Does a CM really need to comment?

Bear with me, I just want to rant for a moment. I went to the Studios today because of ESPN The Weekend and had a great day overall. Now there was one thing that really annoyed me and if it weren't for the fact that there were alot of kids around, I might have let the CM know that I thought they were out of line and I know my wife would have too. Here's what happened:

We were waiting for our priority seating time at Sci-Fi Dine-In and since we had over a half hour, the kids decided they wanted to go to the HISTK play area. They were running around and having fun when we got over to one area that a CM was standing around. Being the friendly sort my wife and I said hello and then let our daughter know that we would be going soon to the restaurant. Now, my daughter likes to pick out her clothes for the day and today she decided to wear something that had technically been part of her last Halloween costume. She had wanted to be Hermione from Harry Potter so she had a nice grey skirt, a nice button down shirt and a grey vest. That was what she chose to wear today, but on her feet she went with a new pair of aqua socks that she had just gotten, which happened to be a bright pink making for an interesting contrast in her outfit. It was kinda cute, really. So the CM, who I can only describe as looking like a female Napolean Dynamite due to similar facial features, especially in the mouth, says in a snarky manner "She's wearing a Catholic Schoolgirl Uniform?" We think nothing of it and say to her "Yeah, our daughter likes to pick out what she wears and she liked that outfit." We explained her Halloween costume from last year and that she liked the clothes so much, that she wears them from time to time. At this, the CM said in a still snarky manner "Well then why is she wearing pink shoes with it?" I told the CM that they were new and she felt the were very comfortable and she likes them, so that was what she chose to wear. The CM actually started looking annoyed and said with an attitude "But that doesn't match. Why would she pick something that doesn't match?" And our response was, "Because that's what she wanted to wear and it makes her happy. Nothing else should matter." I then got the kids together and left to go to lunch. It wasn't so much that she was asking about what my daughter chose to wear, but more the attitude with which she asked about it, as if it was a personal insult to her. I just felt that if she was going to act like that, it would have been better to just not say anything. I actually refrained from saying something to her along the lines of "You should be careful what you say to people. You never know who might be an off duty manager here." If I had, it might have made her think about what she says or how she says it in the future, but if an actual manager was around they might have gotten ticked, so that's why I didn't.

A cm? Dont know exactly what that means!? Anyways I had a run in like that at Magic Kingdom a year ago. We were in line for Splash Mountain and my 2 13 year olds were talking about there school. Which is a catholic school in Nebraska. They were talking about how they didnt excipically like the fact that they went to mass every other Thursday, but was happy that they were able to go as a school. Well, there was a lady in the back of us with 2 kids around the ages of 10 and 7 years. She must have been listining in on there conversation and told me 'Make your children shut up" They are not thinking about the other people in line." I kindly responded "May I ask what you are talking about?" she answered "Your children are talking about "God" and "Jesus" WHICH MY KIDS NEVER EVEN MENTIONED! She then told her two children to walk out of line and that they will ride this ride later. Her voice was very loud and when they left I felt embaressed and my children did also. We found a person who worked at the park and let them know about this incedent. This Park Worker asked us for this womens description and proceeded to tell us this is the 3 time someone as complained about this. In the end the Park Worker said it was the same description as the others had given. I do not know what happened with that women, but I do know she was VERY disrespectful and out of place. Sad to say that is what you run into at Amusement Parks sometimes.

You can get terminated for commenting like that. I would think she had looked cute! Sounds like a cute little outfit.

That is dumb for anyone to comment about a child's outfit like that. Children like to dress in things they like, who cares if it matches. I have read that you let the child choose what they want sometimes because it creates independence and a sense of self for the future in that child. Maybe that castmember has not seen the movie "Big Daddy". Does anyone remember some of those outfits the kid put together? :)

I have two kids (12yrs and 3yrs). If we are lucky, we get to visit WDW twice a year. My 12yr old has been there 14 tiimes. Not too bad living in Pittsburgh. I feel that the cm was out of line, but I'm hoping she was having a bad day. I'm always one to give a cm the benefit of the doubt. They all work very hard and I would like to think that maybe you just caught her at her worst moment. In our experience, the cm's always bent over backwards for us.

