Does Disney California Adventure have enough repeatable rides?

Sure, it's not all-day park, but my favorite ride in both parks is GRR. My friend and I did single rider 5 times in a row one warm day. Incredicoaster is my favorite rollercoaster in both parks. TOT, RSR, and Soarin' are up there in my favorite rides. I think I like WOC best of the shows. I enjoyed watching Aladdin many times. Frozen, not so much.

Like Dear Prudence, Little Mermaid has special place in my heart. I was in love with this Brazilian girl who had left LA and gone back to Brazil just as LM came out. We had a long-distance romance over the phone. After 6 months of calls, I took 30 days leave from the Air Force to fly down there and see if I might marry this girl-"if I could be part of your world." You gotta know that "Kiss the Girl", was in my head as she met me at the plane. Oh, sorry. I got distracted from the discussion of DCA.;)

Depends how you define repeatable. Repeatable to me just means it’s fun and most likely relies on thrill as opposed to place making and story telling. I think GRR, Mission Breakout, Incredicoaster, Goofys Sky School, Pixar Pal Around and to a lesser extent RSR are super repeatable. I went on Storybookland canal boats for the first time in about 4-5 years this past weekend. It was super charming and higher quality than just about any of the DCA attractions I listed above but it’s definitely not as repeatable. That’s why a ride like Splash Mountain is the holy grail as it’s fun/ thrilling/ repeatable AND also has wonderful place making/ atmosphere.

Does Disney California Adventure have enough repeatable rides or is there too much filler? IMO, when I go to California Adventure, I just feel there are not enough great repeatable rides to keep me interested so I’ll spend an hour or two there and then go to Disneyland. What is your opinion?

My gosh, what an excellent question!

I had to put my nightcap down and think about it for a few moments....

My conclusion is that the only truly repeatable rides in DCA is Radiator Racers and Soarin' Over California. Because....
  • Radiator Racers has enough eye candy and funny sight/audio gags to keep you straining for more. Plus the unknown ending of which car will "win" and that fun thing where each car waves and smiles at each other as you cross the finish line.
  • Soarin' Over California because it's a different ride depending on which row you are in. Plus, now it's over 20 years old and the vistas look a bit dated and fun to ogle at. San Diego looks like its 1999, and LA is just blurry and is missing skyscrapers now.
Other than those two rides, DCA doesn't have a Pirates or Mansion or Small World or Jungle Cruise or Indy or Splash Mountain that welcomes repeat rides and experiences. I suppose one could teach a college level class about how modern Imagineering and Accountaneering has failed because of that, but it wouldn't be popular with the younger crowd. They'd be mad they couldn't declare their generation to be "AMAAAAZING!".

It not enough to want me to spend all day their. When I am in DL I can. But it was more developed overtime with cohesive choice of entertainment.

I think DCA need 2 more family oriented dark rides, and one more thrilling attraction. Raider Spring Racers, the Little Mermaid and World of Color are great additions that the park was lacking for a long time.

I would hope someday Disney would be smart to develop another dark ride in Pier area. Or 2. It missing Mr. Toad/Alice in Wonderland esque style .

I think what Galaxies Edge did for traffic flow at the park isn’t really appreciated enough. Maybe at some point I just got used to the park being crowded but I feel like it helped a lot. The pinch points are still the pinch points of course but the land takes a lot of people out of DL proper and helps with the crowd flow too. Especially next month when Fanstasmic starts. Getting off Haunted Mansion when Fantasmic ends? No problem, you can just cut through GE to Fantasyland.

I remember a few nightmare evenings during the 60th. Almost got stampeded by Astro Orbitor.

RSR is the only Disney quality E-ticket in the park for me. I was never a fan of Soarin' (feels like a tech demo rather than Disney attraction), Incredicoaster is fun but laughably cheap feeling, GRR is a good waste of time when its super hot and there is no line, but the lack of show elements leaves me a little bored. I used to visit for RSR, TTBAB, and TOT. With 2 out of the 3 gone, its just not worth it as a park anymore.

Personally no I don't think DCA has enough repeatable attractions.

Its kind of how DHS used to be for me.
DHS has since improved a bit and even if I don't care to repeat everything there are enough things that I like to repeat that its worth more than a half day and more than a whole day even.

I agree mostly except I think GRR is Disney quality at least in terms of place making. There are certain parts of the ride where you can lose yourself in the atmosphere. Experimentally, Soarin is Disney quality although it’s showing it’s age. I went on the California version last week and it just looked dim and grainy. Still has that emotional punch though. The only screen focused ride that looks good at DLR right now is Spider-Man.
