Don't bash Cheerleaders, but...

I am a cheer gym owner and All Star Cheer coach, so the last thing I want is for this thread to become a cheer bashing thread.

I just wanted to warn those who are opposed to cheerleaders that there is a cheer competition this weekend at DWWOS on April 22 & 23. The squads are staying at ASsports. They will be arriving as early as Thursday (April 20) and leaving as late as Monday (April 24).

The squads are actually the older squads (no little ones) and they are quite frankly the best in the USA. It is the Cheerleading World Championships. There will also be some international squads.

PLEASE NO CHEER BASHING - I was trying to be nice by warning you.

I hope it goes well!

There are a lot of well mannerd cheer squads out there if you look hard enough for them and those are always welcome. If you focus on the good girls, then it's a bit easier to deal with the ones that try guest's patience.

Actually, last time I was down in WDW, I was in line for Splash Mountain on the upper part of the bridge over the line entrance and saw a elderly man stumble and fall. He was with an elderly woman who couldn't really do much to help him up. Anyway, as I watched from up above, I saw this cheer group of roughly 15 girls all get out of line, go over, help him up, and then escort both the man and the woman away towards the benches...

I just thought that was wonderful. Its those kind of good nice people that I try to focus on instead of the more difficult ones that give those girls a bad name.

To those types of girls and to their coaches, parents, and fans... WELCOME at any time!!!

Actually, we aren't competing, but I am going to watch. For those who know cheerleading, I am a former Georgia All Star Cheerleader and they will be competing.

I don't think there are any competitions in May. The competition seems to wind down around the end of April. There are usually quite a few from Feb - April.

I coach little girls cheerleading at the YMCA.

I wish there were some cheerleading competitions when I'm in WDW. Only well-behaved squads, though. I know that when I was in high school, if we acted the way that I've heard some of those squads do, we would *never* go on a trip again and we'd be doing toe-touches from now until next week. I'm sure GrowingUpDisney knows what I mean. ;)

That's still how it is..for me at least. We're facing 2 hours of jumps in the parking lot as soon as we get to Nationals because one cheerleader forgot to take out her earrings at practice...gotta love teamwork

My biggest problem when traveling was kids keeping curfew. I told them if I caught one of them out of their room after curfew, I was waking them all up to condition (outside). I didn't care what time.

I never had a problem after that.

I did send 2 girls back to the room one year at MK when they were saying inappropriate things to each other in line. They have to understand that Disney is a place for families and act accordingly.

Eh, cheerleaders are just like any group of... well, anyone.

No matter the age, race, gender, religion, nationality, activity, state, etc, there is always a dull witted person who makes the whole group look bad. Unfortunately, they are the ones that stick out in the minds of others.
(like the eldery "large" woman on an ECV, wearing something a cheerleader shouldn't wear, holding a stripped down to the diaper infant in teh hot florida sun chain smoking... I still shudder at that image).

Good luck to ya, and thanks for telling people here!

Pop warner championships are going to be December 3-9, 2006. I did my research before we booked our trip for 13 - 20 (hopefully they will be gone by then).

I was a cheerleader in HS, but not competitive. (just for the team sports, we didn't do competitive back then 1989.) I always feel a little justifed in making fun of them because I lived it.

Once about 8 years ago DH and got stuck in line with groups that keep chearing back and forth with each other. It was crazy and really bothersome. It happened all over the parks. I haven't seen this happen much in the past 3 years or so. (even doing cheer times in March.)

I used to belong to a youth group in HS that took a trip to FLA every Easter and spent a day at WDW. (normally MK) They were nuts, around 200 teenagers and they (we) were not very well behaved at all. One of my friends was the worst. I have smpathy for people having to put up with that. (I wasn't personaly bad, but my group was rather "wild" in a anoying but unharmful way, much like the cheering groups. )

How much do you guys think this will affect crowds? I'm a DL regular, and know what it would mean at DL, but at WDW, there's so much more room to spread out over, will it make things too bad?
