I've been told that Fantasmic! will very soon start doing a rain show. The rain show will not feature any characters but will instead feature an all new soundtrack with music from Bambi, The Lion King and Mulan among others. It will feature pyro, fountains and lasers. The new show should run about 5 minutes and start in April.

At least now when they cancel the show due to rain, there will still be fireworks. It's great Guest Service!

That would be nice...but I don't know how succesful it would be in that theater. I hate having to sit there and 5 minutes before the show starts it begins to pour and they cancel. The only problem I see with that is that when it rains people will start getting up and leving making it tough to see what is going on. It might also make it a little bit of a safety hazard with a lot of people leaving and a lot people staying.

I can see doing Sorcery in the Sky when it rains... but Fantasmic? Ugh. No one wants to sit on wet and ice cold bleachers in the rain for a five minute show. lol.

Funny. Because they sit there now for 2 hours in the rain.

It'll be fine.

I think it'd work great! If you've sat there for two hours waiting in the rain... would you rather be told "sorry! show's cancelled! bye!" or "because of the rain, we can't show you Fantasmic, but we can show you this..." It's just good guest service.

Its better than being all mad that the shows canceled. Atleast this way you'll get to enjoy a brief show with less effects.

In my experience, Disney will prepare for it as if the show will go on, and they will wait until the last minute to make a decision. If they make the decision to cancel the show too early and then it stops raining, there will be a lot of guests upset because the show did not go on, even though it could have been possible. The only reason I could see them really not waiting to seat guests in there is if there was imminent lightning because that would be a safety hazard. But I know plenty of people, myself included, who have sat there in the rain waiting for Fantasmic (and then had it cancelled... that happened the one time my parents came to visit...)

Well since Disney has like weather detectors, they can detect to see if a storm is coming or not...So they should announce like 30 min. before that the show will be cancelled. But I think it would kind of weird to have just a firework show especially where Fantasmic is. I could see the "Sorcery in the Sky" happen, but not this...Good update though.

One of the things I dislike about Fantasmic is the whole theater thing...you have to wait there for two hours to make sure you have a seat to watch the show. Not only is this a bad thing from a guests perspective cause it takes time from other things you could be doing (or riding), but also from a business point of view, cause well, PEOPLE AIN'T SPENDING A LOT OF $$$$$ sitting and waiting for the show.

A rain show is nice for those who will miss out on the REAL show, but it makes me wonder if there will ever be a lake or river at the Studios where the show can take place easier (with more room) kinda like Illuminations and Fantasmic in DL...it would eliminate a lot of problems...and if the space is large enough allow for there to be one showing instead of two...I don't know....just some thoughts.

Yes, Disney has radar. We used it quite often when I was in Glow (in deciding whether to take Glow toys or ponchos, etc.) The thing is, it's not always 100% accurate. We all know this from seeing the weather reports on TV. What looks like a nasty rainstorm coming can dissipate or move in another direction quickly. So to cancel it that early would be jumping the gun, on the chance that the weather might cooperate. However, I think warnings that the show MAY be cancelled are definitely in order.

As to using Sorcery instead... that's an awfully big production to put on at the last minute. It would take a long time to set up - too long to be just a replacement show. And besides which it would be behind the guests. Since Fantasmic usually runs at the very end of the Studio's operating hours, trying to move all the guests to a place where they could see it would just not be feasible.

Obviously you haven't bought popcorn, cotton candy and light up glow toys for your children while waiting for the show to start!

Pyro has already been loaded onto the island prior to show time in the afternoon. It's not loaded into the Sorcery areas as no Sorcery show is planned. This is a rain show for guests--not an extra bonus.

We all know that announcements are made prior to show time about weather and we all know that every effort is made to present Fantasmic! but none the less, people, including myself, wait and hope. Now instead of just saying good night and get out, there is a little something for you. The soundtrack sounded very good and all of the Fantasmic! pyro will be blown off in the show. I fail to see how this is a bad thing?

Oh, and Fantasmic! is all about extra $$$! That's it's whole purpose...to get us to stay late and spend more money waiting.

That would work if WDW wasn't in Florida. Weather in Florida is so unpredictable. Imagine the mass of angry guests if the show was cancelled 30 minutes prior to showtime because of bad weather...now imagine how angry they would be when ten minutes later it completely stops raining for the rest of the evening. This is precisely why Disney waits until the last minute.

I was under the impression from some tech friends of mine that once the pyro is loaded it is there until it is launched. That means even if the show is canceled the pyro is still in the tubes and has to be launched for safety reasons that same night. It is not removed and returnd to storage for the next show.

In light of this, if Disney runs a 5 minute rain show that makes use of the pyro it is saving money. Typically, the pyro would be launched hours later in most cases (creating overtime for various CM's) after all the guests are long gone from the park so as not to have people thinking the show was taking place anyway.

I think this is a great idea. Always keeping the guests happy :sohappy:

From previous experience, I sat and waited for Fantasmic last year and it kept raining on and off leading up to the show. It was delayed by about 15 mins, but eventually it kicked off. It was raining lightly through most of the show but they didnt cancel.
