Drone over DCA

@GMRO , is this the same situation as the drone vids I posted on the cruise board? No time to watch just now. I find it interesting these things are surfacing. Looks like Disney may need to address these sooner than later. ;)

Wow! That's amazing. The guy launches this thing from the Downtown Disney auxiliary parking lot behind the Paradise Pier Hotel. Gutsy!

But then, according to the date on the video this was taken during Easter Vacation and they had parked that auxiliary lot for theme park guests. So it was busy and he wouldn't have attracted any attention from the parking staff because that lot was already full of cars and people. I'm sure this is all sorts of illegal, but it's a fun video to watch!

SP,

YES! This is what I'm talking/concerned about. Likely this was the SAME type of $1K flying model - including GoPro hanging underneath. See how they just FLY over major roadways without any cause for concern??? Disney will soon be on the watch. I can not see them at all allowing this type of unauthorized flying of R/C models.

Think what happens when the model goes out of control and hits a mini-van in the windshield as they are on Disney property.

YES these models are becoming a problem as more and more folks think "it's cool" to get their own personal airborne video.

WE have always been able to do this...that is get aerial video and pics from an airborne R/C model. BUT those of us who know better don't unless you have permission and the insurance to do so safely. Before these types, actually known as "quads" or "multi-rotors", of self-leveling models with GPS capabilities became more available and less costly WE had less problems. Now it's a free-for-all.

It's a recipe for disaster. That's why I say - "nothing good will come of this..." for anyone. Innocent bystanders or vacationers or anyone are at risk if the person flying makes poor judgements and flys in a public place and loses control. Control can be lost for many many reasons. This is what the person guiding the model is not thinking about. They are not pilots. Pilots don't take risks like these in populated or commercial areas/properties PERIOD.

Thanks for the tag-info... ;)

My DH and I saw a drone at DW just a few weeks ago on our vacation flying near the Boardwalk and Swan/Dolphin hotels. There were staff coming out to look on their walkie talkies...they were NOT happy about that being there at all.
