Donald Duck's Marathon Weekend

Ok, I'll make this short and sweet.

Stayed at Beach club

Went to ESPN WWoS for packet pickup on Thursday, and got corral A!

Ran lightly up until the Half Marathon on Saturday.

Sinus infection, upset stomache, puking at midnight before I had to get to starting line.

Great weather. Saw Al Roker, Meredith and Nathalie Morales from Today Show, and passed Al and Meredith. Nathalie somehow beat me, oh yeah, she's a tri-athlete :D.

Awsome start. Felt like I was feeling sick and dehydrated every step of the way. Magic Kingdom was amazing running throu, and saw my wife cheering me on.

Finished hard the last 2 miles and came in:

01:56:46, 2,490th place out of 21,953

It's 7 minutes longer than my best Half, but I took pics and was dealing with the sinus infection, so cut me some slack!

Pics to come...

I've been hearing quite a few reports of people catching something that was going around marathon weekend...lucky you bounced back and could run...know someone else who had to drop at 6 and spent the next day in her hotel room miserable...

Hate to hear that you got sick Nick. Luckily, you are a tough SOB and you ran anyway and successfully at that. Congrats.

Looking forward to the pics.

Getting sick before a race is awful. Sorry you had to deal with that. Glad you were still able to enjoy the event. Congrats!

Thanks everyone. The roaring crowds helped me get through it, especially seeing my wife at the end of Main Street in MK.

I just couldn't believe I got corral A. I was just a few people deep from the starting line and a perfect view of the stage.

Getting that Donald Duck medal meant the world to me. N2ow, I can focus on the ultra, and signing up for the 2012 Goofy Challenge when it opens in March :D.

congrats on your race! From your training reports, you certainly deserve a spot in Corral A.

Hey thanks for that! Corral A is hardcore elite. I admit I was intimidated, but I attempted to look and act the part; got my gear, my logged mileage, and I look like a "runner," but always have self-doubt :D.

Thanks. Every step I wanted to puke because of my sinuses and from puking just hours before ( I get REALLY bad sinus infections ever since I was a kid). Legs, ankles, feet, back all felt amazing, except for my darn head and stomache. I know I would've PR'd if I didn't get sick. Oh well, Goofy Challenge next!

From everything I read about what you do day in, day out, you're about as hardcore as they come! LOL. I would say you are very much a Corral A runner!

Agreed! You deserve corral A for your mileage alone!

I'm with everyone else...you are probably one of the most dedicated runners we have on these boards. Don't sell yourself short - I know it's difficult to look at yourself like that, because in our sport, somebody is always better, but you are definitely a role model for a lot of runners out there, myself included.

I wish I had your drive and determination....relish your accomplishments!

Nick,

You belong in corral A - you put up some very fast times.

I was surprised when I drew Corral D for Marathon. I was even more surprised when the 4:20 pace group was standing around me. I was thinking "OK, this is the last time I am going to see THESE people today"

 That is funny. I said the same thing while standing next to a guy at a race in no shirt, super short shorts and shoes... but it was 30 degrees out. That guy must have been moving to stay warm. Im talking sub 6 minute pace. I knew I would never see him again.

Is that a height joke?! Just kidding. Wow, thanks everyone, that really means alot. I am really proud of my placement and time. I had a blast, and I can't wait for the 2012 now!

Thanks Dave. I was thinking the same thing in corral A! I kept up with them for a few miles, but damn. Yeah I saw my group getting their medals engraved when I came out of the finish.

Heading into Epcot for the finish. The camera auto shut off on my wife as I ran through Main street MK...she was mortified. BUt the Disney ASI photographers made up for it taking some great shots of me throughout MK...$99 :D

01:56:46. My medal is at my local jeweler's now getting engraved. The engravers at the family meet&greet were only taking cash, and the line was kinda long, and they were mixing up the medals.