I would have gone over to guest relations and politely told them what sort of cast members they had working in the HISK area. Sorry to hear of this, though. Whenever I hear something like that, it's emberassing to ME, in a way, being a CM. It makes us all look bad.

I work with kids everyday (not at Disney). Many of them love to be able to pick out their own clothes. I've seen some crazy combo's. It's much better to laugh inside and simply say: Your orange pants, pink tutu, mixed matched socks, with sandels look divine with your aqua shirt and the red cowboy hat tops it off just nice. And please tell me where you got your magic wand. I love it and would love to get one for myself.

Wow, that is so rude of a CM to say that. I would have told her how much I love her pink shoes. I have multiple pairs of pink shoes that I match to every outfit because I like them so much. Obviously this CM has never watched ______ in the City because shoes totally make an outfit. And they definitely don't have to match, they just have to look cute and coordinate nicely!

CM = Cast Member. If you browse the old threads, you can find lists of abbreviations used on here! Welcome to the boards.

Wow - what an ignorant woman. If your kids were swearing or talking about ______ or something inappropriate, sure, they should shut up - but their school, of all things?!?! It's bad enough that we've completely removed any sort of religion and morality from the Public Schools and Government already, but thank God we can still talk about it outside of those places, including the line for Splash Mountain. Freedom of Speech lady! Sheesh - I hope someone took care of her......if not, I know a guy...who knows a guy...who could

Good for you for giving your daughter some independence! Shame on that CM for trying to ruin your day over it.

 Beth, you crack me up. But I agree. Like the silver Manolo's in "A Woman's Right to Shoes." (I've recently completed my collection on DVD so I watch them...daily? :lookaroun )

And Number_6, I think it's wonderful that you let your daughter pick her clothes and have her own taste. She'll appreciate freedoms like that later on. :)

that was a perfect time to create a magical moment for your daughter, once she found out that ya'll let her pick her own clothes. this girl, i would guess, was on the college program. did she have her city, state, or college name on her nametag, if you remember?
anyway, it was uncalled for, and I'm glad your daughter didn't hear her.

Thats not fair to assume she was on the college program. I have had a running with a very rude woman at the MGM gates. She was so rude I complained to a Manager and made sure she was fired! If someone working at Disney they should know not to spoil the magic they are after all the creaters of it. I am sorry but they should be fired and work down the 192 in some motel or McD's where you expect rude staff. I am applying for Disney's IP so I can work in Epcot and I would never do anything that would tarnish the magic as it is one of the reasons I want to work their, to make sure kids and adults have the best time.:D

i guess i shouldn't have put it that way, but I am a former CP, and I know that probably 85% of the CPs are there for parties, and couldn't care less about disney, or the disney way! i shouldn't have stereotyped CPs, but I was one, so I felt safe in doing so.
Either way, this girl had NO right to say this to ya'll!

Don't worry, I was thinking the exact same thing. Most the time "girl" mean CP and when they don't care, it does sound like a CP. Not that all of us don't care, cuz of course all of us on the boards aren't.

I didn't even bother looking at the nametag. I was more interested in making sure my kids were having fun and then getting us to lunch on time. So you can get some idea of just how ridiculous the CM was being, here's a pic of my kids from yesterday. Now, just picture a pair of bright pink shoes on my daughter's feet with that outfit:

i was quick to assume that kelly, that the mixture of it being a 'girl' and that she wasn't magical, made her a CP, but i never had a bad experience with a young female, who wasn't a cp, so i guess i'm just conditioned that way!
anway, i bet this little girl was extremely cute in her mismatched outfit.
