DTD West Side bus stop?

I know this happened awhile ago, but I have always thought about it. Why did the west side bust stop close? It was great if you were going to La Nouba and staying at a resort you could just walk out and get on a bus instead of walking all of DTD.

I've heard two reasons...

The first reason was the standard cost-cutting one--trying to stretch Disney's fleet across the Resort without having to make new transportation investments.

The other was that the bus system was overtaxed, so in the final analysis, the West Side stop was considered to have less of an impact since not very many people used it except around La Nouba performances.

However, I don't know for sure that either one of these explanations is the true one!

I was kind of glad they got rid of the WS bus stop. If you got on at the Marketplace, it was just one more stop to sit through. It isn't that much farther to walk to PI anyway. I can see how it would be inconvenient for the La Nouba guests though.

When we were there last july the W.S. stop had gone and there is now a shuttle boat, one of the older green boats from the POR/FQ-->DD water taxi. The shuttle runs from 4pm onward unless for some reason there is a problem.

The landing at the West Side along with that at the marketplace have both been redone up in the last couple of years.

i really liked the WS bus stops! it was really nice to get off there in the afternoon and make our way to MP for some nighttime shopping. since it's closed, it just throws everything off...especially for the trip i'm about to make! we want to go to MP and WS but end up at PI at night. so i suppose we can get off at MP, shop there, go through PI, walk to the end of WS, then make our way back toward PI and hope we make it by the time it opens. i dunno, maybe it's no big deal to anyone else, but it just sounds more complicated to me. it'll work out for us, though, i'm sure!
anyway, the WS stop was my favorite of the DTD stops...it just looked so cool and kinda retro! and i didn't mind it being one more stop...it just meant more rest for my feet! :)

I was just there last week and stayed at AS Sports and their was a bus to DTD Westside. It let us off right by Planet Hollywood.

That's actually the Pleasure Island bus stop. The West Side bus stop is beyond Cirque du Soleil.

The WS stop was *NEVER* busy with the exception of when Cirque let out. It was also a hassle, because it was hard to make sure buses went to all three, and didn't fill up at PI.

Ultimatly, the reason why it closed is not cost-cutting. It was actually a contractual deal with Planet Hollywood.

Actually, the walk from the PI bus stop to DTD WS really isnt that bad. To be completely honest with you, I just got back last month and didnt even realize the bus stop was gone. My friends and I used to get off at PI anyway. We like checking out the shops on the way in (which is probably another reason disney cut off the direct to cirque transportation. )

Like someone else mentioned...why can't they just stop there from 10 minutes before Cirque lets out til closing of West Side? (although...the answer would lie in the contractual situation with Pleasure Island as Tyler stated)

Excellent thought. Its just like a Vegas Casino. If you make it hard to get out and put all kinds of opportunities to spend your money, you problably will!
