Downtown Disney changes

So what happened? Why are the Mc'ds being removed? Can you provide a link to another thread where this is being discussed?

My wife and I always enjoyed visiting DTD for our fry fix...and cheeseburger fix too. And we noted in the MK that the french fry wagon is gone too per our last 2 visits, May09 & Dec09. We always enjoyed fries there too.

During our "Key's" tour a while back they made the comment that there will always be a Mc'ds where ever a Disney park is... per the relationship between Walt and the Mc'd guy - can't remember his name. Something about when they were in the armed forces together - a pact? So that was just all part of the story?

What is this new place that is going to replace the DTD location? Personally I could care less for the T-rex place or Rainforest. Just high priced food with crummy quality.

We do like Earl of Sandwich too. Hope that one is not next to get evicted!

Huh?

I'll take fried plantains over mcD's fries anyday.

Never heard of the secret Disney/Kroc pact. Was the trilateral commission involved? :lookaroun

There's no current discussion going on, but if you do a search like this one you'll find there's been a few threads over the past year or two following the sequence of events indicating the dissolution of the relationship between Disney and McDonald's.

Unfortunately, your guide was full of Kroc, as there was never any McDonald's presence in the Disney parks until the late 1990s. There are even at least a couple of news threads on these very boards announcing the construction of a couple of the locations.

We do like Earl of Sandwich too. Hope that one is not next to get evicted!

I doubt that is going to happen, that was the very first Earl, and I'm sure they are much more interested in sticking around than McDonald's.

Guess we will have to try the fried plantains. Never had them. Hopefully they will be open in May2K10 when we go back home.

Guess the tour is filled with facts surrounded with a bit of story. Still entertaining though...

Thanks for the info, much appreciated!

I like McDonald's so, one less reason for me to visit DTD.

Still, go to Cross Roads a whole half mile away, and there's McDonald's, Taco Bell, TGI Fridays, Uno's, and handful of other great and BETTER PRICED restaurants.

DTD is the most unmagical place in WDW, imo. If you want McDonalds, drive or walk to Cross Roads and pay less for your food. Disney really does rip people off by adding a dollar or two to every item.

If only the all food prices were inflated by that much! Some stuff is really jacked up, price wise.

At this point, they should just shut the place down for 6 months and actually give us something worth visiting.

Although Raglan Road is an experience I would recommend to anyone. Great food and great entertainment.
