Does it bug anyone else?

...that they didn't name "Cars Land" at DCA "Radiator Springs"? I'm also assuming that the DAK expansion will also be "Avatar Land" instead of "Pandora." I don't know if anyone's heard an official line on why this is the case but I'd be interested to hear any theories.

It doesn't bother me. It was originally supposed to be called "Car Land" and it was supposed to represent the car culture that was present throughout California in the 50's and 60's. I think it makes sense.

I guess "bugs me" is the wrong expression. Just seems odd. The story of the land is that you're entering a very specific town in a very specific world. That town happens to already have a very specific name.

I'm not one of those to jump on Disney's back for "breaking the story" like some of the more sensitive folks around here, but by slapping "land" on the back it feels like it's calling attention to the fact that you're in a theme park rather than being immersed in another world. For example, wouldn't Kilimanjaro Safari feel just a little more cheesy if it was located in "Harambe Land"? Tower of Terror in Hollywood Boulevard Land? Reflections of China in Countries Land?

I get the "land" thing and it works well in the hub-and-spoke castle parks, but something about it in the other parks just doesn't feel right.

I believe once you're in Cars Land it's referred to as Radiator Springs. There is a "Cars Land" sign at the entrance but once you're in, it is Radiator Springs.

I think it is Disney's way of catering to the lowest common denominator. In other words, many people (perhaps if they only have a daughter) may not be very familiar with Cars. So by naming a land "Radiator Springs"...it may not register to them that it is "Cars". The same argument can be made for why Universal called Hogsmeade "The Wizarding World of Harry Potter". It's about blatantly stating the character and not the place.

I actually didn't know it was literally called "Cars Land" until yesterday. I thought people were just giving it a generic name, and oddly enough, I thought the same thing as the OP. Just call it Radiator Springs!

Although... Disney isn't the only offender. The Wizarding World of Harry Potter could really be called Hogsmeade.

I took is as witty, since we have Fantasyland and Tomorrowland and Adventureland...so, too, Cars Land. Funny, right? No?

As far as Pandora goes: I'd be shocked if they actually call it "Avatar Land," even though that's the working title on this forum.

I just don't like the "Land" part of it. There's no originality on that side of the park now with Hollywoodland, A Bug's Land, and Cars Land. :p

That would be the cynical view, yes. And not that I can't be cynical at times, but...

It could also be the typical way that an unfettered WDI gets really detail focused and oriented.

Cars Land at DCA is not just the town of Radiator Springs. Although Radiator Springs is a big chunk of the "land", there are parts of the land that are technically well beyond city limits. Cars Land encompasses Radiator Springs obviously, but as the sign says, Radiator Springs is the Gateway to Ornament Valley, and Cars Land features some of its most prominent landmarks and landscape beyond the city limits out in the Ornament Valley section of the land.

These sections of the land are not in town, they're way outside of town, but it's still obviously Cars Land...

Now, if you want to get picky about place names, it would be more appropriate if they had called the land "Carburetor County", as both the town of Radiator Springs and the Ornament Valley and Cadillac Range are within county limits as shown by this map... http://pixar.wikia.com/File:Carburetor_county_radiator_springs.jpg

So the real question should be... Why is Cars Land not called Carburetor County?!?

Do the county board of supervisors know that Pixar has circumvented their authority by labeling county land with the new place name of "Cars Land"? Someone needs to get this on the agenda for the next County board of supervisors meeting! Call over to the Cozy Cone and alert Miss Sally so she can draft the Cease & Desist order to be sent to those Pixar people out in Emeryville!

Yeah Adventureland, Tomorrowland, Fantasyland...they are so uninspired names...what were they thinking.

This actually reminds me of another thread I just posted on a moment ago (the one where people are all up in arms about how some guests just can't seem to get the names right on some of the attractions.). Anyway, having said that, I actually think it was smart of Disney to call it Carsland. I think if they had called it Radiator Springs, most guests would just call it Carsland anyway. For once, they picked a name that most guests probably won't get wrong (well maybe not "for once", but you know what I mean).

Sorry, but I like "different" names for the areas at the non-DL/MK parks. Condor Flats, Grizzly Peak, Pacific Wharf, Paradise Pier, even Hollywood Pictures Backlot back in the day. Not just "(insert subject here) Land." I wish Cars Land was Radiator Springs like others… TP's suggestion of Carburetor County is also a good one.
