Yep different 2 minutes of arctic air blowing in your face with you feeling like losing your lunch.
... It is different.

Getting kicked (where it is most painful) is different too but just because it is different, not sure I want that experience.
Just as a reminder...because one person has a sickness problem, does not under any stretch of the imagination mean that everyone does. That argument is relevant to the motion sickness people only. That would be your experience not mine. :)

Eh - Horizons was decent, but really any different that Spaceship Earth? Mission Space has it's flaws, but atleast it is a different experience.

Using the logic of your example, MS is no different than the scrambler ride at your local fair. SSE and Horizons are only similar in the fact that they are dark rides that contained animatronics.

I never rode Horizons since my first visit was in 2009, but I still like it better than Mission: Space! I can't ride MS because of motion sickness - even green!

Mission Space is pretty good, but there is, in my opinion, one glaring flaw....it's not re-rideable. Once you've ridden it, there's really no point in going back. The worst part of all is that they have control sticks and buttons to press....but it really does nothing. Anything you do inside the cabin has no affect on what happens on the screen.
Someone in your cabin doesn't press a button? "AUTOMATIC OVERRIDE".
Then the asteroid field and the Mars descent....Gary Sinise is giving you commands on what to do with the control stick. But what happens if you don't? "AUTOMATIC OVERRIDE" and the stick starts moving with Sinise's commands.

How about several different scenarios, depending on what choices the riders make? Like if someone doesn't jettison the booster rockets, having to make an emergency landing on the moon instead?
Or...and I know this is completely grim...but what about a death sequence? Say if your pilot isn't as good as navigating asteroids as Han Solo? Or how about everyone decinding to move a muscle? "CRASH!"
Then Sinise pops onto the screen to inform you that you are a miserable failure and you are all "dead" now, and you should have probably gone to play the kiddie games at the end instead.

I didn't read the rest of the thread so I don't know if anyone commented or not...

But my only problem with this is that I don't want my mission or my possible "death" to be in the hands of other people who are riding with me...and I don't mean family. My fiance and I travel just us - so often we're paired with other parties of 2. We were paired with a European father and his son on the last trip. They spoke no English and did not understand their "roles" so every 2 seconds we heard "Automatic override" UGH I would have died for SURE on that mission! Hahahaha!

Unfortunately I missed out on Horizons by about a month as I didn't go to WDW for the first time until February 1999, but I actually really love Mission Space anyway, I haven't voted as I haven't riden both didn't think it would be fair.

I can't really comment as I've never ridden Horizons, however having watched the video of the ride through, it looked totally awesome and they have replaced it with something very bland and very boring. Although I enjoy M:S, I love animatronics more.

Horizons crushes Mission: Space.
I loved Horizons. It was beautiful, captivating, engaging, and fun. There wasn't a ride with a storyline like Horizons had. It was the first thing I did at Epcot, and it never bored me.
MISSION: Space is a nightmare. I still remember my first (and last) time riding Orange Team as one of the most terrifying experiences of my life.
You are locked in a tiny capsule with no way out. It feels EXTREMELY enclosed. The restraint doesn't let you move any of your body. While you are basically being tied to a chair where it literally feels like the walls are closing in on you, you launch through the sky. It isn't fun or thrilling, it's intense and uncomfortable. The whole ride was unnerving, painful, and awful.
Why close an amazing ride for this load of crap? It blows my mind.

C'mon people :( i mean we have to admit that even Mission Space that is kinda old now still holds up GREAT to THIS DAY.
Mission Space mainly sucks because it is one mission only. You ride once and that's it, nothing to make you want to ride it again. They need multiple missions ala Star Tours.

And two other things that I don't like about MS: 1) The huge space station set doesn't even rotate like it was designed to. 2) If you look up in the queue line you can see the "lounge" upstairs. Last time we were in there, we could watch HGTV on the tv up there from down below. Kind of kills the whole vibe watching Flip or Flop when you are supposedly about to board a Space Flight.

Horizions was classic, inspiring, and an enjoyable experience. MS is none of those things.

Horizons is a classic, favorite. It's a difficult compare.

I'd say Mission Space gets an even worse wrap now because of the Green, less intense option. It essentially cut the legs off a very unique attraction. I don't think people appreciate how unique and interesting the concept really is, because the feeling is unlike any other "thrill" ride. It's a $100m attraction that has a very cool queue and ultimately does simulate space travel very well.

If you ride Green, it's essentially a moving robotic arm with, like Sum of All Thrills. They weren't going for this, so it's a shame it has to be that way.

Furthermore, the video is old and could easily be re-done and the ride reprogrammed for a new mission, still utilizing the simulator.

I think it's the perfect ride for EPCOT, but people seem to have a hard time with the simulation sensation.

Agreed on multiple missions, but the Space station has rotated for me and I've never seen a TV on in the lounge. I've ridden it probably 50 times? I am always looking around and never seen something that ridiculous. Not saying it didn't happen, I just don't think it's the norm.

Horizons was probably a little too similar to the Spaceship Earth concept and it was scrapped. I hate that it was scrapped, but I'm sure that was partly the rationale.

I do think the multiple mission concept like Star Tours would be good, but almost any ride can become repetitive unless you're interested in the concept, the experience, or the sensation. What thrill ride is not repetitive? Rockin' Rollercoaster is the same every time you ride it. So is Space Mountain. So are Everest and Thunder Mountain.

Mission: Space was close to "amazing" when it first opened because it was unique and new and different. But now it is old and stale. They need to go back in and reimagine it. I doubt it will get test track type lines if they did, but what's there now is just bad. I definitely prefer Horizons, but I prefer the mindset that Disney had when making m:s and that was to have some diversity. It would be nice if they could completely redo it, with a short dark ride somehow attached to it. So for the people who "opt out" they can just ride the omnimover while the rest of the party rides the intense version then meet up later with the family and they can both ride the omnimover and relax.
