Due to ACA, Disney World Will Promote Its Part-Time Workers To Full-Time Status

Call my cynical, but I doubt that Disney is doing this out of the goodness of their corporate heart. What benefit does Disney get from this?

Good PR for us Yankees to cross the Mason Dixon line. Also to rub it in the face of that one anti gay group that flies their banner during gay days.

There are many companies cutting back on part time hours because of the Obamacare, and a lot of people have lost their medical insurance and now are paying for it themselves if they can!.

Its great to see Disney at least making a effort to keep valued CM, more then any of the other area parks are doing. I am sure they would be singing to the roof tops if they were.

Again, Disney is NOT doing that. They are very actively, more than ever before, making sure everyone stays low on the amount of hours they work.

I'm pleased that I proved all the naysayers wrong on the first page who said this thread was going to be closed.
MOM has been running around with the wooden spoon on a frequent basis. If it wasn't for "kids" yelling "MOM!!!", this thread would have been closed long ago. It is a shame that we cannot discuss the financial implications of this new entitlement on the operations of WDW.

While it may look good in theory, I cannot see too many of the shareholders pleased by this decision.

As stated above, this is 0.6% of the work force. They could have offered each of these people a million dollars and it would have been a blip on the radar to the shareholders. This is a PR move so as not to have a negative human interest story run on the news (in addition to being the right thing for the company to do for the CMs.)

I'm more inclined to believe these are 427 people who are protected somehow from having their hours cut to below 30 per week.

BINGO. This a special group. There are thousands of P/T CM's at WDW. If a P/T CM works for more than 24 hours a week on a 6 month rolling average, that CM is categorized as "Over-utilized" and can no longer work more than 24 hrs a week until the 6 month rolling average falls below 24. Also, working 24 hrs or more for 13 weeks in a row will result in instant over-utilization.

You have to remember that Disney has many level s and jobs. Some categories' may indeed being kept at less then 30.

My point is that at least they moved some people up to full time and keeping benefits. These are likely good workers and being rewarded.

A couple I know at WDW has said they are keeping a eye on hours of part timers, but many of those folks don't want the extra hours in the first place.

My overall compliant are the many companies that are moving people to below 30 hours just to not have to pay benefits under the new Obamacare.

PS. Happy you are talking to me again! I OVE A GOOD DEBATE!;)
