Simple enough. Are you looking forward to it, or does it seem too complicated for you to want to deal with on vacation?

It seems to me that many people look at what you CAN do with the NextGen technology and confusing it with what you HAVE to do.

From what I've read, there are many options with this new system. But that's just what they are. Options. People seem to think that you either MUST use it or if you do use it, you have to plan every second of the vacation.

From what I've read, that's just not true.

Needed a not really, yet. We still don't know what they are going to do with it. From what I have seen it is only going to cause a FP problem that will either be workable for all the guests or it won't. I doubt that it will cause any problems for me as I stay off-site and will not be forced to do anything that I don't want. If they do create a situation that is unacceptable personally, then I can see more of Universal in my future. I'm not on Disney life support. If I can still go and enjoy myself, then I will continue to do so. If they make it so that I am singled out and not treated equally, the magic will be gone and I just won't go there anymore.

I've been looking forward to it, I am a little concered about the technology, But I am very excited that we don't have to wait in that long line to get a fastpass.

We were at Disney in September when they were testing the Fastpass +. It wasn't complicated but, it was a pain in the @**! It's bad enough that you have to make ressies for dining at your favorite meals & now you have to make them for your favorite rides!!!

As a local I am kind of ambivalent to it, as I almost never use FP right now. However IF I was traveling to WDW, I personally would probably not stay at WDW because that kind of planning is not fun, and would make the vacation seem like too much work, and not enough fun.

It scares the hell out of me, but not because it's complicated. as brought up on another thread, once you "opt in" to the my magic disney experience, you are giving them permission to contact you, datamine you, and your children. Scary stuff. I don't want my kids info tracked by disney.

I don't think Disney would track your info, though I'm not sure.
Disney will probably think of a way to make it work without tracking your info.

seriously? every business tracks your info as much as possible. Disney is telling you some magical screen will know your child's name when you approach it.
It is absolutely about tracking and datamining. Once you opt in, they now have permission to collect data on your kids, which normally would not be allowed. They cannot legally collect it via websites if they are under 13. But once you approve an app..

We are very much looking forward to fastpass+ aspects. We have small children and are not able to get to the parks and rush to fastpass for big rides- i.e. toy story mania + new star wars. So yes this may make it more difficult for those w/o kids to occupy rides all day, it will be great for families.

I don't get why some people are "scared" of it. So, they're going to track you on your vacation, how long you stay in your room, where you eat, how much you spend, what parks you go to and how long you stay there, etc. Okay, so maybe they will send you an email or postal mail with an offer to come back, or maybe they will send you a Birthday/Anniversary message. As per their own admission, you can opt out of these, plus the CAN-SPAM act from many years ago requires that they provide a means by which you can opt not to receive these. They're not really tracking YOU and your family specifically though. They're looking for trend spikes by the General Masses of people, or what the largest and maybe lowest percentage does, to try and find ways to improve things, maybe change behaviors, and probably to get people to spend more money. I might add that none of this is new. Every major retailer, restaurant, TV/cable provider, sports venue, etc. has done this for years, and they've gotten quite good at it. They track you in their stores to see where you go, how long you're in there, what you look at and what you buy, as well as what you don't buy. They use cameras, sensors, and sometimes even, under-cover shoppers to trail customers. And, Disney has done this as well. It's all about trying to find ways to get you to spend more money. Whether you opt in or not, once you buy a ticket and walk thru the gates, you are being watched. By choosing not take part in their Magical plan, you're just putting yourself into the group that has to be watched manually.

So, if you don't want to be watched/monitored, your best option is to stay inside your home, but don't watch TV, use the Internet, Phone or any power, gas or water because all of those are being monitored too, but be careful, because even then you will be watched by suspicious neighbors who think there might be something wrong or dangerous about you.

I am very excited about this. I've been waiting for something like this since the 80s. Disney should be at the forefront.

Somewhere on the site someone mentioned "sweaty wristband" for the new NextGen park 'ticket'. I do agree that this 'pass' could be uncomfortable to wear in warm to hot weather. I don't even like to wear a watchband. However, I don't see any reason why WDW won't have the foresight to be able to provide a "charm" style access pass, that can be worn on your WDW lanyard. If one can upgrade from a standard bracelet, to a 'princess' bracelet for a nominal fee, I feel that one should be able to upgrade to a lanyard 'dangle' or 'charm', that can be attached to the lanyard. Another valid reason to do this would be, skin allergies to plastics, arm casts, double arm amputee, just to name a few. Disney is by far the most advanced place on the planet when it comes to assisting the handicapped. I am sure that WDW will soon provide other options, on how you want to carry your WDW Parks pass, to accommodate those who don't want to wear a bracelet.

I believe I read somewhere that there will be a few options instead of the wrist band. I think one was lanyard/neck style and another was a card.
