Drowning at Disney Resort Pool

This is tragic.

I am sure it will spur some "Are Disneys pools safe?" discussions.

I was thinking the same thing. Of course Disney's gonna get the usual bad publicity, but this could happen in any pool, at any time.

Damn. I stayed at Coronado just last March and indeed swam in the Temple Pool at least twice.
Swimming pools are serious business kids...

Thats horrible. My condolences to the family.

It doesn't look good for Disney, that's true, but then again, like some people have said, with the number of people on Disney property everday, you must expect that things will happen. People will die, people will be born. These things happen all the time, they aren't going to stop just because you're in Disney World.

My sympathies are with the persons family and friends, this is not an easy time for them.

As to your post, the fact of the matter is people have a tendancy to not live forever. While this is very unfortunate it is a fact of life that we all must deal with. Things happen in this world that are tragic and sad. But why must someone always be at fault when such instances occurr? Why do we always have to blame someone or something when these things happen?

Because sometimes it IS someone's fault. Yes, it's tragic and sad. But, I think Hatter is just looking for a rational explanation so it could be prevented next time, rather than just accept the notion that stitch happens.

My prayers go out to the family that they find strength to get through this tragedy.

I am wondering if a follow-up story to the accident was written? Maybe that will have some more clues as to what happened. I've stayed at the Coranado Springs in 1999 and enjoyed the private pools near our room location and the big Temple pool with the slide. From what I remember it was only 3-4 feet deep at most. Its sad that this happened, but I don't see where blame could be placed. I think someone else said it best earlier. If you decide to swim when the lifeguards are off-duty, then bring a buddy. That way if one is having trouble in the water, the other can get help, or provide help.

Yes, I agree. Look, the pools are all swim at your own risk. The minute Disney puts up signs saying swimming only during restricted hours, some kids will jump the fence and promptly get caught in a filter or some other horrible thing. Then, Disney would get sued for not adequately securing the premises. Disney's got it right. 24/7 swimming, swim at own risk while no guard on duty. In that case, "fault" or "blame," if any, rests with the parents or guardians of the swimmers, or, heaven forbid, themselves. There are enough lawsuits to deal with--and this coming from a lawyer, myself. Besides, it's nice swimming at night without big brother watching.

No, actually the post I was referring to was basically saying the lifeguards should have, or could have prevented it. By the way a rational explanation for this could very well be that they died of natural causes. I was merely stating the fact that whenever something happens that people don;t like they immediately try to put the blame on someone. I have never understood the blame anyone or anything, but me logic, and never will.

Yep. I don't think you and I disagree on this. I "blame" Hatter. :animwink:
