Does Disneyland have too many annual passholders? - OC Register

To answer the question, I think if you ask anyone here the answer is yes, they have too many.

But if you ask Disney themselves though, the answer is no.

For consumers and people complaining about the crowds, its a 'problem'. For Disney it clearly isn't. And I guess you can argue if people hated crowds as much as they say on the internet then the place would be less crowded. The fact it isn't means more people are fine with them than they are not and why APs will never go away.

Personally I think these discussions really do get overblown. Its the most famous theme park on the planet, its going to be crowded. And believe it or not, there have been other theme parks more crowded than this one and yet its like people live in a bubble or something as if this only place has people in it all the time. Maybe this one of the only few parks people go to but its not the only one with a lot of big crowds. I don't love crowds like everyone else but yeah I accept it. And maybe because we don't go as much as we use to. I guess if I went a lot more times a year it would bother me.

If they had 250 thousand passholders with the cheapest available pass (Southern Cali Select @ $369), that's 92 million dollars. Now we know it's a lot more than this and no company would ever turn this money down.

This seems like a good place to post this...

I managed to squeeze into the parks Monday night at around 11:00pm. Let me repeat...one hour before park's closed...and when I came around the corner in front of Pirates, this is what I saw. Keep in mind, this was a weekday, NOT a grad night, and with no perceived special events going on...

Well it is the summer season.... So vacations are already under way. No telling if that is just AP or vacationers.

The only times customers are turned away is Christmas, Day after Christmas, and New Years Eve at Disneyland only. Otherwise the parks are capable of handling large crowds. More parking and hotels are needed before they can address having a third park.

That’s the crowd exiting the 10:30 Fantasmic! If you came back 10 min later it would be close to deserted in that area.

How can any blame attach to Passholders, who are simply buying and using what Disney is selling?
The blame is clearly on Disney. The Passholders themselves are physically causing crowd/parking issues and annoying everybody, but if Disney would at *least* put a tighter limit on the number sold, it wouldn't be such problem (A problem to guests, that is; I'm sure The Mouse sees no problem at all).

Is it fair to blame passholders when Disney encourages this type of behavior?

Beyond merch events and selling limited quantity items that attract the scalpers, I'm not sure how much Disney is specifically to blame for that kind of behaviour. At a certain point, it's the customer's fault if they insist on being first to see a newly painted bench.

Just have that be the price of a bulk ticket package instead of x number of days of access.

People would still buy it.
