Does anyone else think an American Idol attractions a bad Idea?

I, for one, am optimistic. This might be a huge home run. Then again, it may stink so bad that the Indiana Pig Farms will smell like roses compared to AI at the Studios. I think we should wait and see.

Imagine doing karaoke (for Adults & Kids) with AA Mickey and Minnie leading the show? Even do it like MIF or TTWCrush and it would go over really well.

I like your omission of the L in Monsters Inc. Laugh Floor Comedy Club. Very PC.

But, back on topic. I agree that it's a bad idea for a few reasons. The first is that it is a TV show, and will not be on the air for ever. And there are very few TV shows that become immortalized in the minds of viewers after they are off the air (unlike movies).

Secondly, I think that when you are inviting people, especially teenagers, to take a mic, it is a bad idea. Who knows what they are going to say or do! Teenagers do crazy things, and DHS seems to have more than any other park (due to the two thrill rides). Also, a lot of the teenagers come to Disney for sports and don't care if they ruin the Magic. Imagine if someone got up and said, "Mickey is just a guy in a suit." (He's not, of course :animwink:). Think of the PR mess Disney would have gotten themselves into.

Lastly, I think that this attraction goes against a few of the principals of Walt Disney, and especially this particular park. Walt Disney wanted everyone to have the same privileges, and wanted everyone to be a star. Some might say that this attraction facilitates that, but I disagree. If it is like Who Wants to Be a Millionaire, only a select people will actually be able to sing, and everyone else might feel left out. Part of the point of DHS was to allow everyone to feel like a "star" and yet some people will be left just feeling like another audience member.

Okay, rant over! :fork::lol:

I just don't see the need to add another attraction like this to a park that has so many shows already. Rides are what they need to attract a varying degree of patrons.

RIDES:
Great Movie Ride
Star Tours
Backlot Tour
Tower of Terror
Rock N Rollercoaster
Toy Story Mania (coming soon)

And the Great Movie ride and Backlot Tour are more like shows that take place in ride vehicles.

I don't like the TV show -- it's never held any appearl for me at all. So I would much prefer a DHS show based on something else. Bring back SuperStar Television!

That being said, if Disney can pull this thing off well, I think it's actually a great idea. Most popular TV show in the country, hot and hip (for reasons I don't understand), and, if they do it right, different from anything else in the park. I have my doubts about whether they can do it right -- I seriously doubt the talent level of DHS guests -- but if they do, it'll be popular and there will be buzz.

thats why Mickey's Karaoke Jam Party would be better.

Or have Donald, that would rock too
hehehe

I'm ok with AI. I don't really watch the show but i love karaoke. I think it would be cute to see kids singing their fav songs.

I like your idea better than an AI attraction. It is more Disney oriented, as it should be, and is more permanent this way. I love watching AI, but I'm not really sold on the idea of an attraction. It's a little overkill for me.

I think Disney is making a big mistake.

They could have built a great ride with the money wasted on the license agreement. I wonder how many millions they paid. I just hope they have a clause to get them out of it when this thing bombs.

Yes....It just seems so un-Disney to me.

Yeah, I agree. That was what I thought when I first heard about it. The first half of the season (or 1/3 or whatever) is set up to do nothing but humiliate people. The tone is just awful and I really am surprised Disney wants that image in the parks no matter how popular the program is.

That said, I have a feeling this is going to be overly bland because, let's face it, what attracts people to that program is that very "let's see who's gonna get the smack down from Simon" and I just don't see that stuff flying at Disney. I assume it's going to be some pre-taped introductions, some karaoke on stage, and audience voting.

It will be very interesting to see how it all works out. At the least, it will suck in people which is great. I can't imagine spending my theme park day listening to other park guests attempt to sing, but I know many people will - and that means less crowds elsewhere.

Overall I don't object to it, but yes, I am surprised that Disney would want that association, and even more surprised it's with a FOX show. I would have expected a Dancing With The Stars attraction first, TBH.

God bless the "Ignore" button.
Speaking as someone with a fantastic voice I cant wait to unleash my talent at the Studios. Thats life, Killing in the name of, Mob Scene are all part of my repertoire and would go down a storm.

I mean who wants to go to a theme park and see themed attractions when they can have pub entertainment with lights and a decent sound system.

Are you being sarcastic, or do you really want to spend that much money to perform in glorified karoke? I'm a singer myself, and would love to get a job singing at WDW, but I wouldn't be caught PAYING to sing there. It'd have to be the other way around!

No just using more bad phrasing to upset the slow. :animwink:

Perhaps in keeping with the Hollywood theme theyll limit songs to show tunes, that would at least guarantee a hit with certain visitor groups.

I don't watch American Idle, I don't sing nor do I enjoy Kareoke so this would just be one more attraction I wouldn't go to see.

TV spin offs don't do so well at Disney.
Example: Who Wants To Be a Millionaire..Play it.
How long did THAT last....3 years?

This will be another one of the buildings that I won't be stepping into. This just won't appeal to me.

Why not another great Disney production in this location.

I think it's a crap idea...but then again I haven't seen the final product. I think it would be more fun to have a "Gong Show" attraction ;)

I have to agree with you folks. American Idol has rubbed me the wrong way from the start, just due to my general disagreement with "manufactured stars". By that, I mean gathering some marginally talented people, GIVING them music to sing, grooming them into the business, and then starting the business. While there is nothing really wrong with it, I prefer the "artist" approach. Not to mention the contracts gleened for the first couple years off of American Idol are practically explotive.... but it's a good venue for some people to be heard. Granted I'd never want to win it and I AM a singer! But that's all just MHO on the operation as a whole...

But if given the choice between a House of Mouse style and American Idol, I would rather see a House of Mouse.

Now - a wise use of synergy could be to blend the two... Have The House of Mouse "host" American Idol. That way, once the show dies off, they'll have a more long term venue to host Disney-Classics-Meet-Pop-Culture.

Yeah! Or something along the lines of Disney Idol! or something like that....

maybe karaoke with just disney songs.... i'm sure that will make it more "disney"

Something like this should be at Universal not DISNEY. I would rather see the building stay empty then have that garbage in their.

Actually, Universal just opened its own Karaoke bar, but you get a live band and it DOES serve alcohol...its in Citywalk, not in the parks, and probably a better idea all around (except for brand recognition)

As far as this not being "Disney"...the same can be said for half of the other attractions at DHS right now, like Rock'n'Roller Coaster and the LMA stunt show

How is RNR and the stunt show NOT disney? I couldn't tell you a reason why it wouldn't be.

And I'm just one of the only people that's going to enjoy this show.
