Doing both Universal and Islands of Adventure in 1 Day

Ya but in the case of DHS if you have seen the shows already why see them again??? Without the shows not that much there.

Movies don't change... yet millions still buy copies to watch at home whenever they want to.

Epcot???? Unless you stand around eating and drinking all day there isn't much there either

I have bad news for you... some day in the future when you decide to travel around the world.. when you get to a world famous spot.. there probably won't be any ride for you get on either. Yet, millions still visit..

Last October, I was able to do the highlights of both Universal parks in one day (with an express pass). I wouldn't recommend it to a first timer because you miss a lot of both parks, but the highlights can be done in one day and it's better than not going at all.

As an aside, this year will be my first trip to Orlando where I will be making an on-site Universal Orlando hotel the base for my vacation (with a day trip to Magic Kingdom) instead of staying on-site at WDW. The fun at WDW has decreased while the fun at has Universal has increased to the point where I no longer want to spend the bulk of my vacation time at WDW. A sad assessment of WDW from someone who has always been a huge WDW fan!

God bless the "Ignore" button.
Why don't you do Disney World instead!?!?:D:D:D
You are a sad, strange little man, and you have my pity.

Ditto to most responses, though: go early in the day during the slow season and you can probably hit all the major attractions. Both are definitely full-day parks, in reality, though.

You don't need to stay on-site to get the Express Pass. They offer several levels of Express Passes for day guests, including a 2-park unlimited. Depending on crowd levels, you can absolutely do both parks in a day (with Express Passes) and not miss anything. However, you may be rushing and miss some of the ambience and details. You would definitely need to get to the parks at opening, crowds pick-up in mid-morning, and I often have completed IOA by 1pm.
Yes, but after you factor in the cost of the unlimited Express Pass upgrades, you may as well just stay at the resort!

Honestly, doing both parks in a day is not worth the time and effort. There will be so much you will be missing and not doing. Now if you have only one day, then pick one park and really go and experience it. There are some really good shows, rides, gift shops, places to eat. Honestly UNI can be done in two days, but I like to make it three days so I can just enjoy it all without a care about time and rushing around. Both parks are just that good and have so much to offer. Also, you have to think about ride lines and so on if you were really still thinking about doing both parks in one day. Lines can be a big factor in your time line and then you have to think about eating and then think about all the rushing around and walking that would be required and this will cut down on your park experience not to mention you will feel like you ran a marathon at the end of the day. IMHO I would prefer to just do one park only if all the time I had was just one day.

I did 3 days in 2011, and I really wish (in retrospect) that it had been 4, for these exact reasons.

You could do it, just like you could do the Magic Kingdom and DHS in new day. You can visit any two parks in a day. You just won't see as much as you'll have if you spent a day in each.

There really aren't any parks in Orlando, except Gatorland, in which you can do everything in half a day.

Hit the major attractions only, and use Single Rider. I did this one day in November 2012, and was finished at around 9:00 PM. You'll probably have to skip things such as the Universal Horror Make-Up Show and Terminator 2:3D.

Ive been to US & IOA in November five times in the last seven years and on each occassion the parks have been shut by 6pm or 6:30pm
And we couldnt do both parks in a day
