DW on New Years Eve?

Does anyone know what all the parks do on New Years Eve? I'm looking at the park hours now, and it's saying nothing special is going on…. I can't believe that  Magic Kingdom is closing right at 12, Hollywood Studios at 2, Epcot at 1, and Animal Kingdom at 7.

Has anyone been there on New Years Eve? Are there any special fireworks or parades in any of the parks? Thanks!

All of the parks except AK do special fireworks shows, including DHS. There are many special dinners of course. Perhaps allears.net may have some information for you on that. MK is crazy crowded, and so is EPCOT. DHS performs Fantasmic! 3 times that night as well as the Lights! Camera! New Years Eve fireworks at midnight.:)

This helped so much! I'll think about going to DHS. Thank you! :)

I've been to the magic Kingdom twice on new Years eve and the fireworks are amazing!!! It is not the regular fireworks show.. they do a 360 degrees fireworks show including a countdown to new years in fireworks and from what I recall theres a DJ to play music all afterwards. Be prepared though... the crowds are intense!! I'm talking make sure you dont lose someone in your party intense, and for some reason people get really angry and worked up around the time for fireworks.. its alot of fun but if you have someone who won't handle a situation like that well maybe choose a different park

I will check that out! thanks :)

It's really amazing. it's from about 7:30 until 12:30ish. You get to see the fireworks at 8:30 and midnight from the Contemporary's observation deck, there is open call bar and more fancy food than I could name and they had casino games to win raffle tickets for gift baskets.
The down side? It was $575 a person last year and has gone up $25 every year and it usually sells out early.

I did NYE at WDW for the first time last year and had a blast. I'll break down for you what we did (sorry that it's long):

December 30th- we drove up from Miami, checked in at Pop, then headed to DHS. We felt like having a drink at 50s Prime Time so that was a bit of spontaneity haha. We also loved the hazelnut hot chocolate from the Streets of America. When we realized we weren't going to wait in any lines for rides, we headed over to MK. The weather was nice and chilly. It was definitely PACKED. We didn't really expect to ride much (but we did...I will explain). We met up with friends and when the fireworks were about to go off a bunch of CM's were directing us to a backstage area to actually sit down and watch the fireworks. It was very strange, but cool. They had a DJ back there and some stands set up. After the fireworks (amazing btw), we headed to Tomorrowland. I think we got FP's for Buzz, or we waited because there wasn't much of a wait. Then we headed to New Fantasyland and there was a short wait for Little Mermaid so we took advantage. Then, because we never do, we rode the carousel. Then we headed to the front of the castle where they had a DJ and a "countdown" to NYE party going on. So much fun, we didn't want to leave lol.

NYE: Woke up early-ish and headed to AK. It was around 10-11 and we FP'ed EE and rode Dinosaur with no wait. Then headed to KS where we got a FP for half an hour later and got a drink in the meantime. Once we finished, it was on to Epcot. Wow was it packed. There were people all over! I got food from Mexico and met my sister and her husband at China where they managed to find somewhere to eat our lunch. Then we just walked around and didn't do much. Come nightfall, the parties started...as well as the long lines at the bathroom. We spent the majority of the time at the American Adventure and the lines at Liberty Inn were literally 45 min-1 hour long. They finally opened up some bathroom trailers behind the scenes which helped somewhat. Anyway, I loved the music being played in the US, because it was oldies, Latin music, and contemporary. A little bit of everything which I loved. If you don't like that, my sis and her hubby went to Italy where it felt like a real club. I headed back to the US because I wasn't into the music.

We saw the fireworks (which were behind schedule) and it was very nice and crazy how much pyro was used! After midnight we stayed a little bit longer then strolled out leisurely.

I'd definitely recommend it. Just don't go expecting to ride much and just enjoy the atmosphere! TT was at 5 hours that night! So yeah we got lucky to ride what we did during the trip lol

Have fun!

Ooooohhh  Now I'm starting to lean towards that… the only thing that would keep me from going is my family isn't patient at all lol. The 360 degree fireworks sound like so much fun! Thanks for the info, it really helps!

$575 per person? We definitely can't do that now, but it sounds really cool. Nice to know maybe for down the road! Thank you again!

It's good to hear other people's stories, so don't be sorry! It sounds like you had fun. I'm sure everywhere was packed. That was nice of those cast members letting you to a backstage area and the countdown thing sounds like fun. Epcot must have been CRAZY! I'm definitely keeping everyone's comments in mind while planning this trip. It's going to be hard picking where to go, but this helps a lot so thank you!

We did NYE at DHS when it was still MGM back in 07-08. The water tower got painted on 1/1/08 to reflect DHS. Anyways, the fireworks show at DHS was absolutely amazing. It looked like Mickey's Sorcerer hat was on fire! The music, crowd, live entertainment, etc. were all great at DHS. This was also my first trip ever to WDW so everything was extra special for me that trip. I had just turned 30 and got to experience one of the best things I had ever experienced up to that point.

First trip is always the best one! Well so far on our planning chart, we have DHS down for NYE because it has Magic Hours until 2am. We're doing some more research, but we are either going with DHS or Magic Kingdom if my family can handle the crowds there.
You said the crowd was great, so does that mean it wasn't so busy in DHS?

It was packed all day but I really had nothing to compare it to then because every park was so crowded that week. We arrived on 12-27 and left on 1-2. We head back to WDW in 7 days for 8 days and I am sure the crowd levels will be much the same next week as they were that week of my first trip.

Okay good to know. That's funny because we are arriving on 12-27 like you did, but we are leaving 1-4. Wow, you leave in a week, time to start packing! Have so much fun! :D

We are checking in 12/27 at POR, but for NYE we are hitting DHS. My best friend and her family went there last year for NYE and loved every minute of it they said that the kids danced in the streets to the music and everyone just kind of hangs out and parties and that's what we want to do. I really like the fact that it isn't too packed to let the kids enjoy the music and all of the sights that are going on. When the fireworks are over my parents are taking the kids to the room and we are riding until 2...hopefully if we can with the crowds.

We were going to go to DHS, but now my family wants to change our reservations to 12/1-12/9, so now I'm not even going to be there on NYE…. lol :(
