DVC How big is too big?

Is a two bedroom at SSR just too big for two people.

We leave in a few weeks for a week in a two bedroom at SSR. It is our first time at SSR, but have been to BWV, BCV, OKW, VWL and DVB in everything from studios to two bedrooms.
On this trip, the couple going with us, and the reason for a two bedroom, may not be able to go at the last minute, or have to leave immediately following check in. So it could wind up being just the two of us in the two bedroom. We could invite another couple, or just wind up with too much space and an empty studio unit for a week, which seems like a terrible shame. This will be an anniversary trip for us, so wife and I will be enjoying the one bedroom side and going out to eat and over to DTD often.
Would a two bedroom at SSR just be too big?
Any chance of finding another couple or small family who could travel at the very last minute who might want the studio unit fairly cheap if it becomes available and how would I advertise it at the last minute?

I can see no reason that two people would ever need a two-bedroom unit. You would only gain additional sleeping space going from a one-bedroom to a two-bedroom.

If it is two couples then I completely recommend getting a one bedroom. You will have a king size bedroom and queen pullout. The pullout is beyond comfortable (what I end up on during family trips) and will definitely suit the sleepers.

I would throw down the gauntlet on the couple going with you to know 100% before the 30 day window hits so that you can alter reservations accordingly.

Can't make them say definitively because it is a matter of a sick family member whose future is uncertain.
Could not say "family or Disney make a choice now." If something bad happens right away, they could certainly use the time away in a few weeks. If the timing is different, they simply could not go at all.

A 2BR is useless for one couple. There is no advantage of a 2BR over a 1BR. You have a number of ways this can play out

1) Book the 2BR and the other couple can make it.

2) Book the 2BR and if the other couple cannot, and gives you enough lead time, try to switch to a 1BR. You may want to try and reserve a lock off (as opposed to a dedicated 2BR) to make this easier. Your points may go into reserved status depending on when you revise your reservation, but it is better than nothing.

3) DIscuss with the other couple exactly what their changing of plans will do, and then see if they (and you) would be OK with a 1BR. They can sleep on the pull out if they can go, and if they have to cancel - well then it is just a 1BR.

I would not say a 2 bedroom is totally useless. My wife and I a few years back had booked a week at all-stars, we usually do moderates, and got an email from Disney stating we had been upgraded to SSR studio and to call right away to claim it. Well we thought it was a come on for getting into the DVC and we would have to sit through a seminar or such. When I called I was assured no such thing they were just upgrading us so we could see what a deluxe resort was like and maybe the next time we would book a deluxe instead. Well to make a long story short when we checked in we were upgraded from the Studio to a 2 bedroom without even asking. Yes, it was way bigger than we needed but we totally loved it. We have stayed at Wilderness Villas and BLT and my wife loves Saratoga better. And yes once we got there and found out we had a 2 BR we tried to get some people to come down but no luck. I say just enjoy it.

Thanks everyone for the good advice.
The two bedroom is already booked and whatever happens, things will work out fine.
I am just a bit frugal and don't like the idea of the other room going unused.
We will enjoy it either way. I can just picture me fretting over the room possibly going unused.

What are your return plans like to get back to WDW?

You can call member services and change from a 2 BR to a 1 BR and put the points in a holding account, the problem is that you have to use them. You could then rent the points out if you would not be able to use them in time and at least get something back.

Another option would be to change resorts and see if you can get a 1 bedroom @ BLT W/ MK view. This would eat up most of the points used for the 2 bedroom @ SSR, but you may have a better chance of wimming the mega lottery 2 weeks in a row. This may not be your best option since you want to eat @ DTD often.

I would really say that it is a waste to have the 2 BR. To have the separate studio room attached is really not a plus for a couple unless you want to spend you anniverary in separate bedrooms which I doubt.:p

I would consider it sort of a wasteful use of points for two people, but you'll have lots of room! We had sort of the same issue for our November trip, but booked the one-bedroom at OKW, which has both the sleeper chair and sofa, so we're covered.
