Does Anyone Else Think That The Millenium Celebration Was A Little Over The Top?

I was thinking about this today, and I wanted to know if I was alone in my opinion. Now that the millenium celebration is a few years in the past and it can be looked at in a different way, wasn't it way over the top and quite corny? From the mickey hand to the songs, everything was just so over the top! I found an old tape today and as I put it in the VCR, I realized that it was the Superbowl halftime show from a few years back that Disney put on. I remembered loving it at the time, but as I watched it again, I realized that it was HORRIBLE!!!!!! WHAT WERE THEY THINKING?! When the millenium celebration was going on I loved it, but in retrospect, it was such a joke. Opinions...?

I liked it. Sure it was over the top, but the Millennium all over the world was hyped up to be such an over the top event that nobody really noticed just how garish (in a nice, inspirational way) Disney's version was. But I liked it. :D Yeah... :D  :)

I totally disagree. I thought the celebration was just enough. I didn't find anything corny about the songs at all. And the halftime show was awesome in my opinion. Of course it was partly done to bring in the $$$ but I will remember that time in my life- not just my trip to WDW, but the entire feeling of the new millennium as something very special. The celebration brought us two FANTASTIC shows- RoE and Tapestry. While one is gone- the other is still going strong and remains a testament to human achievment and hope- what the celebration stood for.

I wish I had been there for the millenium celebration but I really enjoyed 100 years of magic!

anything that comes around every 1000 years is gonna be over-hyped, but memorable. It's what kind of memory it leaves with you personally is what it boils down to. For me personally, I look at it as something that I will obviously never see again and neither will many generations of other people if this ol' ball lasts that long.

I think the Millenium Celebration was just enough. I personally think that 100 YoM was too much hype for too few offerings

Millennium was *excellent*...from the scores, to the NEW ILLUMINATIONS fireworks...it was extremely well-done!

(Well, except a little thing I like/hate to call JIYI... :lookaroun )

BUT the celebration in general was a great tribute to humanity and time itself! :)

(IMO, Horizons should have been kept open through the summer until the press release for MS came out...*shrug*...it seemed it would have been VERY fitting with the Millennium celebration in relationship to OUR place and progress in time along with Spaceship Earth...and just another pavilion to be open. :) )

in some ways I think it was over the top, because I don't think that they needed a new Illuminations at all. But I did love the millenium village. I thought that was so cool, I wish I had taken a few more pictures of it.

I liked the Millennium Celebration. The new Illuminations was spectacular, Tapestry of Nations was a nice adition, Millennium Villiage was really great, and they also had a lot of new attractions to hype at the same time the celebration started (Rock N Rollercoaster, Fantasmic, Buzz Lightyear, Asia at AK, Pooh, Tarzan Rocks, Cirque du Soleil, Journey into Your Imagination). Combine that with the fact that it was a once-in-a-lifetime event around the world, I think they hyped the celebration just enough.

I loved the Millennium Celebration, it was such a fun time! I also think 100 YOM was way too overhyped (and that Hat at MGM is just deplorable!)

I loved the Millenium Celebration so much, I went twice!! In one night we saw the Tapestry of Nations parade 3 times (we didnt mean to  )

I guess its all subjective, whether or not you think its over the top. I didnt find the arm to be too much, but then again, it was the Sorcerers arm, and I do collect him, so I am a bit biased ;)

At the time, I thought that "the arm" was a very tasteful way to decorate for the celebration...certainly more tasteful than a pepto - bismal pink castle to be sure! :animwink:

If only, like the b-day cake castle, the arm had just gone away...

*sigh*

I really liked the millennium celebration. It was a lot better than Disneyland's party. It was going on at the same time that Disneyland was celebrating their "45 years of magic."

The 100 years of magic was okay, but some of the stuff that was in the best new attraction for the celebration, One Man's Dream, was already on display at Disneyland.

I'd have to say the Milennium Celebration was my favorite of the 3 held at WDW... The music, the new shows, everything. I also thought the theme of the celebration was excellent... "Celebrate the future hand in hand..." We all need to come together and celebrate our differences... I loved it!

This was a once in a liftime event and had to be made spectaucular, even if it went a little over the top, I though it was great, but I do miss Tapestry

Heading for the great escape.
No way loved the millennium and loved 100 years. Really pleased the Walt Exhibit has stayed as we went without the girls last years so now they will get a chance to see it.
