Dogs like Disney too!

As many of us know....dogs do truly become a part of your family! So...when planning for a disney trip I was really discouraged to see that very little was offered for our furry friends.

I would like to take my dog with us to Disney...but at the same time, leaving him in a cage all night and for the majority of the day...is not really appealing to me. I know FW does offer "pet loops" but we weren't planning on camping/RVing.
PetsMart runs the PETS HOTEL...but if your not going to rent a car thats not really an option...since you won't get to see them that often!

So...my plan...or I should say quesiton...
"How come disney hasn't made a pet friendly RESORT?"
(I know I shouldn't even be talking about Disney building another resort...but I just thought I'd throw the idea out there)

Heres what I'm thinking....

- A country/farmish setting...very rustic and natural
- A mix between the moderates and villas
- themed dog beds in every room for dog
- neatly fenced-in areas for outside play off leash
- possible lake for doggie swimming
- lots of walking trails
- PLENTY of plastic bags for the "clean-up"
- Large barn (to go with theme) for kennel use, grooming, and "day-camp"...similar to what PetsHotel offers
- Pet and kid-friendly accomidations
- Evening activities, like "the Barkin'-BBQ" (cute eh?)

Obviously this can't be a 1,000+ room resort...but maybe a nice small resort that famlies with pets could enjoy and a resort the dogs would enjoy too...you wouldn't have to nessecarly stay at the resort to use the kennel and day camp either...and the resort mascot would of course be Pluto! Also people w/o pets could stay too...there could be a section designated as a pet free zone.
*My only issue so far has been the best way to design the rooms to prevent the least amount of damage to furniture and carpet from the dogs*

Rules would of course be in place...
- Dogs must remain on leash, unless in "designated areas"
- Owners must scoop up after thier dogs to enure a clean propperty
- No dogs in pool area/eating facilities
- All vacinations must be present to ensure safety of guests and other dogs

It seems like a smart move to me...especially these days when people are dropping money left and right to please there new companions. Why should going on vacation be any different!

Thanks for reading! Go ahead and post your ideas as well! I just wanted to finally get my idea down!

I don't want to leave Noel with that kid because he has no guidence no control, nobody to watch over him. His mother is too busy, well lets say she is only out for herself. She has 5 kids by three different fathers, 40 years old and on her 4th marriage. She doesn't care about her kids. This boy is 7 years old, doesn't go to school and bonds with complete strangers as soon as he meets them. He is neglected and obnoxious (although it isn't his fault). He has nobody to correct him when he is wrong. I don't trust any of my animals around any of those people. My dad doesn't care about anything anymore, he's not the same person and he would negelect Noel that whole week and I'm not having that. My dad wants to get Noel back but if I have to take him to court to keep her then so be it. He hasn't done anything with her in 4 months now and my grandmother has payed all of Noel's vet bills since we got her 2 years ago. I'm only looking out for Noel's best interest and it would be better for her to stay with us. Trust me, if you knew the whole situation regarding Noel and my dad and his new family, you wouldn't want her staying there either

I really don't have a desire or need to know the "whole story". If you don't trust the people with the dog, then I take you at your word. You don't have to justify your feelings. :)
My point was people spoil their pets ( I know I do) and sometimes spoiled pets can be a royal pain (some of mine have been in the past). Some parents spoil their pets with the same idea of spoiling them. They become intolerable brats, just like some pets. It is indeed unfortunate that this woman neglects her son. Why isn't he in school? And, what is wrong with having different fathers for different children? Not all of my children (I had three) have the same father. What does that make me? Not all marriages work out, it would be nice if they did, but, they don't.

all of her kids were accidents. They won't exactly conceived in love. I don't have a problem with different kids with different fathers. This woman had these kids with drug dealer potheads. The one marriage that did work out, her husband died. Problem is he died 8 years ago and and this boy is 7 and the guy who died was not his father but another drug dealer. Mother of the year is one award this woman will never get. She says she homeschools this kid but she doesn't. She doesn't want anything to do with these kids now that she is married. She has no choice to keep them because she has no other family.

Sorry if I offended you.

