Driving or flying?

Ok so i think my first trip spoiled me with flying..but the second trip is going to be a shorter stay at 5 days instead of 7. The larger part of our party My sister in laws group is 4 adults and 4 kids with a possible stay at fort wilderness campground as that was the best price. When i had the numbers ran by KK today, it turns out that for 50 dollars less then a Cabin at FT wilderness we could have a 5 day stay at Wilderness Lodge! Now after staying at POP the thought of a Deluxe made my eyes sparkle. Do you think the possibility of having to drive this time ( 24 hours and 49 minutes to the gate) is worth staying at Wilderness lodge? Well if i can talk the wife into it of course shes leaning towards the cabin, even thought its more expensive.

We are driving next year - there was no way to afford the flight this year. If we get free dining then we will upgrade to deluxe. I love the cabins though and there are so many things they have that a regular room does not.

ITs only like a 50 dollar difference between the cabins and the Deluxe, if we stay in a cabin at FT wilderness we will all be at FT wilderness, if we go to Wilderness lodge the rest of the family will be just that path way walk away.... As much as i love family, i also love the idea of a Deluxe, we cut our stay from 7 to 5 to make it fair, as they are only getting to go for 5 days, so were trying to see if we should drive with them as well...decisions decisions!

My thinking is always the same.

Drive down - EPIC
Drive home - AGONY
Ive only driven once on a long distance to another park in Williamsburg VA where we left at 4pm Saturday and got there at 8am Sunday....i drove straight with no stops....i really don't know if im willing to do that again and add 10 hours to it.

I feel I know of this park that you speak of. Is this park voted the World's Most Beautiful twentytwo years running?

Our max is usually about 14 hours before everyone gets grumpy and we need overnight to stretch out and recharge. However, you'll find several on these threads who almost seem to enjoy the 20-hour plus drive.

It would probally be cheaper this time for us to drive, and just rent a minivan or SUV from Budget, unlimited miles etc, just trying to figure it out. Wed all take 2 cars, i love my nieces and nephews way too much to lock myself in a car with them for 24 hours ;) it would be my wife, her mother me and our 13 yr old...

Hehe! We had a blast there a few years ago visiting the past and the water park as well ;) but were sold on Disney for sure! maybe as a compromise i can agree to drive if the wife lets me have the deluxe resort! Something to look forward to.

We made MANY trips to Kings dominion and Bush Gardens in Virginia, since they're only 21/2 3 hours away from us! But, I would go to Disney anytime in a heartbeat, and I'd fly, but 14 hour drive is OK when the air fares are so expensive!:( But now gas prices are creeping up again!:(

Thats what i need to figure out the price break down, wed park the car once we got there and take the busses or boat, but i think what its going to take is a price breakdown of this is how much it costs to fly, and this is how much to drive...I know i punched in to map quest for a 12 mph vehicle ( trying to count for the worst possible car) and it was 500 bucks each way in gas alone.. I think it was like 900 for us to fly last time, id have to look at my sheets again, but to me a 4 hour trip by air is better then a almost 25 hour trip by land...

Maina, I'm w/ you. I'm not sure I could do a 25 hour drive! I mean, I'd have to sleep overnight somewhere on I-95, and I'd be too anxious to do that!;)

me 2. I did it all the way to Virgina which is 14.5 hours from here to there, and if you have ever seen the movie Borat...i was soo tired i was quoting it, i had my wife thought i had gone crazy....little did she know i am already crazy :) if i could have someone else to drive for say 10 hours im sure wed be fine.... I just like the convenience of getting on a plane taking a nap, switching planes taking a nap and being at the world!

For me I hate long trips going down the road, it is between 900 and 1000 miles for us. The last time we went in 2010 we flew and boy; two hours was the greatest thing for me anyway. To be fair it is just me and my wife but the cost of flying with the kids when they were still living at home would be to great and I would have to drive. I not a big fan of flying but the rewards of not being tired when we get there outweighs the apprehension of flying.

Were are about 600 miles and always drive. I enjoy it and think of it as part of the fun to be able to see some of the country that we don't see on a regular basis. One tradition we have is to always stop at the Florida Welcome Center to get the free cup of orange juice and paper map. Another bonus of the drive is to be able to haul snacks, bottled water and adult beverages. While everyone else is paying 5 or 6 dollars for a cold one, you can be popping the top at 75 cents a can!
