Does anyone else remember . . .

. . . the old restaurant reservation system at EPCOT Center where you stood in front of and talked to an agent on a video screen to make reservations for the day? I don't remember which building it was in, but it was a large room (circular, I think) with several video screens built into the walls. My wife and I used this in 1986.
I don't suppose anyone has any pictures . . .

I remember booking through those too but I don't have photo's.

Those were the days when you could just book on the day rather than 90 days in advance!

Oh I remember that, I have no pictures though. But I also remember being able to ask questions about the park and where stuff was located. Wow, funny how you can remember stuff you thought you didn't.
Thx for that site too, that was pretty cool. :)

They had another "outpost" of those WorldKey screens in WS, right outside Germany. Now they sell crystal out of it.

Earth Station! I remember that in the late 80's - I was really little so my memory of it is vague.
There's some pictures here: http://waltdatedworld.bravepages.com/id183.htm
Just scroll to the bottom of the page, and it talks a little bit about it. :)
Thanks for the link!

I agree.
Martin actually has a video of it at Mousebits.
Thanks! I'll look it up.

I found another of my favorite memories from our very first trip: Backstage Magic (http://waltdatedworld.bravepages.com/id114.htm - a little more than halfway down the page). I enjoyed watching the CM's working away, completely oblivious to the little woman walking around on their workstations and chattering away.

And then there's GYRO: http://waltdatedworld.bravepages.com/id18.htm. We caught sight of him with some other guests, but by the time we got over there, it was time for his nap.

Ah, Earth Station and World Key. Futuristic before it's time.

Why they still don't use it is beyond me...
it's not beyond me...cost, like everything else. Plus, it would pretty much be useless nowadays since you typically can't get a day-of reservation at Epcot...

Yep, that was awesome and completely futuristic! I remember telling my friends about it in the early 80s. The World Key kiosks were too cool too! Touchscreens and animations, really made you feel like Disney was plussing all of Epcot and that you were viewing the future. Too bad they've lost some of that spark.

Brings back memories from my first visit to Epcot in 1986. I remember the whole family standing infront of the screen talking with the girl. We thought we were so cool back then.

Then again, I miss having my book of tickets at Disneyland!
