Downtown Disney bus question

I am almost positive you have to transfer to a hotel from DTD to get to a park. I get stuck doing that every year and it always takes alot of extra time. Now when I do this I usually just hop on the first bus I see at the DTD bus stop and then wait at that resort's bus stop for the next bus.

No, they don't go directly to the parks, as the previous poster said, you have to go to resort, wait for the bus that takes you to what park you want to go to in order to get from DTD to the parks.

Years ago there were direct buses between the parks and DD. But too many people parked for free in Downtown Disney, took up the convenient parking spaces making it more of a pain for those who actually wanted to SHOP there, and used the buses to get to the parks, all to avoid the parking fee.
So, they eliminated the buses sometime around 2001/2002.

Yet another example of "we can't have nice things..." because of a selfish subset of the population.

Im not sure but they may stop at the Water Parks. I remember having to stop at the Water Parks before coming home from DTD on my AKL trip.

This will depend on the resort, time of day, etc. During peak hours the Water parks will have a dedicated bus but the tend to get tacked on the the DTD routes later in the day.

Downtown Disney buses don't take you to the parks but you don't have to go back to your hotel, there's two other options, 1) you can always take one of the boats at DTD to one of those resorts then jump on a bus from there. (for example port orleans is right there)
2) if you're going to the mk or epcot you can take a bus to the polynesian or contemp and then take the monorail the rest of the way.

These options are only if you are staying at a disney resort

I just hope you're asking this because -

1) You're staying at a WDW resort and will be travelling to and from DTD by WDW transportation and you won't be leaving a car in the DTD car parks all day, or,

2) You're staying off property and will be leaving your car in your hotels car park and you won't be leaving a car in the DTD car parks all day.

I'm staying at AKL in september. Anybody know what time the resort buses start heading to Downtown Disney?

DD buses tend to start running from the resorts around 8:30-9AM, but I believe that most stores in DD don't open until 9:30AM. Some restaurants are open earlier, though.

It's 1. Im staying at Pop Century but trying to do some strategic planning, I will be about 6 months preg with my senior citizen parents in tow, I was hoping to skip a backtrack/step by going backwards to PC and adding more time to the trip to MK. As long as I have my PC room key would it be okay to take the bus to the Contemporary and monorail from there or is that just for Contemporary guests?

You can get on any bus or monorail you want! For all the driver knows, you've got an ADR at Chef Mickey's. KWIM? I've also never had a driver ask to see ID, either.

The monorail is for everyone. Enjoy! We usually do something similar and take the bus to the Beach Club so we can walk to Epcot after a morning downtown.
