending their money.

Yes because only 10 year old like Snow White. I like how one person says its targetted at 10 year olds and everyone runs with it.

Fantasyland is for the young and young at heart. If you think going on a Snow White ride is for kids under 10, then I wouldn't doubt you think all animated movies are for little kids.

And I don't think DLP's Casey Jr. will have any influence on this ride- at all.

^ Lmao. I would ride the Casey Jones train. :) It should have been built years ago, when they had that Turtles show at MGM! Talk about being late to the party, Disney!

I'm actually more concerned with substance over speed. I hope it's more than a coaster through some dark tunnels. But the concept art looks as though the mines will be pretty cool inside, and hopefully there will be some parts that slow down with elaborate scenes.

Too many people are too easily jumping to conclusions about a ride that is still 2 years in the future. Give it a chance, I'm sure Disney is considering the general audience that will be attending FLE.

As for it not being a "thrill" ride and Disney not aiming things for a "teenage" audience, that is not the point the of Disney. I understand it is supposed to be geared towards everyone, Disney is for families, and if family members regardless of whether their 5 or 13 (the age of being "too cool" for just about everything) or 23 or 43 they should be able to have fun with their family at the most magical place on earth in a land where you are enveloped in a story of any sort.
