Driving from Indianapolis, Indiana

Well it looks like airfare will not be dropping for our mid-October trip so we will be driving this year. Map Quest says 16 hours but that doesn't take into account the weak bladders in my family :).

Couple of question to you traveling experts:

1) Is it common for airfare to drop at all when you are only 20 days out or are the lowest fares gone for good? We are not able to be flexible with our dates so we're stuck with a Sat / Sat travel days.

2) If it ends up being a road trip from Indy; where is a good stopping point in the trip to only have about 4 hours left after a lay over after the first day of driving?

Thanks to all that can provide any guidance for a first time road trip to the most wonderful place in the world!!!

We can fly out either the 19th or 20th and must come back on the 27th. If you know of any deals we would greatly appreciate the info - I think I'm on every airline alert out there - LOL

Bing is a good site to search fares and will also let you know if you should buy now or wait. I think we waited too long and missed our window so I would suggest that if you find a deal you are comfortable with - do it.

Yes; we had $240 round trip about 2 weeks ago and messed around and when we went to book they were gone. There is three of us flying so we need to be around $250 RT per per person or it will be lots of books on tape for us this year.

That's what we've been finding as well. We're keeping our fingers crossed that fares may drop again back to $240 RT before we have to leave. Airfare is crazy - it's up, it down, it up, it's down - can't figure it out. We are prepared to pack the Honda for a road trip if need be - whatever it takes to get to WDW!!!

I was looking at same thing as I am also from Indianapolis and I am thinking of driving next year in October when I go. Airfares have really gone up. I flew on Airtran RT in October 3 years ago for under $150 needless to say it has doubled.

As far as driving and a good rest stop when we used to drive to Florida with our parents we always ended up staying in Valdosta GA. It was about 4-6 hours away from WDW if I remember correctly.

Is that a Priceline deal? Can you specify the times you fly on the site? We don't won't to give up 2 days at the parks by flying in very late in the evenings and then flying out first thing in the morning when we leave. When I first started searching airfare the cheapest flights were those very late arrivals to MCO and very early departures from MCO. I'm sure they have a hard time filling those flights.
