Has anyone else heard this rumour?

Screamscape.com is reporting:

The Carousel of Progress and Timekeeper may reopen for the last
time at the Magic Kingdom during President's Day weekend. Rumor
is that one of these attractions will be replaced by some kind of
"bumper car" ride that is based on Disney's movie, "A Bug's
Life."

Does anyone know if this is true?

Yes it does!

Carousel of Progress, so a CM says, was the attraction that Walt himself said he would want to remain out of everything! It HAS to stay.

This always bugs me. I say, use the Galaxy Palace theater if anything...TimeKeeper over CoP certainly. Maybe Bud-lite year...whoops...Buzz Lightyear...LOL....instead (Had to get that joke in)...

Giant bugs are taking over the world!! AHHHH...

How very retro sci-fi......didnt disney shake that "tommorow image" when they did the rehab?

COP should stay right in Tomorrowland there it is meant to be, since this land is a future's view from the past and Future World in Epcot is the pure and simple future. While also BUGS have their own attraction in AK I don't see why making a new "cliche" ride with the same theme.

Keep CoP! The bug movie wasn't that great....not something I think they should theme a ride after. They already have the 3-D movie in AK. I think that's enough.

Here is my idea about what I think they should do with the COP. If Disney absolutely has to get rid of this ride (which like most people I don't think they should), I think that they should put it in the Smithsonian. To me this ride is a classic, and was one of the rides that was in the actually Worlds Fair. Also one of the rides that Walt himself worked on personally. It is not just a ride but a piece of history.

I don't think that it could be put in there in a working condition but, at least it would not be destroyed and people could still enjoy it in some capacity. Just my two cents.

Funny old thing

When my dad asked about COP, being closed a cast member hinted that it was because of its declining figures. This is hardly surprising as despite 5 trips to the MK it wasnt running on any or if it was it was limited to a very strict time schedule. How can you get bums on seats if youre not open.

CraigW worded that wrong. He meant to say; like the "Bug's Life" bumper cars going in DCA, their will be a similar ride system going into either the Timekeeper or CoP. Probably themed to Buzz, who knows.

CoP has had no big decline in attendance since 9-11 when the ENTIRE park did. Even in the non-peak seasons, the attraction has filled up to near capacity per theater per showing... and recently, there have been lines outside of the waiting queue in Christmas and even President's Day weekend. So, you might think they are going "because it was hot or raining"...well, whatever the reason, each show got an applause... ;)

THEY WILL NOT REMOVE CoP upon my demand!!! Bwa ha ha:lol: I agree with you people that say they can't destroy it. It's a piece of history, part of Walt Disney's vision... And destroying it would be sorta like incinerating Mr. Disney's vision itself!!! I personally would be upset if they took it down!

I love how some people make up facts. Most days I woudl see less than quater full shows, even when they were only using 2 or 3 of 6 theaters.

Usually when they did have a full show, it was only since they weren't loading each theater.

I saw it oever christmas, and yes it was close to full, but again they weren't using every theater. They only were loading once they had enough to fill a whole theater.

Sometimes letting 1 or 2 in a row go empty.

Yeah, I went to the parks a few days after 9/11...and october, november....the parks were very noticbly less crouded. The only reason they had "full shows" is because they were loading people on slower ;)

well, it's been a long time since i've been to WDW, so i pretty much loved anything there. (probably cause i was like 13) Anyway, even if I didn't like it, (CoP), I'd still say that they have to keep it cause it was the original vision for Walt Disney's theme parks. That's just my opinion