Re:

Look people, I do not think that any dog owner is trying to force his/her dog onto anyone. The problem is that some people for whatever reason (me included) want to keep their dog with them. What would be nice is to have at least one wing of one resort that would accept pets.

For example, Carrib. Beach Resort would be an ideal choice! It is very large and the furtherest building could be designated as a pet friendly area. CMs could be told to pick up extra poo they find. I mean, these people have to clean up human poo sometimes (stopped up toilets) so why not a little doggy poo if needed?

I am more than happy to take my dog to a kennel during the day and have her come back to the room at night. I think one day disney will do something like this. As universal shows disney that there is a market for such things someone at disney will see money flowing to universal and try to do something to stop it.

I would suggest to anyone that would like to bring thier pets with them to disney to call/write disney and tell them that you will be staying at universal b/c they are pet friendly. If enough people do this disney will see that they are losing guests and make some changes.

As more people spend more money on pets, market forces will dictate to disney that being more accomidating to pet owners is good for business. I only hope this happens in the near future.

Just my $0.02

The comment about CMs picking up the extra dog pooh is one of the many reasons you will never see animals allowed at Disney resort.
Here are other reasons:
1. dog bites
2. cat bites - this is a sue happy society, imagine Disney allowing pets and someone gets bitten. Hmmmm, I smell lawsuit.
3. ruined furnishings and carpet.
4. dog pooh all over the grounds, not everyone thinks signs are for them.
5. dog urine ruins plants, Disney spends thousands upon thousands for landscaping, why ever would they want to have it ruined?
6. Ticks and fleas
7. Allergies, yes, even pet owners have allergies to some breeds.
8. It AIN'T Universal.

One word: Liability.

Can you imagine the risk Disney would take by having 100s of dogs/cats in an uncontrolled environment intermingling with guests. It all boils down to the ensuing litigation from all the people that would get bitten while staying at Resort BowWow.....

Sorry, I for one dont think its a good idea.....

This could be possibly the worst idea I ever heard.. Imagine taking someone to Disney World for the first time to show them the great resorts and parks.. and the first see they see is a big old dog taking a dump infront of them.. then they walk in some doodoo while walking to thier room... wash it off in one of the pools where some kid jumps out in horror.. then they get to their room and they have to switch rooms 3 times because of their allergies are going crazy from the previous dog hair left in the room.. then while waiting for the bus they have to hold their nose because some guest didnt have time to pick up the doodoo there. Later that night they go back to their resort for a nice nights sleep but they are up all night because of all the dog barking going on... then the lack of sleep makes their reflexes too slow the next morning to avoid the dog attack that came at them on the way to breakfast and they get bit and their vacation is over.

Lol.. dogs at disny.. brilliant :(

Wow! you guys should talk to all the hotels that do allow pets... like those at universal. The Universal hotels have been open for a few years now and I have not heard about dog/cat bites or anyone suing universal. If you have can you please give me an example of it...

Also, can you tell me how many people go to the far reaches of carrib. beach to see the beauty of disney hotels? Not many is my guess, if I wanted to appriciate a disney hotel I think I would go to the grand floridian or AKL, etc...

Honestly, are you people that afraid of dogs/cats that you will stop others from having a total of 20-25 rooms (out of the thousands that disney has) that they can have their pet stay over night in?

Also, about the dog pooo. Do you realize that dog poo washes away when it rains? Which it does almost everyday during the summer in florida. So even if some people do not pick up after their dogs as they should mother nature will take care of it in due time (probably that afternoon). That does not mean it is acceptable to ignore your dog's messes, all I am saying is that this will not ruin anyone's disney experience. Especially, if they know they are staying in a pet friendly section of the hotel.

My guess is that disney is experimenting by allowing dogs in fort wilderness campgrounds and eventually they will designate a section of one of the regular hotels as pet friendly. As soon as that happens I will once again stay onsite. Until that occurs I will be staying at universal or one of the off-site pet friendly hotels.

I work in the ins claims buiz. Friend, I see it everyday. Two or three times a day. Mostly children who get bit. Dont tell me it doesnt happen. Enjoy your dog friendly hotel, but I think Disney is promoting to the correct customer...the human, not the customer that doesnt pay the bills,...the pets.

Have a great day.
