Driving to the parks instead of using the Disney Bus?

We've always waited for the busses on the resorts and never had too big of a problem (pop century was a piece of cake last year)...but...this year we are in Art of Animation with a std room...and since that wing is so out of the way of the bus pickup (with such close parking to that wing) I was wondering if it would save a significant amount of time to just hop in the van and drive to the parks? I've never driven to any of the parks so honestly I dont know how far away the lots are and how long it takes to get to the front door etc. Any advice would be appreciated...i'm not against walking, but if it saves me 40 minutes a day in waiting thats pretty awesome.

We've had horrible experiences with the buses such that we only a car now. Yes the buses can be fine, but they can also be a nightmare and if it happens at night when you are trying to get cranky kids back to a hotel then it really isn't worth the cost savings.

If you do use your car I suggest you snag a AAA parking pass, they are very nice because then you will be parking close enough that you wont ever need those parking lot shuttles. Without them you can sometimes find waiting for shuttle to be a pain.

I guess everyone has their own concept of what is "convenient," and that's fine. For us, after a long day in the parks, it is far more convenient to jump in our own car and be back at our resort 5 minutes later rather than wait on line for up to a half hour and possibly stand on a crowded bus sometimes making multiple stops.
Well we don't usually have to wait that long as we usually duck out before close. Although we did wait a while in July at dhs for a ride for no apparent reason other than our timing was bad.

We take the bus. Usually we fly and just depend on the buses. This year we are driving but we will still bus it. My husband likes to park and not drive again until it's time to leave. We don't mind waiting for the buses, it's part of the fun for us.:D

Wow. Its just really hard to imagine waiting in a 1000 person throng of sweaty, screaming, shoving, cell phone talking people as being "fun". o_O Don't get me wrong, if you don't mind it, or hopefully never dealt with that, then awesome. I just see the crowds of sweaty, screaming, tired, irritable people scrambling for the buses and ferrys and monorails at the end of the evenings and thank God that I only have to hitch a ride to the TTC to get my rental. Or better yet, when at the other parks, just walk to my car parked in the Diamond Parking.

I'm actually in the process now of trying to get one of these off of EBay. I'll let you all know how I make out. Would totally be worth it for a few bucks.

Won a AAA pass on Ebay. $1.54 total cost.
So, I won't feel too bad if it turns out to not work. At worst I'm out less that two bucks, and I'll have to park a few rows further back. Should have it in about a week, then it's in my Disney file until December.

We personally prefer the buses. E have driven to a park on our last day just to take off to the airport quickly afterwards and we are always annoyed by finding the car, walking to it, waiting for the AC to kick up, and of course paying like $15 or whatever is it to park!!!

Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't the AA Parking Lot a lot closer but also further removed towards the west away from the Main entrance?

I have also heard that there are no trams so what you gain in being further north you lose in being further west and still have to walk.

If you're staying onsite, there's no parking fee. They should give you a parking pass when you check in.

The buses waste about 30 min. regardless of where you go...a rental car for the week is like $250 down there from AVIS...since parking is all free when you're on-site you can get around much quicker than the buses would...

that and god forbid you get stuck on that one bus with the brazilian tour group...

Parking is free for hotel guests.
