Do you think having a Deluxe helps a lot summer?

I have been nervous about heat and storms, and it gets me thinking, is it better to be in say WL or AKL than a resort with outdoor corridors in the summer because you get more aircon time and room inside(common areas) to keep kids busy during bad weather?

I could see it being a benefit, but Poly is a deluxe and you may have to walk in the heat/rain.

We've stayed at POR in late September, it was hot and rained most everyday, but I wouldn't call it miserable.

Then again, we live in the South, so we are used to the heat, so if you are from somewhere that doesn't go above 80-85 in the summer, it may be worth the price to stay out of the heat.

Another advantage for the Deluxe resorts is the walkways to and from the transportation stops are covered too making the walk to and from the resort and stops a bit cooler and dryer if raining.

This is true for some of the Deluxe. However, guests at the Poly and GF will get wet walking from transportation to their building.

We have had several rainy days at AKL and loved them all. In addition to their many already planned activities, they seem to bring out more African cultural items as well as more cultural ambassadors to interact with guests when it's raining. IMO, AKL is the best place to spend a rainy day, so much to see and do. The only drawbacks are getting to Mara and transportation to and from the park in the rain.

I am going this Summer. Yes it is hot, but not as hot as it is here in NC. You still get the breeze from the Gulf or ocean side. Storms, no big deal. I am not afraid to get wet. I don't care who you are and think your stuff doesn't stink. You are going to sweat at WDW in the Summer. Since I am sweaty already, walking and playing in the rain has no effect on me. Lightning is a different story all together though.

The one thing you mention that many fail to realize, is everyone has access to the Deluxe resorts. You can enjoy everything a deluxe has to offer except the room and pool. In most cases, the pool is questionable.

if you stay at the GF and take the bus back from DHS, or the monorail back from epcot, you would get soaked walking to your $700 room, unless you're staying in main building club level.

GF Villa guests also will stay dry, due to the covered walkway.

Absolutely. And in the winter, you keep warmer. Generally speaking, I don't find much appeal in going to WDW and staying in a motel.
"Motel" is a bit of an exaggeration.

mo·tel
mōˈtel/
noun
  1. a roadside hotel designed primarily for motorists, typically having the rooms arranged in a low building with parking directly outside.
synonyms: hotel, inn, motor inn, motor court, lodge; More

At best, it is a dolled up motel. Especially the values.
None of those things apply to Disney value or moderate resorts. Roadside? No. Primarily for motorists? No. Low buildings? No more than the Polynesian longhouses. Parking directly outside? If you stretch your definition of "directly."

Agree to disagree. Does it really matter though? The point is: single building resorts like most of the deluxes are nicer in crappy weather.

Oh I definitely agree. My two favorite resorts are DAKL and WL and they're the two most "one giant building" of all WDW resorts. It's definitely a benefit in the rain and I never travel in the summer so the heat is a non-issue.
