The tunnels in the pictures look so much cleaner than when we were down there on the Keys to the Kingdom tour! In addition to the vehicles beeping occasionally, there were pallets and bins of "stuff" alongside the corridors. I was also surprised that a "you are here" map that we saw down there is slightly old.:)

The "stuff" in the utilidors have to go upstairs and into the shops, etc. The only way to get things from place to place in MK is thru the utilidors. Stuff goes in and all out the time.

I only down there a few times. Just going thru once and I had the layout basically memorized. Just imagine going to the same place day after day. You don't really need a map.

The large tubes are the garbage system, it goes to a building over behind Pirates. The most unusual part when you are in the tunnels, is the ice they put in to keep the garbage from settling on the bottom of the tubes. It makes quite a noise.

THAT's ice? Wow, I'd have never guess. They never told us, really, and I was a Custodial! I remember some of the Brazilian CMs started saying that some pipes were for the AVAC system and others were in fact connected to the stores, to take away all the loads of money spent by guests! :hammer: You know, since every now and the we'd see one of those armored cars coming in and out of the Utilidors.

I've heard that garbage gets sucked thru those tubes quite rapidly!

It's vacuum, really. And it's scary too, I hardly used it. On top of the tubes where you dum the garbage, there's this red light. When it lights on, you gotta close the lid of the tube and wait for it to turn off. Then you hear this huge sound, and everything is gone. Of course, if you don't shut the lid, nothing happens, it just kinda skips that location and moves on. Oh, and if you threw in too much wet stuff, like big soda cups and ice cream wrappers, you could get it clogged, and then the park's whole system shut down. THAT was the scary part, being responsible for that... :lookaroun

On my Backstage Magic tour, we were in the utilidors when BOTH the trash dump and the cash dump were occuring. Our guide was great. He showed us that there are 3 tube systems... One for cash, one for trash, and one for the vaccuum systems.... of course, he could've been pulling our leg a little.

They would not let us take any pictures down there or in any backstage areas, and of course, since I'm a CM, I didn't want to lose my job, discount, or any of the other things that are the reason for working at a Disney Store for $5 an hour. hehe:zipit:

MK Custodial..one other thing I noticed down in the tunnels were the size of the barrels of the soap! Oh my goodness! Please tell me that no one lifts those - I'm hoping they get put on some kind of a forklift! But it's funny to see the huge barrel and then when you go into a restroom, it's in one of the many tiny dispeners!:)

If I remember correctly, all those big things get moved around by trams, those little golf carts, they used to pull like a truck bed behind them...

*stares into space* My memory is really fading... Oh well, it's been 2 and a half years, after all.
