This is a nice gesture from Disney, the accountants arent going to like it though.

its pretty bad you have to literally have your home burn up into flames before Disney forgets about the all mighty dollar and does something nice

Dozens Displaced by Hotel Fire Given Shelter at Walt Disney World

Florida officials say dozens of people displaced by a hotel fire will spend the Christmas weekend at an Orlando-area theme park.

The fire Friday at Unno Boutique Hotel in Kissimmee left about 250 people without anywhere to stay.

Congressman-elect Darren Soto, D-Fla., tells the Orlando Sentinel that up to 60 families given shelter at Kissimmee Middle School will stay on Walt Disney World property through Monday.

Soto said rooms, meals and theme park tickets were donated to the families.

The cause of the blaze at the 130-room Kissimmee hotel remains under investigation. American Red Cross officials said 157 people slept at the school Friday night.

The school's shelter will remain open for a week. Toys, clothing, food, blankets and money have been donated for the displaced guests.

This fire was absolutely devastating for these families. It's heart warming to see so many folks step up to the plate to help these families. I'm at the Oceola Center on Aging right now covering the Christmas Day Meals on Wheels program, and they took to the lobby to show us how much stuff has been donated to the fire victims. They have a room chest deep in clothes and toys.

Disney did a very good thing. And I hope that a little Disney Magic can help these families have a happy Christmas in spite of the horrible situation.

As much as I appreciate you letting us know... was that second paragraph really necessary. Really, they do something nice and we must get snarky about it. What reason would they have for doing something like that unless a specific disaster happens. All that really says is that Disney is not as "greedy" as people like to make them out to be. When the need arises they are there with help. Can't we just say... Thanks Disney, for doing something that no one else did. Step up and help those in need? No we have to make it out like it is nothing short of a miracle when in reality they do this stuff all the time. Greedy SOB's that they are.

Well, I guess the Disney resort has a few vacancies over the holiday, since they can accommodate 60 families. I'm glad Disney did this, that was very generous.

Is your snarky reply any better than the snarky comment by the op? Your hypocrisy knows no bounds.

If you've ever wondered why people complain about the negativity of the Disney community, this is the best example yet of why. It reaffirms the sense that some people are incapable of anything but negative thought about Disney, and feel the need to spin everything they do in a negative light. Why isn't it possible to simply acknowledge a good thing they did for some folks experiencing tragedy and leave it at that?

The reason so much relief is being sought for these families is because they were not vacationers. These families were using the motel as a residence.

Yup. A number of the older motels along 192 a little away from the immediate Disney area have converted into low income housing. This is an example of that and these folks who had little to begin with lost everything they had and most have no insurance for their belongings.

Disney used this tragedy to gain some positive press out of it. This was not done as a gesture of kindness. If the end result allows the children and their families to have a better Christmas, thats wonderful. But dont fool yourself and think that whomever approved this did so out of love and kindness. They saw a tragedy and used it to their advantage.

TDO is filled with people who genuinely care for and love do their jobs and will bend over backwards to assist guests, engage in charitable activities, and be overall outstanding people. The cynicism expressed here in general is aimed at those in the corporate towers that do not value these qualities and are more interested in being superficial while squeezing people for all they have.

I wonder how many of these displaced people are employed by Disney

I was going to make yet another hypocritical, snarky statement, but, frankly you aren't worth it. It's Christmas and I prefer to not be a jerk. Have a happy day.

You've used this tragedy to somehow find yet another way to be negative and criticize Disney. You saw their generosity and used it to your advantage.

Unfortunately Disney is a business just like any other so aren't in the habit of just randomly giving hotel rooms and stays in their resorts away for free. I'm not quite sure in what circumstances you'd expect them to do something like this to be honest?

When they do it's almost then used to punish them by this statement. As a post by somebody else also shows, when they do something 'nice' we're told that they're doing it for publicity and not kindness or love which makes you wonder how they can win? There's a good chance that this 'charity' has been done partly (or fully) for publicity, however I've not seen proof of this provided? I'm sure the unfortunate families involved aren't really that worried why Disney are doing this however and just appreciate the help at this difficult time.

I often wonder why people seem to want to turn what appears to be something positive into a negative? Do Disney want to make lots of money and yet also appear to be seen as being a 'kind' and 'loving' company, or course they do (as do most companies). Does this mean that when they do what appears to be a decent thing it's definitely done for the wrong reason, well no not really!

It's all about opinions isn't it and everyone's entitled to theirs. It just seems sad however that when 'nice' things are done that they're somewhat diminished by these seemingly pointless claims and remarks that offer little but negativity to what is already a sad time to many with a little bit of relief offered for whatever ulterior reason.

I guess you probably think Mother Theresa spent her life helping others for the positive publicity as well. Nice job.

Exactly what advantage have I gained by pointing out the truth of how corporations never let a crisis go to waste?
